Studies on the Macrocycle mediated Transport in a Bulk Liquid Membrane System of Transition Metal Ions

  • Macrocyclic ligands have been studies as cation carriers in a bulk liquid membrane system. $Cu^{2+}$ has been transported using nitrogen substituted macrocycles as carriers and several transition metal ions($M^{n+}\;=\;Mn^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Pb^{2+}\;and\;Ag^{+}$) have been transported using $DBN_3O_2,\;DBN_2O_2,\;Me_6N_414C4$ and DA18C6 as carriers in a bulk liquid membrane system. Competitive $Cu^{2+}-M2^+$ transport studies have also been carried out for the same system. In single cation transport experiments, the best macrocyclic ligand for transport is a ligand that gives a moderately stable rather than very stable complex in the extraction. However, when both cations are present in the source phase, the cation which forms the most stable complex with carrier is favored in transport over other cations. Generally, the nitrogen substiituted macrocycles transport $Cu^{2+}$ selectively over $Mn^+$. Ligand structure, equilibrium constant (or stability constant) for complex formation, source phase pH and carrier concentration are also important parameters in transport experiments.

Podand-Mediated Transport of $Ag^+$ in a Bulk Liquid Membrane System

  • The Podand Ⅰ (Figure 1) has been studied as cation carrier in a bulk liquid membrane system. Ag+ and some other transition metal ions (M2+=Cu, Ni, Co, Zn, and Cd) have been transported using the podand as carrier in a bulk liquid membrane system. Studies on the transport of equimolar mixtures of two or three competing components have also been carried out with the same system. Ag+ exhibited a higher transport rate than the other M2+ in the competitive experiments. Ligand structure and the equilibrium constant for complex formation are important parameters in the transport of the metal ions.

세포막 물질수송계의 조절에 의한 유기수은의 세포독성 변화에 대한 연구 (Changes on the Methylmercury-induced Cytotoxicity by Control of Cell Membrane Transport System)

  • The aim of the current study was to evaluate the transport system in EMT-6 cell for the uptake of the methylmercury(MeHg). Several inhibitors ere used to test used to test which potential transport system might be involoved in MeHg uptake. Probenecid was used to test the organic transport system, valinomycin for testing the effect of the membrane potential, cytochalasin B for testing the facilitated diffusive D-glucose transport system and colchicine for testing the microtubule system. Ouabain for evaluating active transport system, 4',4-diisothiocyano-2',2-stilbenedisulfonic acid(DIDS) the Cl- ion transport system and verapamil for the $Ca^{2+}$ transprot system. Significantly, MeHg decreased the synthesis of nitric oxcide(NO) and intracellular ATP in ENT-6 cells. In the condition of ouabain containing with MeHg decreased the production of NO and intracelluar ATP. In the treatment of inhibitors, ouabain showed protective effect against cytotoxicity of MeHg but ather inhibitors not showed protective effects. The protective effects of ouabain against the cytotoxicity of MeHg deoended on the concentration of added ouabain to the culture medium for MET-6 cells. These result showed that the uptake of MeHg might be involved in the active transport system. Active transports system seems to share similarities with the transport systems for the uptake of MeHg when using MeHg and MeHg-glutathione complex.x.

  • There has been many attempts to improve the membrane performance using pervaporation processes[l-3]. They are 1) blending polymer with the high flux and one with high selectivity, 2) an incorporation of functional groups interacting with permeants into a membrane through copolymerization or modification, 3) composite membrane or asymmetric membrane structure with a thin skin layer which acts as a selective layer. Among them, a polymeric membrane containing ion complex group receives an extensive attention recently because ionic complex is known to activate the water transport through ion-dipole interaction. It is especially advantageous in the separation of organic-water system. We applied the ideas of the activation of water transport through ion-dipole. We have reported on the in-sire complex membrane to separate water from aqueous aceiic acid and pyridme solution[4-5] based on the simple acid-base theory. Water transport was enhanced through in-situ complex between pyridine moiety in the membrane and the incoming acetic acid in the feed. In this case, catalytic transport mechanism was proposed. In the present study we used pyridine solution as a feed and the sulfonic acid group in the membrane.

The Sediment Transport Pattern from a Large Industrial Complex to an Enclosed Bay

  • The movement of sediments in the stream crossing a large industrial complex to the mouth of Masan Bay was monitored for eight years. Sediment samples were seasonally collected in the period of $1992{\sim}1997$ and $2001{\sim}2002$. The heavy metal content of sediment was found to be higher at dry season with the peak on February and significantly decreased at rainy season. Metals content in stream sediments were rapidly decreased by large precipitation events in rainy season because the contaminants in the upstream sediments were transported to the dredged area of Masan Bay where is a typical enclosed bay in Korea. The increasing and decreasing tendency of heavy metals in sediment was repeatedly observed for six consecutive years. The heavy metals assessment of stream sediment provide us the information about the pollutant source, transport pattern and control strategy along the industrial complex. It was strongly suggested that the transportable stream sediments of an industrial area should be controlled as one of the important strategies to restore and manage the enclosed bay. Combined wastewaters have been collected and treated in a publicly owned treatment works (POTW) after industrial wastewater treatment at each location of industries since 1994. A field study was conducted to investigate the pollutant removal efficiency and performance of contact oxidation system installed and operated in two locations in the stream. The stream sediment quality was improved since then, and as a consequence the habitat of the estuary has been restored.

철도 화물취급역 입환생략모델(E&S) 도입 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effective and Speedy container handing system(E&S) Effectiveness in railroad)

  • The railroad freight transport has great merits that can transport mass and specific items(dangerous goods), but it takes a long time because of low accessibility to the logistics facility and the complex process of loading freight in middle station. This paper analyzed volumes and characters of each railroad freight item, and was carried out the effect of applying E&S system to Gyeongbu line containers to find the method of reducing transport time and effective container transportation. As a result of Cost-Effectiveness analysis, the block train(B/T) is reducing transport time more about 1~2 hours. The road congestion cost is saving about 2.2 billion won. And due to skipping work of organizing train, personnel and equipment expenses savings expected about 9 billion won. It is expected that the E&S system enhances the container transport service and has an effect positive influence on making a efficient method of transport. But It is necessary to estimate pre-feasibility of applying E&S system that the standard of estimating cost and benefit is required further examination.

납(Pb)이 생쥐 신장세포에 미토콘드리아 미세구조 및 전자전달계에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Lead on the Ultrastructure ana the Electron Transport System of Mitochondria of Mouse Kidney)

  • To investigate the effects of lead on the electron transport system and ultrastructure of mouse kidney mitochondria, various lead acetate concentrations were treated in vitro and respiration rate, enzyme activities were measured. Ultrastructural changes at state IV respiration were also observed. To compare with in vivo experiments, mouse were injected intraperitoneally of 100 mg lead acetate per kg body weight and state IV respiration rate and enzyme activities were measured. Ultrastructure of renal proximal tubular cells were also observed. In in vitro treatement, decreased state IV respiration, decreased enzyme activities, ruptured membranes and inhibition of condensed to orthodox transformation were observed. In in vivo treatment, decreased state IV respiration and decreased enzyme activities were observed after 24 hrs of i.p. injection. Cytochrome c oxidase activity showed twice the inhibition compared to NADH-CoQ reductase activity at 24 hrs. Continuous decreased state IV respiration was observed after 48 and 72 hrs of injection, however, the enzyme activities were increased to control level. Lead-protein complex which probably inhibits the toxic effects of lead appeared. To conclude, dominant effect of lead on the electron transport system appeared at cytochrome c oxidase activity, and the increased enzyme activities may be a result of appearance of lead-protein complex.

운송시스템의 리스크 분석방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Risk Analysis Method on the Transport System)

  • 시장의 세계화와 정보통신의 발전에 의해 물류 네트워크가 장기, 복잡화되어 지며, 네트워크 내에서 발생하는 리스크에 대응할 수 있는 시스템 능력이 감퇴했다. 이러한 리스크의 발생에 의해 물류시스템의 신뢰성이 저하되어, 리스크 관리의 필요성이 함께 증가하였다. 본 연구에서는 운송시스템 상에서 발생할 수 있는 리스크를 정의하고, 운송시스템의 신뢰성과 리스크 간의 관계를 규명하였다. 또한 운송시스템의 리스크 인자를 도출하여, 운송시스템의 리스크를 수리적으로 평가하는 분석 방법론을 제안하였다. 리스크 인자의 값을 산정하기 위해 발생 지수와 영향지수를 이용하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 분석방법론을 대형화물자동차 운송시스템에 적용하여 사례연구를 실시하였고, 적용된 운송시스템에 대한 리스크 지수를 최종적으로 도출하였다. 본 연구결과로서 운송시스템에 대한 리스크를 수치화하여 분석 할 수 있음을 보였으며, 향후 본 연구 결과가 운송시스템의 리스크 관리와 리스크 회피전략 도출을 위한 기초연구자료로 활용될 것으로 판단된다.

인천-개성(공단)간 바아지 항로의 기술적 타당성 분석 (A Technical Feasibility Analysis on Barge Transportation System between Incheon and Gaesung)

  • 최근 남북한 경제교류 증대, 개성공단의 급속한 발전 등에 따라 남북한 물류도 급속히 증가하고 있어 기존의 육상 수송뿐만이 아니라 다양한 형태의 수송로 확보가 필요한 실정이다. 한편 유럽 및 미국 등에서는 항만 및 적하역 시설의 이용이 용이하며 초기 투자비용이 저렴한 바아지시스템이 화물 수송에 널리 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 개성공단의 현황과 화물운송에 대하여 고찰하고 바아지시스템을 활용한 인천-개성(공단)간 후보 항로를 제안한다. 또한 인천-개성(공단)간 바아지 후보 항로에 대한 실해역 조사와 현장 답사 등을 통하여 바아지 운항 가능성에 대한 기술적 타당성을 검토한다. 마지막으로 인천-개성(공단)간 후보 항로(1)과(2)에 적합한 바아지시스템을 제안한다.

ITS provides drivers with traffic information and new routing options on route In order to make them move quickly to their destinations. The higher mobility, the more productivity we gain. The ultimate goal of Intelligent Transport System is to improve mobility. ITS world is broad and quite varied, as demonstrated by ITS user services, their distinct needs, and complex Interactions and synergies. ITS ties the transportation and telecommunication worlds together. The complex world of telecommunications is evolving and expanding rapidly. Especially over the last two decades, the birth and unprecedented growth of wireless is really marvelous and further holds tremendous promise into the future. This wireless and emerging technologies will offer extensive opportunities to handle many ITS user services, and alter many of the traditional paradigms of transportation.
