  • There are many numerical methods to solve large-scale fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problems. However, these methods require very fine mesh to achieve the reasonable numerical accuracy and stability due to the concentrated and volatile hydrodynamic pressure caused by the liquid sloshing. Consequently, the numerical analysis targeting for the long-period time response with the desired numerical accuracy Is very highly time-consuming. The aim of this paper is to suggest a new method to analyze the hydroelastic behavior of the LNGC containment by using the global-local numerical approach. The reliability of the presented method is firstly examined, and then its efficiency is demonstrated by presenting that the long-period local responses of the LNGC containment are obtained with relatively short CPU time.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear finite element analysis procedure for the seismic performance assessment of deep beam-and-interior column joints. A computer program, named RCAHEST(Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Horizontal cyclic load tests were conducted to estimate the strength, ductility, and behavioral characteristics of deep beam-and-interior column joints. Experimental parameters are axial forces and amount of transverse reinforcement. The proposed numerical method for the seismic performance assessment of deep beam-and-interior column joints is verified by comparison of its results with reliable experimental results.

  • This paper introduces a numerical analysis method for reinforced-concrete(RC) members exposed to fire and proposes considerations in designing RC structures on the basis of the comparison between numerical results and design codes. The proposed analysis method consists of two procedures of the transient heat transfer analysis and the non-linear structural analysis. To exactly evaluate the structural behavior under fire, two material models are considered in this paper. One is "Under-Fire" condition for the material properties at the high temperature and the other one is "After-Cooling" condition for the material properties after cooling down to air temperature. The proposed method is validated through the correlation study between experimental data and numerical results. In advance, the obtained results show that the material properties which are fittable to the corresponding temperature must be taken into account for an accurate prediction of the ultimate resisting capacity of RC members. Finally, comparison of the numerical results with the design code of EN1992-1-2 also shows that the design code needs to be revised to reserve the safety of the fire-damaged structural member.

  • A numerical analysis of thermal stratification in the upper plenum of the MONJU fast breeder reactor was performed. Calculations were performed for a 1/6 simplified model of the MONJU reactor using the commercial code, CFX-13. To better resolve the geometrically complex upper core structure of the MONJU reactor, the porous media approach was adopted for the simulation. First, a steady state solution was obtained and the transient solutions were then obtained for the turbine trip test conducted in December 1995. The time dependent inlet conditions for the mass flow rate and temperature were provided by JAEA. Good agreement with the experimental data was observed for steady state solution. The numerical solution of the transient analysis shows the formation of thermal stratification within the upper plenum of the reactor vessel during the turbine trip test. The temporal variations of temperature were predicted accurately by the present method in the initial rapid coastdown period (~300 seconds). However, transient numerical solutions show a faster thermal mixing than that observed in the experiment after the initial coastdown period. A nearly homogenization of the temperature field in the upper plenum is predicted after about 900 seconds, which is a much shorter-term thermal stratification than the experimental data indicates. This discrepancy is due to the shortcoming of the turbulence models available in the CFX-13 code for a natural convection flow with thermal stratification.

  • Aerodynamic analysis was done for a fuselage and wing configuration of a mid-sized aircraft using unsteady 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. Various turbulent models including a transitional SST were used to observe a dynamic stall as well as cruise characteristics. Also, different mesh moving methods were evaluated. Flow hysteresis which causes dynamic stall was investigated through flow field investigations.

The object oriented programming concepts such as object, class, method and inheritance are represented. The static and free vibration analyses for framed structures were satisfactorily performed by this program which consists of TOP, VECTOR, MATRIX, STRU, GUI and other classes. Numerical test shows the validity and capability of the present study which can be expandable to develop a general purpose object oriented finite element analysis program of structures ,res ,

  • For the analysis of Kirchhoff plate bending problems, a new meshless method is implemented. For the satisfaction of the C¹ continuity condition in which the first derivative is treated as another primary variable, Hermite interpolation is enforced on standard reproducing kernel particle method. In order to impose essential boundary conditions on solving C¹ continuity problems, shape function modifications are adopted. Through numerical tests, the characteristics and accuracy of the HRKPM are investigated and compared with the finite element analysis. By this implementation, it is shown that high accuracy is achieved by using HRKPM fur solving Kirchhoff plate bending problems.

  • In this study, we developed an analysis method of plate forming by induction heating and verified the effectiveness of the present method through a series of experiments. The phenomena of the induction heating is a 3D transient problem coupled with electromagnetic, heat transfer, and elastoplastic large deformation analyses. To solve the problem, we suggest a proper model and an integrated system. Using the present analysis model, we can estimate the plate deformation in heating without experiments and simulate the plate bending process of induction heating.

  • A simple numerical modeling technique is proposed for the analysis of framed tube structures with multiple internal tubes. The structures are analysed using a continuum approach in which each tube is individually modelled by a tube beam that accounts for the flexural and shear deformations, as well as the shear lag effects. By simplifying assumptions regarding the form of strain distributions in external and internal tubes, the structural behaviours is reduced to the solution of a single second order linear differential equation. The numerical analysis uses the variational approach on the basis of the minimum potential energy priniciple. Three framed-tube sructures with single, two and three internal tubes are analysed to verify the applicability and reliability of the proposed method.
