This paper presents the development of a Parallel-Typed CNC Machining Tool. It is specially designed to machine a complex shaped workpiece by controlling the orientation of the tool. The inverse/direct kinematics of a parallel mechanism is derived and implemented in a PC based controller. With graphics icons, the GUI (Graphic User Interface) program is developed for the CNC programing. The calibration is accomplished by geometric constraint motion, which is a parallel motion of the platform with respect to a table. The calibration result is introduced and the future study is proposed.
Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian finite element methods gain interest for the capability to control mesh geometry independently from material geometry, the ALE methods are used to create a new undistorted mesh for the fluid domain. In this paper we use the ALE technique to solve fuel slosh problem. Fuel slosh is an important design consideration not only for the fuel tank, but also for the structure supporting the fuel tank. "Fuel slosh" can be generated by many ways: abrupt changes in acceleration (braking), as well as abrupt changes in direction (highway exit-ramp). Repetitive motion can also be involved if a "sloshing resonance" is generated. These sloshing events can in turn affect the overall performance of the parent structure. A finite element analysis method has been developed to analyze this complex event. A new ALE formulation for the fluid mesh has been developed to keep the fluid mesh integrity during the motion of the tank. This paper explains the analysis capabilities on a technical level. Following the explanation, the analysis capabilities are validated against theoretical using potential flow for calculating fuel slosh frequency.
This paper suggests a method of the forward dynamic analysis for the computer simulation on the analysis of the dynamic behavior for biped walking robot. The equations f motion of the system or the simulation are constructed by using the Method of the multibody dynamics which is powerful method for modeling of the complex biped system. For the simplicity of simulation, we consider that the sole of the contacting foot is affected by the reaction forces for tree structure system topology instead of the addition or deletion of the kinematic constraints. The ground reaction forces can be modeled using the simple spring and damper model at the three contacting points on the sole of the foot. For minimizing the errors of numerical integration, the number of equations of motion is minimized by adding the driving constraints or a controller instead of the direct driving torques.

In this study, we propose a pseudo golf club which can sense user's swing motion and virtual golf simulation system using the pseudo golf club. The proposed system is a virtual golf simulation system of a complex play type in which a player can enjoy various types of golf play according to the user's taste by providing a play mode for hitting an actual golf ball and a play mode for swinging the pseudo golf club. This virtual golf play system calculates and displays the trajectory of a golf ball by a simulator just like playing a real golf, and suggests suitable swing motion, so it helps users to learn golf easily.
This paper presents a new nonmechanical rehabilitation system driven by magnetic force. Typically, finger rehabilitation mechanisms are complex mechanical systems. The proposed method allows wireless operation, a simple configuration, and easy installation on the hand for active actuation by magnetic force. The system consists of a driving coil, driving magnets (M1), and auxiliary magnets (M2 and M3), respectively, at the finger, palm, and the center of coil. The magnets and the driving coil produce three magnetic forces for an active motions of the finger. During active actuations, magnetic attractive forces between M1 and M2 or between M1 and M3 enhance the flexion/extension motions. The proposed system simply improves the extension motion of the finger using a magnetic system. In this system, the maximum force and angular variation of the extension motion were 0.438 N and $49^{\circ}$, respectively. We analyzed the magnetic interaction in the system and verified finger's active actuation.

Active compliance is often used in the control of robot manipulators for the implementation of complex tasks such as assembly, multi-finger fine motion, legged-vehicle adaptive control, etc. This technique balances the interactive force between the manipulator tip and its working environment with its position and velocity errors to achieve the operation of a damped spring. This paper investigates the effecft of passive compliance on system stability with regard to force feedback implementation for actively compliant motion. Usually it is understood that accurate position control require a stiff system. However, theoretical examination of control experiments on a legged suspension vehicle suggests that, if the control includes discrete-time force feedback, some passive compliance is necessssary at the legs of the vehicle for system stability. This can be an important factor to bl considered in manipulator design and control. A theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental result, confirming the above conclusion, are introduced in this paper.
The beating motion of a high speed shuttleless loom is driven by cams. Two cams become one system and their shaft laid across each other. Moreover, the shape of the cams is very complex and requires high precision for successful weft insertion and good interlacing with warp yarn. The iterative contact method is developed for use in design and analysis of the driving mechanism of a disk type cam with oscillating roller follower. The optimum design is performed by utilizing a CAD program, DISKCAM. The 8th order polynomial is selected to interpolate the desired shape trajectory of the cam, the optimal shape of the cams is defined based on the demension of the follower. The kinematic motion of the beating cam mechanism is investigated. The phase angle is determined to achive harmonious cam motions

This research is concerned with the dynamic modeling of solar arrays equipped with strain energy hinges(SEH). It is found from experiments that the SEH has nonlinear dynamic characteristics and complex buckling behavior, which is difficult to explain theoretically. In this paper, we use an equivalent one-dimensional nonlinear torsional spring for the SEH. Assuming that solar panels are rigid, we developed the systematic approach for the derivation of the theoretical model for the solar arrays equipped with the multitudes of the SEH. To this end, the kinematic relation of the displacement vector of each body is derived and then applied to the equations of motion. Lagrangian equations of motion are used for the derivations.

A multi-dimensional freeze drying analysis program, which took simultaneous heat and mass transfer, sublimation of ice and motion of sublimation front into full account, was developed using finite volume method with fixed grid. The effect due to the motion of sublimation interface was modeled by an enthalpy formulation streamlined for the freeze drying problems. The efficiency and accuracy of the program was validated by solving one- and two-dimensional freeze drying problems frequently encountered in industrial processes. Finally, the freeze drying processes of cylinder and slab objects with permeable side surfaces were simulated, which demonstrated the capability of the present analysis program in solving multi-dimensional freeze drying problems with complex sublimation interface configurations.
For safe last-mile autonomous robot delivery services in complex environments, rapid and accurate collision prediction and detection is vital. This study proposes a suitable neural network model that relies on multiple navigation sensors. A light detection and ranging technique is used to measure the relative distances to potential collision obstacles along the robot's path of motion, and an accelerometer is used to detect impacts. The proposed method tightly couples relative distance and acceleration time-series data in a complementary fashion to minimize errors. A long short-term memory, fully connected layer, and SoftMax function are integrated to train and classify the rapidly changing collision countermeasure state during robot motion. Simulation results show that the proposed method effectively performs collision prediction and detection for various obstacles.
