We have compared Korean and American mathematics curriculums in 5 areas: whole number(concepts and its operations); geometry; pattern and relations; measurements; statistics and probability. We have found significant differences in geometry area. Korean curriculums contain simple planar figures (circles, triangles, rectangles, and squres) and some of the spatial figures until 3rd grades. But in America they learn various planar and spatial fugures(cone, pyramid, triangular prism, etc) since the 1st grade starts. They also start the 1st grade by dealing with topological concepts like open/closed, inside/outside, order, etc. As the grade goes on, students learn other geometrical concepts like congruence, symmetry, 3-dimensional views. We also found that American curriculum focuses on students' activities and courages communication through projects, groupwork, journal writing, etc. It's also superior in respects of motivation, and connections with real life and other subjects. Korean curriculum needs more improvements in these aspects. Furthermore for lower graders reviewing sections need to be enhanced for feedback.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the curriculum segment of the dental hygiene education accrediting criteria, one of the six segments of the criteria, and the curriculums of 26 colleges in a bid to provide information on the modification or improvement of the curriculums. Method : The curriculums of 18 three-year-course colleges and eight four-year-course universities were selected, and the courses offered by 10 colleges or more were categorized into three different fields to tabulate the courses: primary education, prevention / education, and clinical dental hygiene. After the courses were analyzed, some of them that were possible to integrate in view of dental hygienist duties were presented in this study as inclusive courses. Results : There was connection among the degree courses of the three-year-course curriculums in the field of primary education. The curriculums failed to keep up with the worldwide globalization trend. 90 credits or more were allocated to major subjects, which satisfied one of the mandatory requirements of the accrediting criteria, and two colleges provided theoretical and practical courses in the ratio of 50:50. A wide variety of personality-education and teaching-profession courses were offered according to each college's circumstances. None of the colleges was equipped with an inclusive curriculum, and there was a tendency for the three-year-course colleges to offer segmented subjects in accordance with the national examination. The courses in the field of prevention and education that are bound up with the job performance of dental hygienists should be integrated into dental hygiene and practice, and the courses in the clinical dental hygiene field should be incorporated into an inclusive course of 치과임상학. The integration of the courses will make it possible to ensure the successful articulation of the different school systems and to stay abreast with the globalization trend. Even just inclusive courses should give more weight to practice than theory to bolster the job performance of dental hygienists, and an inclusive curriculum should be prepared for students to receive activity-centered hands-on education in different semesters.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate curriculums of physical therapy department in order to provide the basic data for developing educational standard. Methods : We identified the curriculums of physical therapy department in the world from January to may 2010 by internet, e-mail, fax and telephone. We compared the credits, education semesters, the names of departments, the numbers of departments for physical therapy education in all countries of the world and suggested some alternative for improvement. Results : The mean credits of 25 senior colleges were 140 and the mean credits of 22 Junior colleges were 136.6 in south Korea. The mean educational semesters and the mean credits were 9 semesters, 175.8credits of 1,363 universities in 73countries in the world. Of the 1,289 universities in the world, South Korea was ranked the fifth in the number of existing physical therapy education institutions with the number of 72. The name of department were comprised of physical therapy(1,289, 94.6%) and compound name(75, 5.4%) Conclusion : We suggest that the KAPT gradually rearranges senior college(4years), 170 creditS and consider time of community services and forms commission on accreditation in physical therapy education for developing educational standard. Also, we suggest to change the name of department into compound name because the student can have a chance to studies various subjects and get a chance to more occupations. We hope that the results of study can be helpful in order to rearrange the curriculum and the KAPT encourages the universities about following the educational standard.
This study investigated the new revised Mathematics curriculums of elementary schools in Korea and Japan at the end of the 20th century. The comparison was made especially with revising direction, purposes, and contents of elementary school mathematics curriculum in both countries. I began by comparing and confirming the ratio of instruction hours of Mathematics to the total instruction hours of all the subjects at as whole. This comparison was done of the elementary and middle school mathematics. The next part of the study was to compare in detail the purposes of revised mathematics in elementary and middle schools of both countries. Particular attentions was paid to the important revised points of Japanese elementary school Mathematics. Finally, I concluded by comparing the contents of elementary school Mathematics of the two countries. New mathematic text books in both countries having been published by revised curriculum, puts the future task in comparing, in detail, the concrete contents of each textbook.

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyse the subject organization and teaching units of middle school science curriculums and science textbooks, by studying the organization of subject matter and content scope and level of middle school science subject in South and North Korea. As a result of this study, the composition, scope, and level of content between middle school science textbooks in South and North Korea were similar. However, the study found that science education objectives, separated science curriculum subject organization, economical efficiency weighted format and organization of science subject matter, result-centered experiments, the enlightenment of Kim Ilsung and his son in North Korea science education were very far from the desirable direction of science education. Therefore, the view on level-based curriculum and organization of the science curriculum should be integrated, and preparation of student-centered organization of textbooks and expansion of science-technology-society content is needed before unification. And also, the united Korea science curriculum shouldn't simply compromise or neutralize between middle school science curriculum in South and North Korea. They should make a future-oriented plan for information and globalism society.
With the changes in the pharmacy curriculum from a 4 year program to a 6 year program in 2009, a new subject called Pharmacy Practice Experience (PPE) has been launched into the curriculum. The purpose of introducing this subject is to increase the competency of new pharmacy graduates in providing quality healthcare to the community. This study has been done, via comparison among different pharmacy schools in Canada and Korea, to ensure that the competency of future Korean pharmacists can be increased with the introduction of this subject. In general, the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) in Korea consists of 60 hours while Canada consists of 320 hours (minimum). Furthermore, the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) required in Korea is 1340 hours while Canada requires minimum of 960 hours. Specifically, comparing the Korean PPE curriculum to the PPE curriculums of University of Toronto (UT) and University of Waterloo (UW), UT and UW required a minimum of 75% and 89% direct clinical patient care experience respectively, either in hospital or community setting, compared to 45% in Korea; the remaining percentage in any of the universities can be fulfilled by taking other electives that may not require direct patient care experience. Observing these differences, it seems clear that the current PPE experience in Canada takes more of a patient focused approach than in Korea. Thus, with the recent movement in the Korean pharmacy community towards a more patient focused approach rather than a product focused approach, it would be beneficial to learn the differences between the PPE curriculums in Korea and Canada and apply any new understandings to the relatively newly introduced PPE program in Korea to further enhance the value of the new curriculum in helping to deliver quality patient care.
There seems to be a public consensus that the content of Korean mathematics textbooks is extensive and of a high level of difficulty. However, such judgment is the result of a generalization based on individual experience or on the results from comparisons of the international levels of achievement. Therefore, a more objective and stricter approach to the determination of the quantity and level of difficulty of mathematics content is necessary. For this purpose, this study has compared the content of Koreas 6th and 7th junior high school curriculums, and the Korean mathematics curriculum to textbooks of the United States, which has a considerable influence on the making of Korean mathematics textbooks. First of all, a comparison of Koreas 6th and 7th junior high school mathematics curriculums showed a slight reduction in the total quantity of content, as more content was deleted than was added in the 7th curriculum. However, given the fact that the number of hours of mathematics classes has been reduced, the reduction in content cannot be regarded as anything more than a simple reflection of the reduction in hours, proving that the 7th curriculum has not met its revision objective of reducing the content by 30%. Meanwhile, the comparison of the United States junior high school mathematics textbooks to Korea's 7th curriculum showed that the 7th grade content in the United States was much broader, encompassing content which in Korea ranged from the 2nd grade of elementary school to the 2nd year of junior high school. Therefore, on the surface, it may appear that the overall level of content in the American mathematics textbook is lower than that of the Korean. However, there are several cafes, such as statistics and probability, where certain content was more difficult and introduced at an earlier grade in the United States than in Korea. In fact, it can be said that Korea students tend to find content of the mathematics textbooks to be harder than they actually are because they are delivered as a mere aggregate of algorithms, with little consideration to its application in their everyday lives. In this respect, there is much room for improvement on the mathematics textbooks of Korea.

This research aims to review the training systems and curriculums of early childhood educators in Korea and France and seek directions to improve teachers training in Korea. To achieve the research purpose, this article compares three criteria, namely teacher training institutes, training systems, and curriculums based on the legal systems of Korea and France. Below are the summaries of the comparison. First, the training for teachers in France is carried out by the INSPÉ, the state-level single training system, for those who have bachelor's degrees. Second, the second year INSPÉ students or preliminary teachers take national teacher qualification tests. If they pass the tests, they are sent to the teaching fields as licensed teachers. Third, there are 3-year scholarship programs and support for practicums as part of the INSPÉ curriculum through the teacher support system in France to select highly qualified teachers. Fourth, the French curriculums prioritize basic knowledge skills, integration of school systems, teaching practicum experiences that are tied to the teaching fields, and research and analysis of practicum experiences.
This study investigated school mathematics curriculum of England, newly revised in 1998, focused on the 'number and algebra' domain among three major domains of the English curriculum. On the basis of its understanding, this domain was compared and analyzed with school mathematics curriculum of Korea. In doing so, this study explored its plans and procedures and established a frame of comparison for the curriculums between the two countries. The structure of the National Curriculum in England is composed of programmes of study and attainment targets. The former sets out what should be taught in mathematics at key stages 1, 2, 3, and 4 and provides the basis for planning schemes of work, and the latter sets out the knowledge, skills, and understanding that pupils of different abilities and matures are expected to have by the end of each key stage. Attainment targets are composed of eight levels and an additional level of increasing difficulty. According to the results of the present study, Korea focuses on the formal and systematic mathematical knowledge on the basis of sound understanding of certain mathematical terms or concepts. On the other hand, England tends to deal with numbers more flexibly and naturally through the aquisition of mental methods, calculator use methods, etc, and emphasizes that mathematics be realistic and useful in solving a diverse number of problems confronted in everyday life.

This study attempts to reorganize the knowledge classification system for the research fields and majors in education by designing a new classification schedule. Content analysis of the majors and curriculums in the universities and major areas of the academic professors in Korea, and the comparison with the various headings in several classification systems for research fields were carried out. Based upon the comparison with library classification systems and reviews and opinions of subject specialists in major disciplines, finally, a knowledge classification system composed of three parts - schedules, tables and a relative index - was presented. The proposed classification scheme was tested for classifying the research projects listed in the 1998 catalog of the academic research funded by Korea Research Foundation. Also, several ways for developing a more useful knowledge classification scheme to organize disciplinary information effectively and to encourage interdisciplinary research were suggested.
