옹벽 시설물의 객관적인 상태평가 기준정립 (The Standard Thesis of Objectivity Condition Evaluation for Infrastructure(Retaining Walls))

  • Recently the problems related to the failure of the retaining wall structure has become great concern since the damage to the properties and human losses have occurred in the rainy season. However, a detail guideline on safety inspection and appropriate diagnosis on the retaining wall structure have not yet proposed and therefore, the inspection process and results are mainly dependant upon the engineers. The objective of this study is to propose objective and quantitative evaluation method for the condition based on the damage shapes and material types. In this purpose, composing materials of retaining wall are divided Into concrete, gabion, stone and reinforced earth, and then the evaluation items and method are suggested on the basis of the materials and structural characteristics of the retaining wall.

가변 임계값을 갖는 JPEG 영상의 양자화 방법 (JPEG Image Quantization Method with Variable Thresholds)

  • In this paper, VTQM(Variable Threshold Quantization Method) is proposed, which enhances PSNR by composing the advantages of round-off and truncation quantization methods. From vast experiments, PSNR's of JPEG images with the method are compared with that of standard JPEG methods. At the boundary which affects the compression ratio, VTQM quantizes with a new threshold to reduce the length of compressed data; otherwise, VTQM employs the round-off quantization method to preserve the original image information. As a result, VTQM reduces bit rate while preserving the image quanity. The experimental results show that VTQM enhances PSNR by 0.2-0.3dB., 0.4-0.5dB, with the same bit rate than those of the traditional truncation and round-off quantization methods, respectively.

  • Recently, the distributed processing system for big data has been actively investigated owing to the development of high speed network and storage technologies. In addition, virtual system that can provide efficient use of system resources through the consolidation of servers has been increasingly recognized. But, when we configure distributed processing system for big data in virtual machine environments, many problems occur. In this paper, we did an experiment on the optimization of I/O bandwidth according to the creation and placement of VMs and tasks with composing Hadoop cluster in virtual environments and evaluated the results of an experiment. These results conducted by this paper will be used in the study on the development of Hadoop Scheduler supporting I/O bandwidth balancing in virtual environments.

Ruminal and Intestinal Digestibility of Some Tropical Legume Forages

  • Two experiments were conducted to examine the degradation rates of 4 tropical legume forages in rumen and intestine of Kedah-Kelantan (KK) cattle. Three KK cattle, averaging $173{\pm}17.15kg$ each fitted with a permanent ruminal and a T-shaped duodenal cannulae were used. The cattle were fed a maintenance diet (1% DM of their body weight) composing of 60% oil palm frond (OPF) pellet and 40% of a legume mixture of Arachis pintoi (AP) and Leucaena throughout the study. The overall DM and CP degradabilities in the rumen for Gliricidia sepium (GS) and AP were significantly higher than those for Leucaena leucocephala-Bahru (LB) and Leucaena leucocephala-Rendang (LR). This implies that LB and LR would have higher dietary protein flows into the intestine for the more efficient enzymatic digestion. However, the results of the present study suggested only limited proportions of the ruminal undegraded protein in the Leucaenas were digested in the intestine.

  • This paper deals with the problem of accurately tracking a single target moving through UWSNs (Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks) by employing underwater acoustic sensors. This paper addresses the issues of estimating the states of the target, and improving energy efficiency by applying a Kalman filter in a distributed architecture. Each underwater wireless sensor nodes composing the UWSNs is battery-powered, so the energy conservation problem is a critical issue. This paper provides an algorithm which increases the energy efficiency of each sensor node through WuS (Waked-up/Sleeping) and VM (Valid Measurement) selecting schemes. Simulation results illustrate the performance of the distributed tracking filter.

  • An exploration for an intelligence paradigm has been delineated. Artificial intelligence and artificial life paradigms seem to fail to show the whole picture of human intelligence. We may understand the human intelligence better by adding the emotional part of human intelligence to the intellectual part of human intelligence. Emotional intelligence is investigated in terms of composing machine as a modern abstract art. Various algorithmic composition and performance concepts are currently being investigated and implemented. Intelligent mapping algorithms restructure the traditional predetermined composition algorithms. Music based on fractals and neural networks is being composed. Also, emotional intelligence and aesthetic aspects of Korean traditional music are investigated in terms of fractal relationship. As a result, this exploration will greatly broaden the potentials of the intelligence research. The exploration of art in the view of intelligence, information and structure will restore the balanced sense, of art and science which seeks happiness in life. The investigations of emotional intelligence will establish the foundations of intelligence, information and control technologies.

New Interactive TV Service Model based on the MPEG-4 System

  • In this paper, a new interactive TV service model is proposed. The MPEG-4 system is specified for composing and managing various object streams including user interactions. The data broadcasting model supporting user interactions is designed using MPEG-4 system in our proposal. We evaluate possibility of proposed service model using simulation player. This player supports MPEG-2 TS which contains MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio streams as a main service and MPEC-4 system data as interactive services as well as user specific EPG information, and XML data, etc as supplemetary services. The player also supports a multi-channel environment. The synchronization between audio and visual data is achieved by DTS and PTS in TS.

  • This paper presents a design of the fuzzy decision maker which infers set value for fuel rate in the rotary kiln of making CaO. The fuzzy decision maker proposed are divided into two groups whose functions are different each other. The one operates when production demand is constant. The other deals with the status of varying production demand. We have chosen several variables used for composing condition and action part by investigating ingerent features of the rotary kiln and skilled operators`manual method of inferring fuel rate. Membership function of each variable was designed by analyzing experimental data and field data collected during two months. On-line operation with fuzzy rules suggested was done safely like human operators' action.

  • This paper implemented 2.14GHz band Adaptive Hybrid Doherty (AHD) amplifier, as well as, wished to improve the high power characteristics and efficiency by composing bias adjustment circuit with LDMOS. Finally, through CAE, confirmed that AHD amplifier have superior performance than hybrid balanced amplifier. Superior characteristics of AHD amplifier is expected to affect immensely in amplifier field hereafter.

  • The main factors of determining the Control Line of the Control Chart can be classified as follows: 1) sample size (n), 2) the factor that determines the spread of Control Limits (B), (3) sampling frequency (h). The determination of these factors can be explained according to the extent that occurrences of assignable cause should be detected. The purpose of this paper are two: one is for composing a model of which use should be designated for economic decision on the size of these factors leading to the Control Line of the Control Chart, the other is about what influence increasing or decreasing condition, according to changeability of the size of these factors, of expect cost can have on the economy when the Control Chart is used.
