A Study on Development of Eco-friendly Wrap using Biodegradable Resin (생분해성 수지를 이용한 환경친화성 랩 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The compounding resin for biodegradable wrap was developed, and its manufacturing process and physical properties were studied. For these purposes, following factors were optimized: the types and amounts of raw resin material, anti-oxidants, and lubricants used. In this work, the stable compounding resin used to make biodegradable wrap was based on poly(butylene adipate-co-butylenesuccinate) (PBAS) and poly(butyleneadipate-co-butylene succinate-co-butyleneterephthalate) (PBAST). The improved properties of resin with an additive were investigated by melting flow index (MFI). From these results, the physical properties of compounding resin, based on PBAST, were more than those of PBAS. For PBAS, the Irganox 1010, 1076 and Irgafos TNPP as the first and second anti-oxidants, respectively, were good. For PBAST, the good first and second anti-oxidants, respectively, were Irganox 1076 and Mark PEP 36. The good lubricants for feeding PBAS and PBAST were glycerol monostearate and palmityl alcohol, respectively. The stability and tensile strength experiment of wrap were also investigated by the elution of heavy metals and universal testing machine (UTM), respectively. The decomposition ratio of developed wrap was increased proportional to the reclaiming time. The degradation ratio of compounding resin sample was about 60% after 40 days.

  • The national competency standards (NCS) is the national standard for standardizing the skills needed to successfully carry out the duties of industrial sites. It consists of competency units and their sub units. Two standards were developed for the manufacturing of Korean rubber products: rubber compounding and rubber product manufacturing. Each standard consists of ten competency units and their elements. Learning modules will be developed in the near future. It is expected that researchers and workers in the Korean rubber industry will utilize these standards.

  • A study of preparing rubber soles and heels was made to improve the quality in their physical properties such as resistance of cut-growth, abrasion resistance and tensile strength. Following results were obtained in the characteristics of rubber compounding: 1. In the reinforcement effect of fillers, it was found that hydrous silcate and carbon black were the best, aluminum and calcium silicate were pretty good, and basic magnesium carbonate was moderate. 2. SBR/BR blend in the ratio of from 85/25 to 100/0 and NBR/BR blend in the ratio of from 60/40 to 20/80 were the most suitable compounding condition.

The Economic Design of VSS $\bar{x}$ Control Chart for Compounding Effect of Double Assignable Causes (두 가지 복합 이상원인 영향이 있는 공정에 대한 VSS$\bar{x}$관리도의 경제적 설계)

  • In statistical process control applications, variable sample size (VSS) $\bar{X}$ chart is often used to detect the assignable cause quickly. However, it is usually assumed that only one assignable cause results in the out-of-control in the process. In this paper, we propose the algorithm to minimize the function of cost per unit time and compare the economic design and the statistical design by use of the value of cost per unit time. We consider double assignable causes to occur with compound in the process and adopt the Markov chain approach to investigate the statistical properties of VSS $\bar{X}$ chart. A procedure that can calculate the control chart's parameters is proposed by the economic design.

Effect of Polymer Wrapping on the Properties of ABS/MWNT Nanocomposites (고분자 래핑(wrapping)에 의한 전처리가 ABS/MWNT 나노복합체의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • ABS/MWNT nanocomposites were prepared by using MWNT wrapped with SAN through melt compounding. Effect of wrapping of MWNT by SAN on the morphology, mechanical and electrical properties of ABS/MWNT were analyzed. It was found that SAN could wrap MWNT effectively indicated by the increased thickness after wrapping, which is presumably due to helical structure of polyacrylonitrile component in a block copolymer of SAN. MWNT was observed to be dispersed more evenly in ABS matrix by SAN wrapping, which resulted in improved tensile properties of the composites. On the other hand, there was little effect on the impact strength and electrical properties of ABS having inherently high impact strength.

Optimization on Organoleptic Properties of Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) Pickles using Response Surface Methodology (반응표면법을 이용한 양송이버섯 피클의 관능적 특성 최적화)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the organoleptic properties of mushroom pickles made at various compounding ratios according to central composite design for optimum organoleptic properties. In this study, various kinds of mushroom pickle were made at different compounding ratios of vinegar, sugar and salt-critical ingredients of the pickle recipe and the products were presented to an expert panel, who graded the subjects in 7 degrees for 5 items: color, flavor, hardness, taste and overall quality. As a result of sensory quality, mushroom pickles with 300g of vinegar, 150g of sugar and 60g of salt achieved the highest grade. Meanwhile, the results of Response Surface Methodology were different from the sensory quality results, showing that the optimum mixing conditions for overall organoleptic properties of mushroom pickle were 279.58g of vinegar, 179.34g of sugar and 59.09g of salt.   • The uniformly dispersed p-Aramid chopped fiber in a variety of rubber was investigated. The cross section and surface properties in a variety of rubber were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), weight, tensile strength, cold resistance measurements. The 1mm p-Aramid chopped fiber better uniformly dispersed than the other p-Aramid chopped fiber. The p-Aramid of lmm chopped fiber showed excellent adhesion in rubber composite because of homogeneous dispersion. Consequently, the best 1mm chopped fiber and rubber improved the strength of the composite.

  • Predicting fatigue life of rubber components is an important issue in design procedure for industrial trucks to assure the durability and reliability. Main considerations in designing rubber components against fatigue failure are the compounding technology, shape design, and manufacturing process. Among them the rubber compounding technology is one of the most critical factor to determine more than 50% of component's quality. This paper presents how to improve the durability and reliability of industrial rubber mount during its design, development and prototype testing. The data presented illustrates explicitly the prediction of reliability growth in the product development cycle. The application of these techniques is a part of the product assurance function that plays an important role in rubber components reliability improvement.
