  • In this paper, we propose an effective time-of-arrival (TOA)-based localization method with adaptive bias computation in indoor environments. The goal of the localization is to estimate an accurate target's location in wireless localization system. However, in indoor environments, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors block the signal propagation between target device and base station. The NLOS errors have significant effects on ranging between two devices for wireless localization. In TOA-based localization, finding the target's location inside the overlapped area in the TOA-circles is difficult. We present an effective localization method using compensated distance with adaptive bias computation. The proposed method is possible for the target's location to estimate an accurate location in the overlapped area using the measured distances with subtracted adaptive bias. Through localization experiments in indoor environments, estimation error is reduced comparing to the conventional localization methods.

  • This work presents a method to compute the sun position(azimuth and elevation), sunrise and sunset times. Accurate computation of sun position is very important to the precise tracking of the sun for the solar concentrator, which enables the maximum collection of solar energy. Methods to compute the sun position are available in the literature already. However most of them do not have accuracy verification, thus makes hard in selecting the most accurate sun position computation method. We first select the most accurate sun position computation method among the methods presented in the literature by comparing the computed sun position with Korean Almanac of Korea Astronomy Observatory. Then a procedure to compute the sunrise and sunset times is presented. Computed sun position shows $0.02^{\circ},\;0.6^{\circ}$ and one minute differences in azimuth, elevation and sunrise/sunset times respectively compared with Korean Almanac.

  • Internet of Things defines a large number of diverse entities and services which interconnect with each other and individually or cooperatively operate depending on context, conditions and environments, produce a huge personal and sensitive data. In this scenario, the satisfaction of privacy, security and trust objectives plays a critical role in the success of the Internet of Things. Trust here can be considered as a key property to establish trustworthy and seamless connectivity among entities and to guarantee secure services and applications. The aim of this study is to provide a survey on various trust computation strategies and identify future trends in the field. We discuss trust computation methods under several aspects and provide comparison of the approaches based on trust features, performance, advantages, weaknesses and limitations of each strategy. Finally the research discuss on the gap of the trust literature and raise some research directions in trust computation in the Internet of Things.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develope the parallel computation algorithm that enables it to minimize the completion tine of computation execution of the entire subtasks, under the constraints of the series-parallel precedence relation in each subtask. The developed algorithm was applied to the control of a robot manipulator functioned by multi-CPU's and to obtain the minimum time schedule so that real time control may be achieved. The completion time of computation execution was minimized by applying "Variable" Branch and Bound algorithm which was developed In this paper in determining the optimum ordered schedule for each CPU.

  • The increased integration of fuel cells with power electronics, critical loads, and control systems has prompted recent interest in accurate electrical terminal models of the polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell. Advancement in computing technologies, particularly parallel computation techniques and various real-time simulation tools have allowed the prototyping of novel apparatus to be investigated in a virtual system under a wide range of realistic conditions repeatedly, safely, and economically. This paper builds upon both advancements and provides a means of optimized model construction boosting computation speeds for a fuel cell model on a real-time simulator which can be used in a power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) application. Significant improvement in computation time has been achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed model developed on Opal RT's RT-Lab Matlab/Simulink based real-time engineering simulator is verified using experimental results from a Ballard Nexa fuel cell system.

  • In this parer, we present the bubble forming and motion in the micro channel by using the two-dimensional numerical computation and experiment. In the numerical computation, The Lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) and free-energy model is used to treat the interfacial force and deformation of binary fluid system, drawn in to a micro channel and a numerical simulation is carried out by using the parallel computation method. The urn in this investigation is to examine the applicability of LBM to numerical analysis and experimental method of binary fluid separation and motion in the micro channel.

  • Green's relations are five equivalence relations that characterize the elements of a semigroup in terms of the principal ideals. The J relation is one of Green's relations. Although there are known algorithms that can compute Green relations, they are not useful for finding all J relations in the semigroup of all $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices. Its computation requires multiplication of three Boolean matrices for each of all possible triples of $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices. The size of the semigroup of all $n{\times}n$ Boolean matrices grows exponentially as n increases. It is easy to see that it involves exponential time complexity. The computation of J relations over the $5{\times}5$ Boolean matrix is left an unsolved problem. The paper shows theorems that can reduce the computation time, discusses an algorithm for efficient J relation computation whose design reflects those theorems and gives its execution results.

  • In this paper we propose a method, called the range-based cube partitioning (RCP)method for reducing I/O cost of cube computation in OLAP The method improves I/O performance of cube partitioning process by overlapping some computation between partitioning stages. For overlapping the computation, the method partitions the cube based on the ranges of attribute values, not the points of attribute value, Through analysis any experiments, we show the performance of the proposed method with comparison of the previous cube partitioning method.

  • Artificial intelligence has emerged as the core of the 4th industrial revolution, and large amounts of data processing, such as big data technology and rapid data analysis, are inevitable. The most fundamental and universal data interpretation technique is an analysis of information through regression, which is also the basis of machine learning. Ridge regression is a technique of regression that decreases sensitivity to unique or outlier information. The time-consuming calculation portion of the matrix computation, however, basically includes the introduction of an inverse matrix. As the size of the matrix expands, the matrix solution method becomes a major challenge. In this paper, a new algorithm is introduced to enhance the speed of ridge regression estimator calculation through series expansion and computation recycle without adopting an inverse matrix in the calculation process or other factorization methods. In addition, the performances of the proposed algorithm and the existing algorithm were compared according to the matrix size. Overall, excellent speed-up of the proposed algorithm with good accuracy was demonstrated.

  • Emerging mobile edge computing (MEC) can be used in battery-constrained Internet of things (IoT). The execution latency of IoT applications can be improved by offloading computation-intensive tasks to an MEC server. Recently, the popularity of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has increased rapidly, and UAV-based MEC systems are receiving considerable attention. In this paper, we propose a dynamic computation offloading paradigm for UAV-based MEC systems, in which a UAV flies over an urban environment and provides edge services to IoT devices on the ground. Since most IoT devices are energy-constrained, we formulate our problem as a Markov decision process considering the energy level of the battery of each IoT device. We also use model-free Q-learning for time-critical tasks to maximize the system utility. According to our performance study, the proposed scheme can achieve desirable convergence properties and make intelligent offloading decisions.
