Supernovae classes have been defined phenomenologically, based on spectral features and time series data, since the specific details of the physics of the different explosions remain unrevealed. However, the number of these classes is increasing as objects with new features are observed, and the next generation of large-surveys will only bring more variety to our attention. We apply the machine learning technique of multi-label classification to the spectra of supernovae. By measuring the probabilities of specific features or 'tags' in the supernova spectra, we can compress the information from a specific object down to that suitable for a human or database scan, without the need to directly assign to a reductive 'class'. We use logistic regression to assign tag probabilities, and then a feed-forward neural network to filter the objects into the standard set of classes, based solely on the tag probabilities. We present STag, a software package that can compute these tag probabilities and make spectral classifications.

The time implicit point SGS scheme is applied to compute hypersonic viscous flows in thermochemical nonequilibrium. The performance of the point SGS scheme is then compared with those of the line SGS and the LU-SGS schemes. Comparison of convergence histories with the effect of multiple forward and backward sweeps are made for the flow over a 2D cylinder experimentally studied by Hornung and the flow over a hemisphere at conditions corresponding to the peak heating condition during the reentry flight of an SSTO vehicle. Results indicate that the point SGS scheme with multiple sweeps is as robust and efficient as the line SGS scheme. For the point SGS and the LU-SGS scheme, the rate of improvement in convergence is largest with two sweep cycles. However, for the line SGS scheme, it is found that more than one sweep cycle deteriorates the convergence rate.
This paper includes AC servo motor speed control usig the predictive control strategy. Generally, AC servo motor control should have the fast response characteristics. For the issue, sliding mode control and PID control have been applied. However, the former has the speed ripple response due to the chattering and the latter requires the many trial efforts. Originally, the predictive control which has been used in process control area does not need the priori knowledge for the application system and it is easy to compute the optimal gain with the prediction. In this paper, the TMS320C31 DSP pocessor is used for AC motor control with fst dynamics and the tuning guid-line for the parameters of the predictive control algorithm is given in order to reduce the computation load. Also, the actuator saturationis implemented uisngthe QP(Quadratic Programming) method and the transient response is improved by the identified intertia coefficient when AC motor is drived at forward/reverse rotation.
A force-reflecting hand controller can provide the kinesthetic information obtained from a slave manipulator to the operator of a teleoperation system. The goal is to construct a compact hand controller that can provide large workspace and good force-reflecting capability. This paper presents the design and the analysis of a 6-degree-of-freedom force-reflecting hand controller using fivebar parallel mechanism. The forward kinematics of the fivebar parallel mechanism has been calculated in real-time using three pin-joint sensors in addition to six actuator position sensors. A force decomposition approach is used to compute the Jacobian. To evaluate the characteristics of the fivebar parallel mechanism, it has been compared with the other three parallel mechanisms in terms with workspace and manipulability measure. The hand controller using the fivebar parallel mechanism has been constructed and tested to verify the feasibility of the design concept.
The purpose of the present research is to develop an efficient numerical method for the calculation of potential flow and predict the wave-making resistance for the application to ship design of tuna purse seiner. The paper deals with the numerical calculation of potential flow around the series 60 with forward velocity by the new slender ship theory. This new slender ship theory is based on the asymptotic expression of the Kelvin-source, distributed over the small matrix at each transverse section so as to satisfy the approximate hull boundary condition due to the assumption of slender body. Some numerical results for series 60, C sub(b) =0.6, hull are presented in this paper. The wave pattern and wave resistance are computed at two Froude numbers, 0.267 and 0.304. These results are better than those of Michell's thin ship theory in comparison with measured results. However, it costs much time to compute not only wave resistance but also wave pattern over some range of Froude numbers. More improvements are strongly desired in the numerical procedure.
Multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) displacement measurement Is needed In many application fields: precision machine control, precision assembly, vibration analysis, and so on. This paper presents a new MDOF displacement measurement method using a laser diode (LD), two position-sensitive detectors (PSDs), and a conventional diffraction grating. It utilizes typical features of a diffraction grating to obtain the information of MDOF displacement. MDOF displacement is calculated from the independent coordinate values of the diffracted ray spots on the PSDs. Forward and inverse kinematic problems were solved to compute the MDOF displacement of a rigid body. Experimental results show maximum absolute errors of less than ${\pm}10$ micrometers in translation and ${\pm}30$ arcsecs in rotation.

The analysis and design of complex structures like sandwich-panel elements are difficult; the use of finite element method for the analysis is complicated and time consuming when non-linear effects are considered. On the other hand, artificial neural network (ANN) models can capture the non-linear effects and its application requires lesser computational demand. Two ANN models were trained, tested and validated to compute the force for a given displacement of a sandwich-type roof element; 2555 force and element deformation pairs were used for training the ANN models. For the models trained without considering the damping effect, there were two values in the input layer: maximum displacement and current displacement, and for the model considering damping, displacement from the previous step was used as an additional input. Totally, 400 ANN models were trained. Results show that there is a good agreement between the experimental and simulated data, and the models showed a good performance with a mean square error value of 4548.85. Both the ANN models could simulate the inelastic behaviour, loss of rigidity, and evolution of permanent displacements. The models could also interpolate and extrapolate, which enables them to be used as an analysis and design tool for such complex elements.
This work deals with the assessment of the burnup capabilities of the Serpent Monte Carlo code to predict spent nuclear fuel (SNF) isotopic concentrations for low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel at different burnup levels up to 47 MWd/kgU. The irradiation of six UO2 experimental samples in three different VVER-1000 reactor units has been simulated and the predicted concentrations of actinides up to 244Cm have been compared with the corresponding measured values. The results show a global good agreement between calculated and experimental concentrations, in several cases within the margins of the nuclear data uncertainties and in a few cases even within the reported experimental uncertainties. The differences in the performances of the JEFF3.1.1, ENDF/B-VII.1 and ENDF/B-VIII.0 nuclear data libraries (NDLs) have also been assessed and the use of the newly released ENDF/B-VIII.0 library has shown an increased accuracy in the prediction of the C/E's for some of the actinides considered, particularly for the plutonium isotopes. This work represents a step forward towards the validation of advanced simulation tools against post irradiation experimental data and the obtained results provide an evidence of the capabilities of the Serpent Monte-Carlo code with the associated modern NDLs to accurately compute SNF nuclide inventory concentrations for VVER-1000 type reactors.

We have developed a novel digital feedback predistortion(DFBPD) linearization based on RF feedback PD for the wide bandwidth modulated signals. The wideband PD operation is carried out by combining the DFBPD and memory lookup table(LUT). To experimentally demonstrate the linearization performance of the proposed PD technique for wideband signal, a class-AB amplifier using an LDMOSFET MRF6S23140 with 140-W peak envelope power is employed at 2.345 GHz. For a forward-link 2FA wideband code-division multiple-access signal with 10 MHz carrier spacing, the proposed DFBPD with memory LUT delivers the adjacent channel leakage ratio at an 10 MHz offset of -56.8 dBc, while those of the amplifier with and without DFBPD are -43.2 dBc and -41.9 dBc, respectively, at an average output power of 40 dBm. The experimental result shows that the new DFBPD with memory LUT provides a good linearization performance for the signal with wide bandwidth.
