Solid solution ceramics having various ratios between xPb( $Y_{1}$2/T $a_{1}$2/) $O_3$ and Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_3$were synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction for well sintered specimens, dielectric and piezoelectric prperties were studied as a function of composition. The dielectric constant of PYT-PZT ceramics of 4 mol% PYT was 1,424 at room temperature. The maximum value of electromechanical couping facotr $k_{p}$ of 51% $k_{t}$ of 30% were obtained at the composition of 4 mol% PYT, howerver mechanical quality factor( $Q_{m}$) had a minimum value of 69 at 4 mol% PYT. Also the maximum value of piezoelectric constant of $D_{33}$(310[pC/N]) and $d_{31}$(-131[pC/N]) were obtained at the composition of 4 mol% PYT content.ntent.t.t.t.

Changes in the soil bacterial community of a coniferous forest were analyzed to assess microbial responses to wildfire. Soil samples were collected from three different depths in lightly and severely burned areas, as well as a nearby unburned control area. Direct bacterial counts ranged from $3.3­22.6\times10^8\;cells/(g{\cdot}soil).$ In surface soil, direct bacterial counts of unburned soil exhibited a great degree of fluctuation. Those in lightly burned soil changed less, but no significant variation was observed in the severely burned soil. The fluctuations of direct bacterial count were less in the middle and deep soil lay­ers. The structure of the bacterial community was analyzed via the fluorescent in situ hybridization method. The number of bacteria detected with the eubacteria-targeted probe out of the direct bacterial count varied from $30.3\;to\;84.7\%,$ and these ratios were generally higher in the burned soils than in the unburned control soils. In the surface unburned soil, the ratios of $\alpha,\;\beta\;and\;gamma-proteobacteria,$ Cytoph­aga-Flavobacterium group, and other eubacteria groups to total eubacteria were 9.9, 10.6, 15.5, 9.0, and $55.0\%,$ respectively, and these ratios were relatively stable. The ratios of $\alpha,\;\beta\;and\;gamma-proteobacteria,$ and Cytophaga-Flavobacterium group to total eubacteria increased immediately after the wildfire, and the other eubacterial proportions decreased in the surface and middle layer soils. By way of contrast, the composition of the 5 groups of eubacteria in the subsurface soil exhibited no significant fluctuations dur­ing the entire period. The total bacterial population and bacterial community structure disturbed by wildfire soon began to recover, and original levels seemed to be restored 3 months after the wildfire.

Pond ash produced from Seochun Power Station was quantitatively characterized to manufacture geopolymers with a range of Si/Al compositional ratios. Mix consistency was kept nearly constant for comparing the compressive strengths of geopolymers. The amorphous composition of coal ash was determined using XRF and quantitative X-ray diffraction. Different mix compositions were used in order to achieve Si/Al ratios of 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 in the geopolymer binder. Geopolymers synthesized from coal ash with a Si/Al ratio of 3.0 exhibited the highest compressive strength in this study. It was found that geopolymers activated with aluminate produced different microstructure from that of geopolymers activated with silicate. High silica in alkali activators produced the fine-grained microstructure of geopolymer gel. It was also found that high compressive strength was related to low porosity and a dense, connected microstructure. The outcome of the reported experiment indicates that quantitative formulation method made it possible to choose suitable activators for achieving targeted compositions of geopolymers and to avoid efflorescence.

This study was performed to investigate the changes of amino nitrogen, total amino acids, free amino acids, and color of Korean traditional soy sauce (kan-jang) during the ripening and storage for 12 months and the characteristics of the changes. All of the preparation methods for soy sauce followed the recommendations of the Korea Food Research Institute. The components of soy sauce were analyzed at 0,6, and 12 months. The contents of amino nitrogen of soy sauce were significantly higher than that of soybeans or meju (soybean cakes) at the initial stage of storage (p<0.05), and decreased during the storage. The content of total amino acids of soybean sauce was significantly lower than that of soybeans, and the content of free amino acids was higher than that of soybeans (p<0.05). The contents of total and free amino acids decreased in soy sauce after 12 months of storage (p<0.05). The composition of total and free amino acids and their ratios of soy sauce were changed during the storage. The ratios of free to total amino acids of soybeans, meju, and soy sauce were 0.8％, 17.3％, and 53.1-59.8％, respectively. Glutamic acid, which represents the savory taste, was detected the most abundantly in soy sauce during the storage. The ratios of free to total amino acids of glutamic acid were 42.9-59.5％ in soy sauce. Lightness of Hunter color of soy sauce decreased over time (p<0.05). This study indicates that the ratios of free to total amino acids of soy sauce were much higher than those of soybeans, although its contents of total amino acids were much lower than those of soybeans. This study also indicates that this comes from the preparation and fermentation of meju. It was suspected that the organoleptic characteristics of soy sauce derived from the amino nitrogen, amino acids, and color might be inferior over 1 year of storage time. However, more detailed research should be conducted to interpretate this characteristics more accurately.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of sewage sludge compost amended soils on the growth and accumulation patterns of heavy metals in plant parts of Orchardgrass seedlings, changes in physical properties and chemical composition, and heavy metal residue in soils. Mixture ratios of sewage sludge compost and soil(loam) were 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80 and 0:100(control), respectively. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The physical properties and chemical compostion of soils were improved by increase in mixture ratios of sewage sludge compost. 2. The biological yield of Orchardgrass seedlings was increased with mixture ratios of sewage sludge compost. 3. The dry weight of shoot(SH) was increased with both of yield components(NT and WT) and biological yield of Orchardgrass seedlings. 4. The total nitrogen concentrations(TN) of plants was increased with quadratically up to the biological yield of 100% mixture ratio of sewage sludge compost. 5. Lead(Pb) concentration of soil in over the 60% mixture ratios of sewage sludge compost were in excess of limiting level(50ppm) of organic fertilizers.

This experiment was carried out to the effects of population density and C/N ratios of feed on the growth, reproductive effciency and cast producation of the earthworm(Eisenia foetida). The population densities of 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 individuals of the earthworm fed with different C/N ratios of 25, 35, 45 and 55 cow manures were studied in rearing box($6,400cm^3$), and at the fertility stage during a period of 60 days. The results were summarized as follows; The survial rate(SR), increasing rate(IR), reproductive efficiency(RE) and cast production of the earthworms showed highest values in C/N ratio of 25. These results may indicate that C/N ratio of 25 is a very favourable feed for the growth of the earthworms. The survial rate(SR) indicated significant positive correlation with reproductive efficiency(RE) in different C/N ratios of feeds. The survial rate(SR) showed highest values in population densities of $50{\sim}100$ worms/$6,400cm^3(64.0{\sim}128.0cm^3/worm$). On the contrary, increasing rate(IR) tended to decreased with the increased population densities. The survival rate(SR) indicated significant negative correlation with reproductive efficiency(RE) in different population densities of the earthworms. The cast production estimated were $31.6mg{\sim}67.4mg/day/worm$ grown in optimum population densities($50{\sim}100\;worms/6,400cm^3$). The earthworm casting are an excellent soil conditioning material or organic fertilizer sources with a high chemical composition and their physical properties.

This study was carried out to investigate the influences of dietary levels, ratios and sources of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on the growth and fatty acid compositions of juvenile olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus. Sixteen diets containing five levels of EPA (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 4.0%), five levels of DHA (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% and 4.0%), three ratios of EPA/DHA (75/25, 50/50 and 25/75), two levels of squid liver oil (5% and 10%) and a control diet containing 5% soybean oil were hand-fed to triplicate groups of fish (average weight, $9.7{\pm}0.3g$) for 8 weeks. Survival, specific growth rate, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio of fish were not affected by dietary EPA and DHA levels or ratios. Also, the dietary treatment had no significant effect on the lipid and protein contents of muscle and whole body of fish. A corresponding increase in the EPA and DHA contents of fish occurred with increasing EPA and DHA levels in their diets. Our results suggest that juvenile olive flounder require a dietary EPA level of approximately 0.32% in the presence of 0.74% DHA for suitable survival and growth, and that EPA and DHA levels in fish muscle can increase to as much as 32% and 53%, respectively, of the total fatty acid content.

The microstructure and Cu diffusion barrier property of Ta-Si-N films for various Si and N compositions were studied. Ta-Si-N films of a wide range of compositions (Si: 0~30 at.%, N: 0~55 at.%) were deposited by DC magnetron reactive sputtering of Ta and Si targets. Deposition rates of Ta and Si films as a function of DC target current density for various $N_2/(Ar+N_2)$ flow rate ratios were investigated. The composition of Ta-Si-N films was examined by wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (WDS). The variation of the microstructure of Ta-Si-N films with Si and N composition was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The degree of crystallinity of Ta-Si-N films decreased with increasing Si and N composition. The Cu diffusion barrier property of Ta-Si-N films with more than sixty compositions was investigated. The Cu(100 nm)/Ta-Si-N(30 nm)/Si structure was used to investigate the Cu diffusion barrier property of Ta-Si-N films. The microstructure of all Cu/Ta-Si-N/Si structures after heat treatment for 1 hour at various temperatures was examined by XRD. A contour map that shows the diffusion barrier failure temperature for Cu as a function of Si and N composition was completed. At Si compositions ranging from 0 to 15 at.%, the Cu diffusion barrier property was best when the composition ratio of Ta + Si and N was almost identical.

This study was performed to investigate the serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition in middle-aged men and the influence of cardiovscular risk factors on them. Data for dietary intake, anthropometry , blood pressure, and general environmental factors were obtained and their relationship to serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition were analyzed in 303 healthy male subjects with a mean age of 43.8$\pm$6.4 years from June 1 to 22 , 1995. The prevalence of obesity was 26.7% by BMI and 11.2% by WHR criteria . The percentage of hypertensive subjects were 13.5% and 22.4% by systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respectively. Retinol, calcium , and roboflavin intakes were lower than the RDA for Koreans. The ratio of carbohydrate intake to total calories of the subjects was 70%. Ratios of P/M and n-6/n-3 were 1.02/1.05/1.00 and 11.1/1, respectively. The percentage of subjects who had serum TG, TC, LDL-C leves beyond the normal range were 19.5% , 13.5% and 8.6% respectively. Palmitic comprised 26.4% of serum total fatty acids, linoleic acid 19.4% and oleic acid 16.4. The waist circumference and ration of carbohydrate intake were related positively to TG level. Serum cholesterol level had positive relations with waist circumference, DBP, sugar intake, and income. There were positive relationships between SFA and bone fishes and vegetable oil intakes, MUFA and DBP while a negative a negative relationship was observed between PUFA and animal fat intake. Serum n-6 fatty acid was related negatively to carbohydrate intake and hot taste preference. N-3 fatty acid was related positively to fish intake and negatively to egg intake. These results suggest that to maintain adequate serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition, sugar, animal fat, and carbohydrate intakes have to be reduced, while consumption of vegetable oil and fish must be increased. It is also essential to control abdominal fat accumulation and blood pressure.

Metaloganic chemical vapor deposition, also known as metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy has become one of the main techniques for growing thin, high purity films for compound semiconductors such as GaAs, InP, and InGaAsP. In this study, the distribution of growth rate and composition of InGaAsP, InGaP, and InGaAs films are studied using computational method. The influences of process parameters such as pressure, temperature and precursors' partial pressure on the growth rate and composition distributions are analyzed. The film growth rate is increased in the upstream part according to the increase of temperature but not in the downstream part. The Ga composition in InGaAsP film shows an asymptotic behavior for temperature variation but As composition varies significantly within the temperature range considered in the present study. The overall film growth rates of InGaP, InGaAs and InGaAsP are decreased with increasing the Ga/In ratios of the source gases. Pressure variation does not seem to be a significant parameter to the film growth. Film growth characteristics of tertiary films such as InGaP and InGaAs show similar trends to the quaternary film, InGaAsP.
