  • Hydroelastic deformation of pontoon type floating structure in waves is critical in structural design. Therefore, it is necessary to develop additional technology that make to dissipate the wave energy as the submerged horizontal plate. In this study, we investigate the characteristics of hydrodynamic interaction effect by the submerged plate affecting to the radiation forces on a pontoon type floating structure using numerical analysis. We have developed the numerical method based on the composite grid system that consists of moving and fixed grid to compute the radiation forces due to the heaving motion of pontoon type floating structure and submerged plate. The numerical simulations based on the finite difference method are carried out to solve the fully nonlinear free surface involving the breaking waves and compared with the experimental data to confirm the reliability of the numerical method. Then, we discuss the interaction effects on the hydrodynamic forces that could influence on the hydroelastic response of floating structure.

  • There are many studies that use structure health monitoring to reduce maintenance costs for aircraft and to increase aircraft utilization. Many studies on FBG sensors are also being conducted. However, if the FBG sensor is installed inside the composite, voids will occur between the layers of the composite, resulting in signal split problem. In addition, the FBG sensor is not affected by electromagnetic waves, but will produce electromagnetic noise caused by electronic equipment during post-processing. In this paper, to reduce the error caused by these noises, the stationary wavelet transform, which has the characteristics of movement immutability and is efficient in nonlinear signal analysis, is presented. And in the above situation, we found that noise rejection performance of stationary wavelet transform was better compared with the wavelet packet transform.

  • An INS is a composite navigation system providing "added value" so defined if work stations provide Multi-Function Displays(MFDs) integrating information and functions for navigational tasks. Even though the minimum requirements for an INS are defined by IMO performance standards, a generic list of the devices and functions that constitute an INS does not exist, so the configuration of the INS is different for each manufacturer, and guidelines based on users' perspectives are also insufficient. This study was conducted to enhance the usability of the INS by analyzing the information required by users according to the ship's operating status and tasks and effectively structuring it in the MFD of the INS. By analyzing INS-related international standards and manufacturers' component equipment lists, mandatory navigation information was selected and card sorting tests were conducted on ship operators with experience in using MFDs to group the information required for each INS task. The results of the study can serve as a basic guideline for manufacturers to structure information based on users' experience when designing products.

  • One of the most significant errors in the pseudo-range measurement performance of GNSSes (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) is their multipath error for high-precision applications. Several schemes to mitigate this error have been studied. Most of them, however, have been focused on the GPS (Global Positioning System) L1 C/A (Coarse/Acquisition) signal that was designed in the 1970s and is still being used for civil navigation. Recently, several modernized signals that were especially conceived to more significantly mitigate multipath errors have been introduced, such as Time Multiplexed and Composite Binary Offset Carrier (TMBOC and CBOC, respectively) signals. Despite this advantage, however, a problem remains with the use of TMBOC and CBOC modulations: the ambiguity of BOC (Binary Offset Carrier)-modulated signal tracking. In this paper, a novel unambiguous multipath error mitigation scheme for these modernized signals is proposed. The proposed scheme has the same complexity as HRCs (High Resolution Correlators) but with low ambiguity. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme outperformed or performed at par with the HRC in terms of their multipath error envelopes and running averages in the static and statistical channel models. The ranging error derived by the mean multipath error of the proposed scheme was below 1.8 meters in an urban area in the statistical channel model.

  • Information systems for application areas like office automation, customer service or computer aided manufacturing are usually highly interactive and deal with complex document structures composed of multiple media formats. For the realization of these systems, nonstandard database systems, which we call document databases, need to handle different types of coarse-and fine-grained document objects(like full-text documents, graphics and images), hierarchical and non-hierarchical relationships between objects(like composition-links and cross-references using hypertext structures) and document attributes of different types such as formatting/presentation information and access control. In this paper, we present the underlying data model for document databases based on descriptive markup languages that provide mechanisms for specifying the logical structure(or schema) of individual documents stored in the database. We then describe extensions to the data model for supporting notion of composite structures("join" operators for documents) --composition and hyperlinking mechanisms for representing compound documents and inter-linked documents as unique entites separate from their components. Furthermore, due to the interactive nature of the application domains, the database system in conjunction with clients(or browsers) has to support visual navigation and graphical query mechanisms. We describe the functionality of a new user interface paradigm called HyBrow for meeting the above mentioned requirements. The underlying implementation strategy is also discussed.discussed.

  • Binary offset carrier (BOC) signal synchronization is based on the correlation between the received and locally generated BOC signals. Thus, the multiple side-peaks in BOC autocorrelation are one of the main error sources in synchronizing BOC signals. Recently, new correlation functions with no side-peak were proposed for sine and cosine phased BOC signal synchronization, respectively, by the authors [3]. In this paper, we propose a new correlation function with no side-peak for composite BOC (CBOC) signals by using the similar approach to that in the previous work.

  • Since 2000, the authors have been developing remote radar network system to observe the vessel traffic in Tokyo Bay. In December 2002, the first operational remote radar station was set at the National Defense Academy in Yokosuka, and vessel traffic observation was started. However, it was impossible to perform accurate observation in the northern part of Tokyo Bay by this Yokosuka radar station only. In September 2003, the second remote radar station and AIS receiving station were installed at Higashi Ogishima in Kawasaki. This second radar enabled us to carry out accurate observation in that area. Both radars can be remotely controlled from the monitoring station in Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. On September 30 and October 1,2003, the vessel traffic observation was carried out using both radars. Combining radar images observed by both radars, the ships' tracks were taken and the dangerous ships were extracted by using SJ value and Bumper Model. The time changes of dangerous ship density in some areas in Tokyo Bay and utilization ratio of the traffic routes were also investigated. In addition, analyzing the AIS date received at Kawasaki station, the positions and speed vectors of the ships equipped with AIS were shown.

  • This research is intended to suggest some reference materials for the future planning of floating hotel, by reviewing the concept of floating hotel and analyzing the realized and planned ones through the search of related documents and homepages. Floating hotel can be defined as a building for living/recreation/work/entertainment with floating system on water, but without navigation tool. In terms of sequence, the River Kawi Jungle Rafts Resort was built in 1976, Four Seasons Hotel in 1988, and Salt & Sill in 2008. Floating hotels are various in scale(height) and size(room numbers), and have basic, cultural, health & marina facilities. Architectural characteristics of sample facilities can be summarized as self-supporting of the facilities, environmentally friendly architectural planning, utilization of renewable energy, introduction of new plastic composite material, and provision of same view from all bedrooms by rotating the building.

  • In this paper, a band pass filter with a rejection band is proposed for UWB(Ultra Wide Band) communication system. First, low pass filter accessed cut off frequency of 10.2 GHz was designed using structure stepped impedance. And high pass filter accessed cut of frequency of 3.2 GHz was designed using parallel short-stub. There was implemented composite connection of designed low pass filter and high pass filter. The relative dielectric constant, the height, the loss tangent of the PCB substrate were ${\varepsilon}_r$=2.2, h=0.508 mm and loss tangent = 0.0009 respectively. The fabricated band pass filter shows a compact size of 3 cm. The fabricated band pass filter was characterized using 37169A VNA(Vector Network Analyzer). And measured result were obtained 7.5 GHz of bandwidth and -10 dB of return loss and -3 dB of insertion loss from pass band. The result of the research can be used for the UWB communications and MIC/MMIC, RFIC system.

  • Complex materials are widely used in aviation industries where lightweighting is essential because they have lighter properties than metals. However, composite materials can cause defects such as internal void formation, poor adhesive mixing, and non-adhesive parts during the production process, and there is a risk of micro-cracking and interlayer separation due to low energy impact. Therefore, a structural damage test is essential. As a result, structural integrity monitoring using FBG is drawing attention. Compared to conventional electrical sensors, FBG has the advantage of being more corrosion-resistant and multiplexed without being affected by electrical noise. However, interloggers measuring FBG are expensive and have a large disadvantage because they are made on the premise of measuring large structures. In this paper, low-cost interloggers were designed for use in unmanned or small aircraft using optical switche, WDM filter, and LTFs, and compared to conventional high-priced interrogator.
