  • The effects of activated-carbon (AC) packing length on the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) performance was investigated for the hydrogen separation from the multicomponent mixture gas. Linear driving force model was used to describe mass transfer between two phase and coupled Langmuir isotherm was used for each component as a nonlinear adsorption isotherm. When two adsorbents with a different adsorption capacity were packed consecutively in one bed, it is very important to determine the packing ratio of zeolite to activated carbon affecting the purity and recovery of the product. The activated carbon packing length in adsorption tower of 120 cm was determinated by the ending point of $CO_2$ contration. The optimum length of an activated carbon layer was 65 cm for production of high-purity hydrogen.

  • In this paper, 3-D fame design using second-orders plastic-hinge analysis accounting for lateral torsional buckling is developed. This analysis accounts for material and geometric nonlinearities of the structural system and its component members. Moreover, the problem associated with conventional second-order plastic-hinge analyses, which do not consider the degradation of the flexural strength caused by lateral torsional buckling, is overcome. Efficient ways of assessing steel frame behavior including gradual yielding associated with residual stresses and flexure, second-order effect, and geometric imperfections are presented. In this study, a model consisting of the unbraced length and cross-section shape is used to account for lateral torsional buckling. The proposed analysis is verified by the comparison of the LRFD results. A case studs shows that lateral torsional buckling is a very crucial element to be considered in second-order plastic-hinge analysis. The proposed analysis is shown to be an efficient reliable tool ready to be implemented into design practice.

  • Unlike conventional researches, we are able to i) compare the fuzzy logic based BBA with non-fuzzy BBA for verifying the effective performance of the proposed fuzzy logic application ii) dynamically respond to the intrusion using BBA whereas the previous IDS was responding statically and iii) expect that this would be a cornerstone for more practical application researches (analyzing vulnerability and examining countermeasures, etc.) of security simulation. Several simulation tests performed on the targer network will illustrate our techniques. And this paper applies fuzzy logic to reduce the false negative that is one of the main problems of IDS. Intrusion detection is complicated decision-making process, which generally involves enormous factors about the monitored system. Fuzzy evaluation component model, which is a decision agent in the distributed IDS, can consider various factors based on fuzzy logic when an intrusion behavior is detected. The performance obtained from the coordination of intrusion detection agent with fuzzy logic is compared against the corresponding non fuzzy type intrusion detection agent. The results of these comparisons allow us to evaluate a relevant improvement on the fuzzy logic based BBA.

  • These day morden cities have serious climatic problems due to enviornmental load caused by excessive development of urbanization. As technological improvement to answer to various ecological disasters and climate changes are also called on the field of construction, inter-disciplinary studies linked to the estabilishment of sustainable energy generation systems and enviornmental control is needed in a consilient point of view. This study aims to analyse optimal site conditions for photovoltaic system and green roof planting through solar radiation simulation in a integrated perspective. In so doing, it seeks to proffer basic study for developing a sound use of roof area that is sustainable in environmental and resources aspects. A computer simulation showed that, in the case of total seasonal solar radiation, summer season resulted 312.5kWh in 35% of total annual solar radiation. This season indicated the lowest radiation rate of the year for direct sunlight in 45.8% of total seasonal solar radiation. Due to such solar radiation simulation, at the largest optimal planting area, Glechoma hederacea var. longituba secured $719.16m^2$ of gross roof area.

  • Based on the nonlinear spring model coupled with perturbation method, 2nd harmonic waves generated by oblique incident ultrasound on nonlinear crack interface were calculated and investigated. Reflected and transmitted waves from the interface were determined and analyzed at various angle of incidence for the cracks with different interfacial stiffness in order to estimate the 2nd harmonic generation of incident ultrasound. It was shown in computer simulation that the 2nd harmonic components changed much with the increase of incidence angle in both reflected and transmitted wave, but became very small when the incident angle approached toward 90 degree. It can be concluded that the 2nd harmonic component of reflected wave has a meaningful amplitude as much as the transmitted 2nd harmonic wave from partly closed crack.

  • Obesity is one of the most serious health problems in developed countries. It negatively affects diverse aspects of human wellbeing. Of these, a relationship between obesity and depression is widely recognized but biomarkers for assessment of obesity-associated mood changes in animal obesity models are rarely known. Here we explored the link between obesity and the plasma levels of monoamine neurotransmitters involved in mood control using a sensitive UPLC/MSMS technique in high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity model in male C57BL/6 mice to explore the potential utility of plasma tests for obesity-associated mood change. HFD (60% of total calories, 8 weeks) induced significantly higher weight gains in body (+37.8%) and fat tissue (+306%) in male C57BL/6 mice. Bioanalysis of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in plasma at 8 weeks of HFD revealed that serotonin decreased significantly in the obese mice when compared to normal diet-fed mice ($2.7{\pm}0.6$ vs $4.3{\pm}2.0ng/ml$, N=8). Notably, a negative correlation was found between the levels of serotonin and body weight gains. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA) with the individual levels of neurotransmitters revealed that plasma levels of dopamine and serotonin could apparently differentiate the obese mice from lean ones. Our study demonstrated that blood plasma levels of neurotransmitters can be employed to evaluate the mood changes associated with obesity and more importantly, provided an important clue for understanding of the relationship between obesity and mood disorders.

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at the individual vehicle or platoon level through vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication. It is necessary to develop a traffic flow management scheme to take advantage of the ubiquitous transportation system environments. This paper proposes an algorithm to advise the optimal speed for each vehicle according to the traffic flow condition. The algorithm aims to stabilize the traffic flow by advising the equilibrium speed to the vehicles speeding or crawling under freely flowing condition. And it aims to prevent or at least alleviate the shockwave propagation by advising the optimal speed that should dampen the speed drop under critical flow conditions. This paper builds a simulation testbed and performs some simulation experiments for the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm shows the expected results in terms of travel time reduction and congestion alleviation.

  • Two Korean Rhodeus bittering fishes are known as having a unique reproduction system that the female deposits its egg inside freshwater mussels. Among them, R. ocellatus and R. uyekii show an ecological difference in feeding items and micro-habitat. Through a light microscope, the visual cells of the retina in the two species were investigated to get information between vision and environment related with habitat. The two fishes' eyes are spherical and R. ocellatus has relatively larger eyes. For the two species, the visual cells of the retina consisted of long single cones, short single cones, unequal double cones and rods. In the cones, all show a row mosaic pattern. Although the two species have a different micro-habitat in the wild, the component of the visual cells was very similar to each other.

  • Wins above replacement (WAR) is the most commonly used statistics of the sabermetrics that measure baseball players' abilities. The advantage of a WAR is that it enables to compare performances of players even though they have different roles such as pitcher and hitter. However, WAR is difficult to obtain with common records. Thus, a past studies (Lee and Kim, 2016) suggested the batting ability index to determine the ability of the batter focused on the sabermetrics statistics WAR. In this paper, we selected the best hitter with applying Korea baseball 2016 data based on a proposed model and then observed a total raking of others according to BAI. We are assured that BAI is very excellent statistics through comparing BAI and WAR which is in the spotlight in evaluating performances of players.
