  • Stochastic computation is adopted to reduce the silicon area of the multipliers in implementing neural network in VLSI. In addition to this advantage, the stochastic computation has inherent random errors which is required for implementing Boltzmann machine. This random noise is useful for the simulated annealing which is employed to achieve the global minimum for the Boltzmann Machine. In this paper, we propose a method to implement the Boltzmann machine with stochastic computation and discuss the addition problem in stochastic computation and its simulated annealing in detail. According to this analysis Boltzmann machine using stochastic computation is suitable for the pattern recognition/completion problems. We have verified these results through the simulations for XOR, full adder and digit recognition problems, which are typical of the pattern recognition/completion problems.

  • In this letter, we assess the scalability of a path computation flooding (PCF) approach to compute optimal end-to-end inter-domain paths in a path computation element-based multi-domain network. PCF yields a drastically reduced network blocking probability compared to a blind per-domain path computation but introduces significant network control overhead and path computation complexity. In view of this, we introduce and compare an alternative low overhead PCF (LoPCF) solution. From the obtained results, LoPCF leads to similar blocking probabilities to PCF while exhibiting around 50% path computation complexity and network control overhead reduction.

  • Gu-Jang-San-Sul is a book of Chinese ancient mathematics and has had an impact on Korean mathematics. The book is organized into nine chapters and each chapter is composed of problems, answers, and their computation algorithms. The contents reflect the practicality of Chinese mathematics. Especially the first chapter covers the computation of fractions for land surveying. This paper suggests how the computation methodology is used in teaching fractions for primary school students. Five strategies for fractions related to the reduction, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are followed by: 1) developing the ability to apply rules to problems by practicing the computation process according to the given algorithm; 2) developing the communication skill by comparing the differences of various computation algorithms; 3) setting computation problems; 4) understanding the characteristics of terminology in mathematics; and 5) being exposed to new ideas in mathematics.

  • D-class computation requires multiplication of three Boolean matrices for each of all possible triples of $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices and search for equivalent $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices according to a specific equivalence relation. It is easy to see that even multiplying all $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices with themselves shows exponential time complexity and D-Class computation was left an unsolved problem due to its computational complexity. The vector-based multiplication theory shows that the multiplication of three Boolean matrices for each of all possible triples of $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices can be done much more efficiently. However, D-Class computation requires computation of equivalent classes in addition to the efficient multiplication. The paper discusses a theory and an algorithm for efficient D-class computation, and shows execution results of the algorithm.

  • In this paper, efficient implementation of error correction code (ECC) processing circuits based on single error correction and double error detection (SEC-DED) code with check bit pre-computation is proposed for memories. During the write operation of memory, check bit pre-computation eliminates the overall bits computation required to detect a double error, thereby reducing the complexity of the ECC processing circuits. In order to implement the ECC processing circuits using the check bit pre-computation more efficiently, the proper SEC-DED codes are proposed. The H-matrix of the proposed SEC-DED code is the same as that of the odd-weight-column code during the write operation and is designed by replacing 0's with 1's at the last row of the H-matrix of the odd-weight-column code during the read operation. When compared with a conventional implementation utilizing the odd-weight- column code, the implementation based on the proposed SEC-DED code with check bit pre-computation achieves reductions in the number of gates, latency, and power consumption of the ECC processing circuits by up to 9.3%, 18.4%, and 14.1% for 64 data bits in a word.

  • Secure multimedia multicast applications involve group communications where group membership requires secured dynamic key generation and updating operations. Such operations usually consume high computation time and therefore designing a key distribution protocol with reduced computation time is necessary for multicast applications. In this paper, we propose a new key distribution protocol that focuses on two aspects. The first one aims at the reduction of computation complexity by performing lesser numbers of multiplication operations using a ternary-tree approach during key updating. Moreover, it aims to optimize the number of multiplication operations by using the existing Karatsuba divide and conquer approach for fast multiplication. The second aspect aims at reducing the amount of information communicated to the group members during the update operations in the key content. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated based on computation and communication complexity and a comparative performance analysis of various key distribution protocols is provided. Moreover, it has been observed that the proposed algorithm reduces the computation and communication time significantly.

  • Cloud vehicular networks are a promising paradigm to improve vehicular through distributing computation tasks between remote clouds and local vehicular terminals. Software-Defined Network(SDN) can bring advantages to Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) through its ability to provide flexibility and programmability through a logically centralized controlled cluster that has a full comprehension of view of the network. However, as the SDN paradigm is currently studied in vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs), adapting it to work on cloud-based vehicular network requires some changes to address particular computation features such as task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks. There has been initial work on briging SDN concepts to vehicular networks to reduce the latency by using the fog computing technology, but most of these studies do not directly tackle the issue of task computation. This paper proposes a Software-Defined Cloud-based vehicular Network called SDCVN framework. In this framework, we study the effectiveness of task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks with vehicular cloud and roadside edge cloud. Considering the edge cloud service migration due to the vehicle mobility, we present an efficient roadside cloud based controller entity scheme where the tasks are adaptively computed through vehicular cloud mode or roadside computing predictive trajectory decision mode. Simulation results show that our proposal demonstrates a stable and low route setup time in case of installing the forwarding rules of the routing applications because the source node needs to contact the controller once to setup the route.
