The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is to determine a set of feasible vehicle routes, one for each vehicle, such that each customer is visited exactly once and the total distance travelled by the vehicles is minimized. A feasible route is defined as a simple circuit including the depot such that the total demand of the customers in the route does not exceed the vehicle capacity. While there have been significant advances recently in exact solution methodology, the VRP is not a well solved problem. We find most approaches still relying on the branch and bound method. These approaches employ various methodologies to compute a lower bound on the optimal value. We introduce a new modelling approach, termed route-splitting, for the VRP that allows us to address problems whose size is beyond the current computational range of set-partitioning models. The route-splitting model splits each vehicle route into segments, and results in more tractable subproblems. Lifting much of the burden of solving combinatorially hard subproblems, the route-splitting approach puts more weight on the LP master problem, Recent breakthroughs in solving LP problems (Nemhauser, 1994) bode well for our approach. Lower bounds are computed on five symmetric VRPs with up to 199 customers, and eight asymmetric VRPs with up to 70 customers. while it is said that the exact methods developed for asymmetric instances have in general a poor performance when applied to symmetric ones (Toth and Vigo, 2002), the route splitting approach shows a competent performance of 93.5% on average in the symmetric VRPs. For the asymmetric ones, the approach comes up with lower bounds of 97.6% on average. The route-splitting model can deal with asymmetric cost matrices and non-identical vehicles. Given the ability of the route-splitting model to address a wider range of applications and its good performance on asymmetric instances, we find the model promising and valuable for further research.
OWL is an ontology language for the Semantic Web, and suited to modelling the knowledge of a specific domain in the real-world. Ontology also can infer new implicit knowledge from the explicit knowledge. However, the modeled knowledge cannot be complete as the whole of the common-sense of the human cannot be represented totally. Ontology do not concern handling nonmonotonic reasoning to detect incomplete modeling such as the integrity constraints and exceptions. A default rule can handle the exception about a specific class in ontology. Integrity constraint can be clear that restrictions on class define which and how many relationships the instances of that class must hold. In this paper, we propose a practical reasoning system for open and closed-world reasoning that supports a novel hybrid integration of ontology based on open world assumption (OWA) and non-monotonic rule based on closed-world assumption (CWA). The system utilizes a method to solve the problem which occurs when dealing with the incomplete knowledge under the OWA. The method uses the answer set programming (ASP) to find a solution. ASP is a logic-program, which can be seen as the computational embodiment of non-monotonic reasoning, and enables a query based on CWA to knowledge base (KB) of description logic. Our system not only finds practical cases from examples by the Protege, which require non-monotonic reasoning, but also estimates novel reasoning results for the cases based on KB which realizes a transparent integration of rules and ontologies supported by some well-known projects.

The strip method, unified theory and 3-D panel method are commonly used methods for the seakeeping analysis of high-speed vessels. The strip method which is basically 2-dimensional method is known to give incorrect hydrodynamic coefficients and motion responses for the cases of high speed and low frequency region. And the unified theory which uses two dimensional approach in inner domain and slender body theory in outer domain is very complicate in computational modelling. Though the 3-D panel method requires comparatively long computation time, it is believed that the method gives good results without any limitation in ship speed and range of frequency for computation. In the 3-D panel method the source singularity representing translating and pulsating Green function is used and Hoff's method is adopted for the numerical calculation of the Green function. The computation time can be reduced by using the symmetry relationship with respect to longitudinal axis. In this paper the strip method and the 3-D panel method are compared for the seakeeping analysis of a high-speed catamaran. The Compared items are the hydrodynamic coefficients, wave exciting forces, frequency response functions and short-term responses in irregular waves.

A numerical study of a two-layer, stratified flow is investigated, using the implicit finite difference method in one dimension. The results of computational method have been tested and, in case of lock exchange flow, compared with the results of experimental data. The results of model experiments with various interfacial, bottom friction coefficients along with various time weighting factor of numerical scheme and dissipative interface are shown and discussed. Two-layer model experiment has been also carried out to investigate the generation and propagation characteristics of internal tidal wave over the steep bottom topography under stratified condition. The internal wave seems to well radiate through the downstream boundary under the experiments adopting radiation conditions both at two layers and only at upper layer, confirming the applicability of radiational boundary condition in stratified flows. It is also shown that the internal wave through the downstream boundary propagates more actively with increasing thickness of lower layer in the downstream. This implies that the potential tidal energy in the interface will depend upon the thickness of lower layer for the constant thickness of upper layer.

Foward-swept wings are known to possess superior aerodynamic performance compared to the conventional straight wings. However major concerns regarding forward-swept wings include divergence at lower airspeeds which require careful consideration at the design stage. As an endeavor to overcome such drawbacks, aeroelastic tailoring is attempted. In order to find an optimal ply sequence, recursive aeroelastic analyses is conducted and one-dimensional beam analysis coupled with simple aerodynamics is used for the improved computational efficiency and modelling convenience. The analysis used in this paper, DYMORE and analytic formula, both use one-dimensional beam model for the structure. Cross-sectional analysis for multi-cell NACA0015 airfoil section is conducted using VABS and oblique function is used for the sweep angle. Throughout the present aeroelastic tailoring, the maximum divergence speed of 290.2m/s is achieved which is increased by approximately 43% than that for the conventional ply configuration.
The visibility graph is a well-known method for efficient path-finding with the minimum search space modelling the game world. The generalized visibility graph is constructed on the expanded obstacle boundaries to eliminate the "wall-hugging" problem which is a major disadvantage of using the visibility graph. The paths generated by the generalized visibility graph are guaranteed to be near optimal and natural-looking. In this paper we propose the method to apply the generalized visibility graph efficiently for game characters who moves among static obstacles between varying start and goal points. Even though the space is minimal once the generalized visibility graph is constructed, the construction itself is time-consuming in checking the intersection between every two links connecting nodes. The idea is that we build the map for static obstacles first and then incorporate start and goal nodes quickly. The incorporation of start and goal nodes is the part that must be executed repeatedly. Therefore we propose to use the rotational plane-sweep algorithm in the computational geometry for incorporating start and goal nodes efficiently. The simulation result shows that the execution time has been improved by 39%-68% according to running times in the game environment with multiple static obstacles.

Deterioration of reinforced concrete structure caused by chloride ingress is the main issue and regrading this, many studies have been investigated with both experiments and computational modelling. In addition to chloride diffusion, chloride sorption should be considered as a chloride transport mechanism in concrete structure and cracks formed in concrete structures are the main variable to evaluate the performance of the structures. In this study, after making two types of cracks width (0.1 and 0.3 mm) in reinforced concretes, chloride absorption tests were performed. Weight change and colour change using 0.1 AgNO3 solution from the samples were performed to measure chloride ingress. Image processing was also carried out to quantify range of colour change in carck face. From the result, it were confirmed that the amount of chloride absorption increases with exposure time and increasing crack width, and chlorides reached at steel depth within 1 hour. It would be possible that chloride can move through interface bewteen steel and concrete, thereby further study regarding this is required.
The safety related components in the nuclear power plant should be designed to withstand the seismic load. Among these components the integrity of reactor internals under earthquake load is important in stand points of safety and economics, because these are classified to Seismic Class I components. So far the modelling methods of reactor internals have been investigated by many authors. In this paper, the dynamic behaviour of reactor internals of Yong Gwang 1&2 nuclear power plants under SSE(Safe Shutdown Earthquake) load is analyzed by using of the simpled Global Beam Model. For this, as a first step, the characteristic analysis of reactor internal components are performed by using of the finite element code ANSYS. And the Global Beam Model for reactor internals which includes beam elements, nonlinear impact springs which have gaps in upper and lower positions, and hydrodynamical couplings which simulate the fluid-filled cylinders of reactor vessel and core barrel structures is established. And for the exciting external force the response spectrum which is applied to reactor support is converted to the time history input. With this excitation and the model the dynamic behaviour of reactor internals is obtained. As the results, the structural integrity of reactor internal components under seismic excitation is verified and the input for the detailed duel assembly series model could be obtained. And the simplicity and effectiveness of Global Beam Model and the economics of the explicit Runge-Kutta-Gills algorithm in impact problem of high frequency interface components are confirmed.
