  • Science & Technology (S&T) personnel have played a major role to develop our country since S&T is the most important factor to increase national competitiveness in the 21st century. Therefore, it is very essential to increase the welfare of S&T personnel in order to increase national S&T and economic competitiveness. However, the welfare of S&T personnel has not been discussed sufficiently not only in academic research, but also in actual S&T policies. It has caused many. social problems (for example, avoiding fields of S&T of young generation, low social recognition of S&T community and so on). Under this background, this paper aims at investigating how to effectively improve S&T personnel's welfare. For this purpose, we deal with a theoretical review on the welfare of S&T personnel. After that, we will suggest 'Comprehensive Welfare Town for S&T Personnel' as a method of improving the welfare of S&T personnel.

  • Various methods are being used to revise "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)", all of which have both positive and negative aspects. This is why a comprehensive approach is necessary. The revision process up to present has lead to some fruitful results, but with many problems as well. What should be taken into account for accurate revision is that apart from the apparent literal difficulties, there are numerous theories mingling together within the texts. Therefore, excessive fondness towards a particular perspective or clinical experience of an individual should be avoided in order not to commit any grave mistakes.

  • It is the purpose of this study to identify comprehensive fatigue characteristics of pavement concretes considering coarse aggregate types. The types of coarse aggregates considered are limestone, sandstone and granite, which are the most representative stones in Korea. The static strength tests were carried out to check the compressive strength, flexural strength at 7 and 28 days, and split tension strength at 56 day in order to minimize the various effect of strength during the test. The results are follows. The comprehensive fatigue models of pavement concretes were developed considering coarse aggregate types. The developed model showed a good relationship between aggregate types. The fatigue models with coarse aggregate types were shown, respectively. The combined fatigue models was also shown.

  • Comprehensive utilization of tungsten tailings resources not only solves environmental problems but also creates huge economic benefits. The high content of iron impurity in tungsten tailings will have adverse effect on the downstream comprehensive utilization, whether flotation or pickling. In this paper, the Superconducting High Gradient Magnetic Separation(S-HGMS) is used to remove of Fe impurities from tungsten tailings. The optimal experimental parameters are as follows: background magnetic induction intensity is 3.0T, slurry flow velocity is 500ml/min. The Fe removal rate of Fe was 68.8% and the recovery rate was 59.53%.

  • Graphene is the thinnest known materials in the universe and the strongest ever measured. Graphene has emerged as an exotic material of the 21st century and received world-wide attention due to its exceptional charge transport, thermal, optical, mechanical, and adsorptive properties. Recently, graphene and its derivatives are considered promising candidates as adsorbent for $H_2$ storage, $CO_2$ capture, etc. and as the sensors for detecting individual gas molecule. The main purpose of this review is to comprehensive the synthesis method of graphene and to brief the adsorption behaviors of graphene and its derivatives.

  • A comprehensive program for children's leadership improvement by enhancing their self-esteem, empathy, communication competence and emotion regulation utilized core concepts and techniques or the Solution-Focused Model of Chung et al. (2005), Satir's Experiential Model(Chung, 2003), Cognitive-Behavioral Model (Kim, 2002) and problem-solving games (Chung & Kim, 2005). Twenty-six $3^{rd}$, $4^{th}$, and $5^{th}$ graders from public schools in Seoul participated in six 2.5 hour sessions and their mothers participated in two 2.5 hour sessions. All subjects received pre-, post- and follow-up tests. The results showed that children's self-esteem, empathy, communication competence, and emotion regulation increased as a result of this program and the effects lasted for at least three months after the termination of the program.

  • U.S. nuclear regulatory commission(NRC) regulatory guide(RG) 1.20 requires a comprehensive vibration assessment program(CVAP) for use in verifying the structural integrity of reactor vessel internals(RVI) for flow-induced vibrations prior to commercial operation. The CVAP program consist of vibration and fatigue analysis, a vibration measurement program, an inspection program, and a correlation of their results. One of the main purposes of the analysis program is to select measurement locations, however measurement locations can not be determined by only analysis results, therefore we developed selection criteria of measurement locations for advanced power reactor 1400(APR1400) RVI CVAP, It will be used to select measurement locations and instrument types for APR1400 RVI CVAP.

  • The ductility of reinforced concrete bearing walls subjected to high axial loading and moment can be enhanced by improving the deformability of the compression zone or by reducing the neutral axis depth. The current state-of-the-art procedure evaluating the confinement effect prompts a consideration of the spaces between the transverse and longitudinal reinforcing bars, and a provision of tie bars. At the same time, consideration must also be given to the thickness of the walls. However, such considerations indicate that the confinement effect cannot be expected with the current practice of detailing wall ends in Korea. As an alternative, a comprehensive method for dimensioning boundary elements is proposed so that the entire section of a boundary element can stay within the compression zone when the full flexural strength of the wall is developed. In this comprehensive method, the once predominant code approach for determining the compression zone has been advanced by considering the rectangular stress block parameters varying with the extreme compression fiber strain. Moreover, the size of boundary elements can also be determined in relation to the architectural requirement.

  • When the temperature of a structure varies, there is a tendency to produce changes in the shape of the structure. The resulting actions may be of considerable importance in the analysis of the structures having non-prismatic members. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the modeling, analysis and behavior of the non-prismatic members subjected to temperature changes with the aid of finite element modeling. The fixed-end moments and fixed-end forces of such members due to temperature changes were computed through a comprehensive parametric study. It was demonstrated that the conventional methods using frame elements can lead to significant errors, and the deviations can reach to unacceptable levels for these types of structures. The design formulas and the dimensionless design coefficients were proposed based on a comprehensive parametric study using two-dimensional plane-stress finite element models. The fixed-end actions of the non-prismatic members having parabolic and straight haunches due to temperature changes can be determined using the proposed approach without necessitating a detailed finite element model solution. Additionally, the robust results of the finite element analyses allowed examining the sources and magnitudes of the errors in the conventional analysis.

  • An investigation of tunnel linings is performed at two tunnels in the US using complimentary noncontact techniques: air-coupled ground penetrating radar (GPR), and a vehicle-mounted scanning system (SPACETEC) that combines laser, visual, and infrared thermography scanning methods. This paper shows that a combination of such techniques can maximize inspection coverage in a comprehensive and efficient manner. Since ground-truth is typically not available in public tunnel field evaluations, the noncontact techniques used are compared with two reliable in-depth contact nondestructive testing methods: ground-coupled GPR and ultrasonic tomography. The noncontact techniques are used to identify and locate the reinforcement mesh, structural steel ribs, internal layer interfaces, shallow delamination, and tile debonding. It is shown that this combination of methods can be used synergistically to provide tunnel owners with a comprehensive and efficient approach for monitoring tunnel lining conditions.
