  • This paper suggests a two-phase look-ahead Banker's algorithm for efficient operation of capacitated automated production systems. The algorithm improves the ability of detecting safe states of the previous one by considering the possibility of processing each job to completion at once as well as partial movement between jobs. The improved performance of the proposed algorithm is testified by performing numerical experiment in terms of (i) detection rate of safe states and (ii) system throughput and verified by using paired t-test.

  • We investigated the effects of aprotinin, a protease inhibitor, on isolated rat heart subjected to cardioplegia and global ischemia for 4 hours and then reperfused for 40 minutes. Before ischemia, hearts were perfused with either aprotinin 1x105KIU/L[Aprotinin group,n=8 or no aprotinin[control group,n=8 added to Krebs-Henseleite solution for 30 minutes. Hemodynamic and biochemical parameters such as heart rate, LVP, dP/dt, coronary flow and creatine kinase were measured before cardioplegia and after reperfusion 10,20,30,40 minutes. After completion of experiment, wet and dry heart weight were measured for tissue water and water content evaluation. On reperfusion, recovery of LVP of aprotinin group at each time point was significantly better than that of control group[p<0.05 , and of dP/dt at reperfusion 40 minutes[p=0.034 . No statistically significant differences in heart rate, coronary flow and CK were observed between the two groups, but aprotinin group seemed to have better recovery. No significant differences in tissue water and water content were observed between the two group. These results suggest that pretreatment of aprotinin is effective in myocardial preservation in prolonged hypothermic ischemia and reperfusion.

  • The isometric torque of the elbow flexor and extensor muscles were measured for 6 seconds at a joint angle of 90$^{\circ}$ , in 10 normal subjects (control group) and 10 hemiplegic subjects(patient group), using the Cybex NORMTM System. The peak torque, the time to peak torque were measured for each exercise. In addition, heart rate and blood pressure were recorded simultaneously at rest and immediately following exercise completion at 1 and 3m mutes. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 8.0 for Windows software and mean and standard deviations were calculated. The results are as follows. 1) In the patient involved group. the isometric values for flexors and extensors were significantly lower than in the normal nondominant group(p<.05). 2) The extensor to flexor strength ratio in the isometric mode was 121.0% in the patient involved group compared with 78.7%in the normal nondominant group, a significant difference(p<.05). 3) The mean increment ratio was increased 19.0% for systolic blood pressure and 25.2% for disatolic blood pressure in the patient group. 4) The mean increment ratio was increased 36.0% heart rate in the patient group.

  • With the change in Earth's ecosystems due to climate change, a number of studies on zero energy buildings have been conducted globally, due to the depletion of energy and resources. However, most studies have concentrated on residential and office buildings and the performance predictions were made only in the design phase. This study verifies the zero-energy performance in the operational phase by acquiring and analyzing data after the completion of an exhibition building. This building was a retention building, in which a renewable energy system using a passive house building envelope, solar photovoltaic power generation panels, as well as fuel cells were adopted to minimize the maintenance cost for future energy-zero operations. In addition, the energy performance of the building was predicted through prior simulations, and this was compared with actual measured values to evaluate the energy performance of the actual operational records quantitatively. The energy independence rate during the measurement period of the target building was 123% and the carbon reduction due to the energy production on the site was 408.07 tons. The carbon reduction exceeded the carbon emission (331.5 tons), which verified the carbon zero and zero-energy performances.

  • In acquiring and transferring a superior knowledge assesing the intermediate result value of a competitive R&D project is very important for a firm engaging in R&D. Most existing literatures on R&D evaluation are concerned with project selection and resource allocation. In this paper the stage of an R&D project is classified into research, exploratory development, and development. And a model is suggested which evaluates the intermediate result value before completion of development stage under duopoly and oligopolistic competition. Assessed value of the intermediate result transferred to the next tier company can be used as a minimum acceptable price to the inventor when more advanced knowledge acquired through R&D is transferred to the next tier one. The model suggested is composed of structural variables including research cost, success rates, potential profits, discount rate degree of competition. By using exponential distribution for invertion process time in each stage, we derive a formula that can assess the value of the intermediate result, and we demonstrate how the model can be applied to a competitive R&D situation through an example.

  • Fire detectors are designed to minimize loss of life from a fire alarm system as an alarm to help evacuate more quickly until the completion of the evacuation alarm should be continued. the purpose of such alarms in order to achieve the characteristic fire heat release rate reaches a certain level, or when a certain time has elapsed, when the heat detector is to be alarms to answer. Requires a quick response, it is desirable to install the sensor as much as possible, but taking into account the cost of installation problems by engineering approach to minimize the quantity and rapidity of detection capability should be increased. In order to increase the rapidity of fire detectors in a room according to the height of the sensing period is to be maintained the optimum distance of the fire detector detects characteristics should be considered. Differential spot-type heat detectors installed domestic basis, depending on the type of sensor that can detect one sensor area is limited and less than 4m ceiling height regulations and simply double the number in excess of 4m and intended to be installed.

  • Nowadays most colleges are confronting with a serious problem because many students have left their majors at the colleges. In order to make a countermeasure for reducing major separation rate, many universities are trying to find a proper solution. As a similar endeavor, the objective of this paper Is to find a predicting model of students leaving their majors. The sample for this study was chosen from a university in Kangwon-Do during seven years(2000.3.1 $\sim$ 2006. 6.30). In this study, the ratio of training sample versus testing sample among partition data was controlled as 50% : 50% for a validation test of data division. Also, this study provides values about accuracy, sensitivity, specificity about three kinds of algorithms including CHAID, CART and C4.5. In addition, ROC chart and gains chart were used for classification of students leaving their majors. The analysis results were very informative since those enable us to know the most important factors such as semester taking a course, grade on cultural subjects, scholarship, grade on majors, and total completion of courses which can affect students leaving their majors.

  • Recently, public interest in housing defects, such as construction errors, occupiers' complaints, faults in production, and so on, is increasing. In addition, the construction requirements of high-rise residential buildings have increased, due to the higher prices of urban areas, especially in metropolitan areas. While previous research has focused on the defects occurring in apartment housing complexes, research has not been carried out on the defects occurring in high-rise residential buildings. In this paper, the defects patterns and characteristics of high-rise residential buildings are examined and analyzed and a defect management plan is then suggested. In order to do this, we collected the defects data of high-rise residential buildings recorded by 2,299 of 2,327 occupants. The defect occurrence rate (DOR) in the residential area is 98.8%. The frequency rate of defect occurrence over the total defect occurrence since building completion is 63.28% during the first year, 24.63% (second year), 6.88% (third year), 2.27% (fourth year), and 2.53% (fifth year). The result of correlation analysis between work types showed that there is a relationship between the built-in furniture and electronics (F&E) and painting works, and the F&E and masonry works, such as marble finishing. We expect that this research will assist in the efforts to decrease the number of defects in high-rise buildings.

  • In the case of aged structures, the information of the structure is often lost after the completion of construction, and there is a great difficulty in predicting the durability life of the structure due to the lack of information on concrete formulations. In this study, the durability of concrete specimens was evaluated by various field and indoor test methods based on the core specimens collected from the field, and the durability life of the concrete structures was predicted by using the FEM analysis technique. As a result, the neutralization rate coefficient was $5.38E-6(cm^2/day)$ and the rate of progress was low. And the possibility of complex deterioration due to carbonation and salting was found to be very low.

  • Naval ships are complex weapon systems which play the integrated performance by system integration of many kinds of weapon systems and their leading ships are usually not disposed after test and evaluation but militarised. Then, strict project management is required for naval ship building projects by identifying problems early and by taking prefer measures in time against unexpected situations encountered in the process of the projects. EVMS is a project management system which can manage the schedule and the budget of a project concurrently and estimate the project's time duration and the cost at project completion. In this paper, the applicability and usefulness of WMS is studied for a assumed navai ship building project, in the environment of monetary fluctuations such as price index, wage increase rate and exchange rate.
