  • This paper is to build an economic production quantity model for situations, in which, during the stockout period, a fraction .betha.(backorder ratio) of the demand is backordered and remaining fraction (1-.betha.) is lost. This paper develops an objective function representing the average annual cost of a production system by defining a time-weighted backorder cost and a lost sales penalty cost per unit lost under the assumptions of deterministic demand rate and deterministic production rate, and provides an algorithm for its optimal solution. At the extreme .betha.= 1, the presented model reduces to the Fabrycky's model with complete backorders.

  • This paper proposes a personal information protection model that allows a user to regulate his or her own personal information and privacy protection policies to receive services provided by a service provider without having to reveal personal information in a way that the user is opposed to. When the user needs to receive a service that requires personal information, the user will only reveal personal information that they find acceptable and for uses that they agree with. Users receive desired services from the service provider only when there is agreement between the user's and the service provider's security policies. Moreover, the proposed model utilizes a mobile agent that is transmitted from the user's personal space, providing the user with complete control over their privacy protection. In addition, the mobile agent is itself a self-destructing program that eliminates the possibility of personal information being leaked. The mobile agent described in this paper allows users to truly control access to their personal information.

It will suggest a set of requirements engineering processes as a procedure of the implementation for building the requirements model. It will also emphasise the evaluation requirements model aimed to refine and complete the requirements model by the different user groups as a cross reference. This paper provides an advanced user-construction requirements within the Event Flow Diagram as a set of requirements engineering process.

  • We propose a filter design method to suppress the effect of gyroscope mixed random errors at INS system level. It is based on the result that mixed random errors can be represented by a single equivalent ARMA model. At first step, the time difference of equivalent ARMA process is performed, which consider the characteristic of indirect feedback Kalman filter used in INS filter. Next, a state space conversion of time differenced ARMA model is achieved. If the order of AR is greater than that of MA, the controllable or observable canonical form is used. Otherwise, we introduce the state equation of which the state variable is composed of the ARMA model output and several step ahead predicts of that. At final step, a complete form state equation is presented. The simulation results shows that the proposed method gives less transient error and better convergence compared to the conventional filter which assume the mixed random errors as white noise.

  • A real-time vehicle simulation system is a key element of a driving simulator because accurate prediction of vehicle motion with respect to driver input is required to generate realistic visual, motion, sound and proprioceptive cues. In order to predict vehicle motion caused by various driving actions of the driver on board the simulator, the vehicle model should consist of complete subsystems. On this paper, a tracked vehicle dynamic model with high efficiency and effectiveness is introduced that has been implemented on a training driving simulator. The multi-body vehicle model is based on recursive formulation and has been automatically generated from a symbolic computation package develop...

  • Most of researches of tolerance optimization have used a simple sum of tolerance-cost functions with several constraint equations as an optimization model. However, if there is a machining sequence with more than one processes to complete a part, and machining failure, i.e., out-of-tolerance occurs at one of the intermediate processes, the tolerance-cost of this process should be added by the machining cost of all the previous processes already completed on the part. In this study, an accumulated scrap cost model(ASCM) is proposed considering the scrapped machining cost, and applied to a simple assembly example. The result of tolerance optimization using ASCM is compared with that of using a traditional optimization model to confirm its effectiveness.

  • An extensive database has been constructed of reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column connection tests subjected to cyclic lateral loading. All cases within the database experienced joint shear failure, either in conjunction with or without yielding of longitudinal beam reinforcement. Using the experimental database, envelope curves of joint shear stress vs. joint shear strain behavior have been created by connecting key points such as cracking, yielding, and peak loading. Various prediction approaches for RC joint shear behavior are discussed using the constructed experimental database. RC joint shear strength and deformation models are first presented using the database in conjunction with a Bayesian parameter estimation method, and then a complete model applicable to the full range of RC joint shear behavior is suggested. An RC joint shear prediction model following a U.S. standard is next summarized and evaluated. Finally, a particular joint shear prediction model using basic joint shear resistance mechanisms is described and for the first time critically assessed.

  • A numerical study of soil-foundation system under monotonic and cyclic pushover loading is conducted, taking into account both material and geometric nonlinearities. A complete and refined 3D finite element (FE) model, using contact condition and allowing separation between soil and foundation, is implemented and used in order to evaluate the nonlinear relationship between applied vertical forces and induced settlements. Based on the obtained curve, a simplified model is proposed, in which the soil inelasticity is satisfactorily represented by two vertical springs with trilinear behavior law, and the foundation uplifting is insured by gap elements. Results from modeling soil-foundation system supporting a bridge pier have shown that the simplified model is able to capture irreversible settlements induced by cyclic rocking, due to soil inelasticity and vertical loading, as well as large rotations due to foundation uplifting.

  • In this note, a recent work in Won (2011) which investigates properties of the newsvendor model under progressive multiple discounts is revisited and a complete proof is provided for the conjecture on the consistent advantage of progressive multiple discounts over no-discounts in terms of the expected profit. The proof considers the generalized newsvendor model under progressive multiple discounts extended with positive shortage cost and salvage value which have not been considered in the previous newsvendor models under progressive multiple discounts. Without relying on derivatives, we prove that the expected profit under progressive multiple discounts are consistently greater than or equal to the one under no-discounts for every order quantity as far as her multiple discounts do not decrease customer demand, and therefore, the optimal expected profit under progressive multiple discounts is always greater than or equal to the one under no-discounts. As by-products from the proof, some interesting features of the generalized newsvendor model under progressive multiple discounts are revealed.

  • The magnetic circuit analysis excluding flux loss and fringing effect often gives a result with unignorable error, when compared with real system. But, it is not easy to make a complete magnetic circuit model with the loss effects. This paper introduces a relatively simple method to build the model including the flux loss and fringing effect, in which the paths of leaked flux are simplified in terms of circular arcs and straight lines. After modification of the model, the error of about 36 % in maximum between the magnetic circuit analysis and FEM analysis is reduced to about 7 %.
