The future will see all industries become technology-driven in the competitive global marketplace. Venture firms with deep technological roots and innovation strategies have some advantages. In this situation, existing methods for technology assessment are not enough to evaluate their relative technology competitiveness. Therefore, a more useful and comprehensive approach is needed to obtain the desired outcomes for measuring the relative competitiveness of technology effectively. In this research, I applied factor analysis, which is methodology to be capable of determining the common factors and associated weights reasonably, to the development of the technology competitiveness indexes.

The following study has been undertaken to build a model for evaluating the level of quality competitiveness of Korean companies in the area of information management. The objective of this paper is to compare the difference in quality-based competitiveness between the 100 advanced companies and other companies in IT management. This empirical study provides the questionnaire and the rating criteria for evaluation, so that any Korean company can easily evaluate their competitiveness. The model, the criteria and the results of this study can be used as a basis for benchmarking. The result indicates that the 100 advanced companies' quality competitiveness is significantly higher than that of most other companies that were surveyed in this study.

This study empirically tests post-M&A performance through competitiveness variables based on extensive firm-based panel data over the past 26 years in the world steel industry. Different measures of profitability, productivity, efficiency, market share, and growth rate which are considered as critical factors of competitiveness are used in the analysis. In particular, this paper tries to separate M&A samples into two cases; horizontal integration (between steel makers) and vertical integration (between steel makers and iron ore suppliers/steel consuming firms). Merged firms show significant improvement in competitiveness relative to other individual firms in the steel industry.

Basic research is becoming more important in knowledge-based economy. In Korea, government's research policy has been enforcing applied research and development for economic growth rather than basic research. But, in 21st century, Korea's catch-up policy in science and technology arrived its limit. Without creative knowledge, we cannot expect national competitiveness. Therefore, we have to reform our research policy for national competitiveness. The directions are as follows; first, strengthening basic research, especially use-inspired basic research. Second, enlarging individual research program rather than group research program. Third, encouraging universities' specification through research grant review criteria. Fourth, beginning a new program for supporting regional universities' competitiveness.

Korea construction industry needs to secure its competitiveness in global construction markets and to urgently find out the proper approaches in consideration of the current situation of Korean construction enterprises and environmental changes in the international market. Korea has national plan to improve the competitive level of the construction industry. Expecially, Government is trying to build the global system in construction industry. But there are no the related national competitive date. Therefore, this paper suggested national competitive indicators and development direction in construction industry. And this research has presented the competitiveness analysis of construction industry with the consideration of condition of infrastructure, transparency and technological competitiveness.

This study investigates empirically the export competitiveness of Korea and Japan in America by calculating 4 indexes such as market share index(MSI), export similarity index(ESI), market comparative adventage index(MCAI) and market share expansion ratio(MSER)-export similarity deepening ratio(ESDR). The empirical finding of this analysis shows that Korea is competitive in the labor-intensive products and Japan in the technology-intensive products. This result also meets the general understandings that Japan is superior to Korea in the export competitiveness such as value added of goods, etc. Therefore, in order to strengthen the export competitiveness of Korea in the US market, it's desirable for our firms and government to improve the quality of product ranges by developing technologies focused on the higher value-added products.

This study investigated and analyzed the export competitiveness of Gyeonggi-Do and the effect of Korea-US FTA on its export competitiveness. By reviewing the current status of trade structure and implementing trade specialization index(TSI) of export commodities of Gyeonggi-Do, the investigation has listed the specific export commodities with competitiveness for increasing the volume of its export in the United States, in the short, mid and long run perspectives. From the findings in this study, it suggests specific trade and commercial policies to Korea-US FTA including implementing commodity-oriented export supporting system, strategic marketing method, economic-free-zone plan, R&D investment, export financing and regional economic cooperation.

The purpose of this paper is to measure the international competitiveness of insurance business and to analyze its determinants empirically. I have attempted to use Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) index to measure domestic competitiveness. confining to OECD countries only. Among domestic competitiveness advantage countries in the insurance, there are Austria, Denmark, France. Japan, Korea... etc. The factors of domestic competitiveness determinants were found out through multivariate regression analysis with panel data$(1990{\sim}1995)$. In insurance industry, statistically significant variables are employee's per capita premium of insurance company (Pro), stock market capitalization/GDP(MVESR), saving rate (SAV) and real interest(RMMR), while they are Pro, MVESR, and real interest in Korea insurance industry.

The circumstances surrounding world ports have changed rapidly and port competition to attract cargoes has been increasing fiercely. Specifically, deploying large container vessels resulted fewer port visits and strategic alliance among liner shipping companies. Recently, many studies have worked for improving port competitiveness. However, these studies were limited to evaluation of only port competitiveness and few studies suggested strategies for reinforcing port competitiveness. Although implications of these previous studies are practically available to build policies for port, there have been very few academic studies such as identifying port competitiveness and port selection with related attributes for reasonable evaluation and analysis. Therefore, this study aims to classify the existing studies, which dealt with port selection problem, based on basic structure that was suggested by Murphy (1992). Furthermore, the conceptual definition will be carried out by comparison analysis in terms of time of study, type of data and methodology and decision factor of each study.

Container port is one of the most vital link of the transportation chain that plays an important role in trading with other countries. Having a proper understanding of port operations could change the role of the port from a transportation node to an efficient point in a transportation chain. Development of transportation chains, logistics and progress of these networks have enhanced the sustainable condition and level of transportation. Therefore, evaluating the competitiveness of ports is obligatory for port users to make a decision in investment or exploitation. This paper introduces the use of Fuzzy C-means and TOPSIS for competitiveness comparison among a sample of container terminals in Korea and China and determine how to improve Korean port competitiveness and particularly in Busan port.
