The Finite Element (FE) modeling of Reinforced Concrete (RC) under seismic loading has a sensitive impact in terms of getting good contribution compared to experimental results. Several idealized model types for simulating the nonlinear response have been developed based on the plasticity distribution alone the model. The Continuum Models are the most used category of modeling, to understand the seismic behavior of structural elements in terms of their components, cracking patterns, hysteretic response, and failure mechanisms. However, the material modeling, contact and nonlinear analysis strategy are highly complex due to the joint operation of concrete and steel. This paper presents a numerical simulation of a chosen RC column under monotonic and cyclic loading using the FE Abaqus, to assessthe hysteretic response and failure mechanisms in the RC columns, where the perfect bonding option is used for the contact between concrete and steel. While results of the numerical study under cyclic loading compared to experimental tests might be unsuccessful due to the lack of bond-slip modeling. The monotonic loading shows a good estimation of the envelope response and deformation components. In addition, this work further demonstrates the advantage and efficiency of the damage distributions since the obtained damage distributions fit the expected results.
The ovarian structure and ultrastructural changes in germ cells during oogenesis of the spiny top shell, Batillus cornutus, have been investigated by light and electron microscopic observations. Specimens of the spiny top shell were collected from the subtidal zone of Wando, south coast of Korea. Spiny top shell was dioecious. The ovary was located on the surface of the hepatopancreas in the spiral posterior region. The ovary had greenish color in the gonadal mature season. The ovary comprised many ovarian lobules, and the ovarian lobule consisted of connective mesenchymal tissue and epithelial cells. Oogonium had a large nucleus with nucleolus of high electron density. In previtellogenic oocyte, small yolk granules of low electron density were scattered in the cytoplasm. Oocytes in the initial vitellogenic stage were connected with the ovarian lobule by egg stalk. The result of TEM observations showed that initial vitellogenic oocyte contained well-developed Golgi complex, endoplasmic reticula, tubular mitochondria and numerous yolk granules of various electron densities and sizes. The electron density, size and quantity of yolk granules which were distributed in the active vitellogenic oocyte were increased compared to the previous stage. Thickness of egg envelope in the late active vitellogenic oocyte was approximately 4.4 $[\mu}m$. Cytoplasm of ripe oocyte was filled with proteid yolk globules of high electron density and lipid yolk globules of low electron density. In this stage, the thickness of egg envelope was approximately 6.5 ${\mu}m$.
Protein dephosphorylation is important for cellular regulation, which is catalyzed by protein phosphatases. Among protein phosphatases, carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) phosphatases are recently emerging and new functional roles of them have been revealed. There are 7 CTD phosphatases in human genome, which are composed of CTD phosphatase 1 (CTDP1), CTD small phosphatase 1 (CTDSP1), CTD small phosphatase 2 (CTDSP2), CTD small phosphatase-like (CTDSPL), CTD small phosphatase-like 2 (CTDSPL2), CTD nuclear envelope phosphatase (CTDNEP1), and ubiquitin-like domain containing CTD phosphatase 1 (UBLCP1). CTDP1 dephosphorylates the second phosphor-serine of CTD of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII), while CTDSP1, STDSP2, and CTDSPL dephosphorylate the fifth phosphor-serine of CTD of RNAPII. In addition, CTDSP1 dephosphorylates new substrates such as mothers against decapentaplegic homologs (SMADs), cell division cycle-associated protein 3 (CDCA3), Twist1, tumor-suppressor protein promyelocytic leukemia (PML), and c-Myc. CTDP1 is related to RNA polymerase II complex recycling, mitosis regulation and cancer cell growth. CTDSP1, CTDSP2 and CTDSPL are related to transcription factor recruitment, tumor suppressor function and stem cell differentiation. CTDNEP1 dephosphorylates LIPIN1 and is related to neural tube formation and nuclear envelope formation. CTDSPL2 is related to hematopoietic stem cell differentiation. UBLCP1 dephosphorylates 26S proteasome and is related to nuclear proteasome regulation. In conclusion, noble roles of CTD phosphatases are emerging through recent researches and this review is intended to summarize emerging roles of CTD phosphatases.

We present a multi-wavelength observational study of a low-mass star-forming region, L1251-C, with observational results at wavelengths from the near-infrared to the millimeter. Spitzer Space Telescope observations confirmed that IRAS 22343+7501 is a small group of protostellar objects. The extended emission to east-west direction with its intensity peak at the center of L1251A has been detected at 350 and 850 mm with the CSO and JCMT telescopes, tracing dense envelope materials around L1251A. The single-dish data from the KVN and TRAO telescopes show inconsistencies between the intensity peaks of several molecular line emission and that of the continuum emission, suggesting complex distributions of molecular abundances around L1251A. The SMA interferometer data, however, show intensity peaks of CO 2-1 and $^{13}CO$ 2-1 located at the position of IRS 1, which is both the brightest source in IRAC image and the weakest source in the 1.3 mm dust continuum map. IRS 1 is the strongest candidate for being the driving source of a newly detected the compact CO 2-1 outflow. Over the whole region ($14^{\prime}{\times}14^{\prime}$) of L125l-C, 3 Class I and 16 Class II sources have been detected, including three YSOs in L1251A. A comparison with the average projected distance among 19 YSOs in L1251-C and that among 3 YSOs in L1251A suggests L1251-C is an example of low-mass cluster formation, where protostellar objects are forming in a small group.

Background A persistent problem in autologous breast reconstruction in skin-sparing mastectomies is skin restoration after skin necrosis or secondary oncological resection. As a solution to facilitate reconstruction, skin banking of free-flap skin has been proposed in cases where the overlying skin envelope must be resected, as this technique spares the patient an additional donor site. Herein, we present the largest series to date in which this method was used. We investigated its safety and the possibility of skin banking for prolonged periods of time. Methods All skin-sparing mastectomies and immediate autologous breast reconstructions from December 2009 until June 2013 at our institution were analysed. Results We identified 31 patients who underwent 33 free flap reconstructions in which skin banking was performed. Our median skin banking period was 7 days, with a maximum duration of 171 days. In 22.5% of cases, the banked skin was used to reconstruct overlying skin defects, and in 9.6% of cases to reconstruct the nipple-areolar complex. Microbiological and histological investigations of the banked skin revealed neither clinical infections nor malignancies. Conclusions In situ skin banking, even for prolonged periods of time, is a safe and cost-effective method to ensure that skin defects due to necrosis or secondary oncological resection can be easily reconstructed.
The observation using an electron microscope shows that the maturation of the oocyte of African giant snail, Achatina fulica, proceeds over three stages. The oocyte of stage 1 is a small elliptic cell $(220\times400{\mu}m)$ whose light nucleoplasm contains two nucleoli. In its cytoplasm, a number of mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticula, and ribosomes are found, while yolk granules are not. The nucleus of the oocyte of stage 2 is relatively large in comparison with the volume of cytoplasm, and contains one nucleolus. In the nuclear envelope comprising inner and outer double membrane, there are found a lot of nuclear pores for materials to pass through. A number of mitochondria, Golgi complex and lipid yolk granules appears in the cytoplasm, and proteinous yolk granules begin to form and mature in the vacuoles of various sizes ($0.8\sim3.0{\mu}m$ in diameter). The oocyte of stage 3 has an enlarged nucleolus. Material transportation through nuclear pore is not found any longer. The cytoplasm in this stage is filled with proteinous and lipid yolk granules. The microvilli are developed around the egg plasma membrane.
The ability of neurotropic alpha herpesviruses to replicate within synaptically linked neurons has made these pathogens valuable tools for transneuronal analysis. Recent studies suggest that unique gene products expressed by genetically engineered strains of virus may permit the use of multiple strains in complex tracing paradigms. In the present study we have examined the invasiveness of two genetically engineered strains of the swine pathogen known as pseudorabies virus(PRV). The two strains were isogenic with the attenuated Bartha strain of PRV; in one strain a lacZ reporter gene was inserted into the gC locus (PRV-BaBlu; $4.75\times10^8pfu/ml$) contrained a PRV envelope glycoprotein gene that was absent in PRV-BaBlu. Simultaneous or temporally separated sequential injection of $4\mu\ell$ of each strain into the ventral wall of the stomach produced a predictale course of retrograde synaptic infection. The results were as follows: 1. PRV-BaBlu and PRV-D infected the dorsal motor nucleus of vagus nerve(DMV) and paraventricular nucleus(PVN). 2. Invasion and replication of PRV-D occured at a faster rate than the parental strain or PRV-BaBlu. 3. PRV-D was much more virulent than PRV-BaBlu or the parental strain. 4. Co-injection of PRV-D and PRV-BaBlu produced an infection that was more virulent than that produced by the parental strain (PRV-Bartha), 5. Neurons in DMV were permissive to co-infection with PRV-D and PRV-BaBlu when they were injected simultaneously into the same site. 6. Replication of PRV-BaBlu was compromised by prior infection of the same circuit with PRV-D. 7. Prior infection of neurons with PRV-D maked them resistant to infection with PRV-BaBlu.
The nonlinear effects on the statistical properties of wave groups in terms of the average nomber of waves in a group and the mean number of waves in a high run is studied in this paper utilizing the complex envelope and total phase function, random variable transformation technique and perturbation method. It tures out that the phase distribution is modified significantly by nonlinearities and it show systematic excess of values near the mean phase and the corresponding symmetrical deficiency on both sides away from the mean. for the case of threshold crossing rate, it turns out that threshold crossing rate reaches its maxima just below the mean water level rather than zero and considerable amount of probability mass is shifted toward the larger values of water surface elevation as nonlinearity is getting profound. Furthermore, the mean waves in a high run associated with nonlinear wave are shown to have larger values than the linear counterpart. Similar trend can also be found in the average number of waves in a group.
High-performing architecture should be designed by taking into account the mutual dependency between the new building and the local context. The performative architecture plays an important role to avert any unforeseen failures after the building has been built; particularly ones related to the microclimate impacts that affect the human comfort. The use of the concept of solar envelopes helps designers to construct the developable mass of the building design considering the solar access and the site obstruction. However, the current analysis method using solar envelopes lack in terms of integrating the detailed information of the existing context during the simulation process. In architectural design, often the current site modelling not only absent in preserving the complex geometry but also information on the surface characteristics. Currently, the emerging applications of point clouds offer a great possibility to overcome these limitations, since they include the attribute information such as XYZ as the position information and RGB as the color information. This study particularly presents a comparative analysis between the manually built 3D models and the models generated from the point cloud data. The modelling comparisons focus on the relevant factors of solar radiation and a set of simulation to calculate the performance indicators regarding selected portions of the models. The experimental results emphasize an introduction of the design approach and the dataset visibility of the 3D existing environments. This paper ultimately aims at improving the current architectural decision of support environment means, by increasing the correspondence between the digital models for performance analysis and the real environments (context of design) during the conceptual design phase.

Presented is a method for nonstationary response analysis of an offshore guyed tower subjected to strong earthquake motions under moderate random waves and current loadings. By taking the time varying envelope function and the auto-correlation function of the ground acceleration in terms of complex exponential functions, an analytical procedure is developed for computing time varying variances of the tower response. The stationary responses due to small random waves are obtained by using frequency domain method, and the results are combined with the nonstationary results due to earthquakes. Finally, the expected maximum responses are estimated. Through the example analyses, the nonstationary method developed in this study is verified, and the contributions of the earthquake, wave and current loadings to the total maximum response are investigated.
