The effect of alcoholic extract of Anthocephalus (A.) Cadamba Roxb. was evaluated in experimental models of pain and ulcer. Hot tail flick test, hot plate test and acetic acid induced writhing test were employed for evaluating the peripheral as well as central analgesic mechanism exerted by the extracts. Gastroprotective activity was examined by HCl and ethanol induced gastric damage test. Test group received crude extract 500 mg/kg showed maximum time needed for the response against thermal stimuli (6.26 ${\pm}$ 0.439 s) which is comparable to diclofenac sodium (6.56 ${\pm}$ 0.381 s) in hot tail flick method. These experimental results also followed the experimental results of hot plate test where crude extract 500 mg/kg showed maximum time needed for the response against thermal stimuli (4.74 ${\pm}$ 0.234 s) which is comparable to diclofenac sodium (5.58 ${\pm}$ 0.585 s). The crude extract at 500 and 250 mg/kg showed significant reduction in acetic acid induced writhing in mice with a maximum effect of 68.026% reduction at 500 mg/kg dose which is comparable to standard diclofenac sodium (79.93%). In gastroprotective study the extract of A. Cadamba (250 and 500 mg/kg) significantly inhibited ulceration induced by both HCl and ethanol dose dependently. Results of the study suggest that the extract possesses both analgesic and gastroprotective activity on mice.

In this study, the antioxidant, anti-xanthine oxidase, anti-melanogenic and anti-wrinkle effects of methanol (ME) and hot water (HE) extracts from the fruiting bodies of Phellinus vaninii were investigated. The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl free radical scavenging activity of 2.0 mg/mL HE (95.38%) was comparable to that of butylated hydroxytoluene (96.97%), the reference standard. The hydroxyl radical scavenging activities of ME (98.19%) and HE (97.55%) were higher than that of butylated hydroxytoluene (92.66%) at 2.0 mg/mL. Neither ME nor HE was cytotoxic to murine melanoma B16-F10 cells at 25-750 ㎍/mL. Although the xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory effects of ME and HE were significantly lower than that of allopurinol, the values were higher than 84 percent. The in vitro tyrosinase inhibitory activities of ME and HE were comparable to kojic acid at 2.0 mg/mL. The cellular tyrosinase and melanin synthetic activities of ME and HE on B16-F10 melanoma cells at 500 ㎍/mL were higher than arbutin, indicating that the inhibitory effects of arbutin on the tyrosinase and melanin synthesis were higher than those of ME and HE. The collagenase inhibitory activity of HE was comparable to EGCG at 2.0 mg/mL, however, the elastase inhibitory activity of ME and HE was lower than EGCG at the concentration tested. The study results demonstrated that the fruiting bodies of Ph. vaninii possessed good antioxidant, anti-xanthine oxidase, cell-free anti-tyrosinase, cellular anti-tyrosinase, anti-collagenase, and moderate anti-elastase activities, which might be used for the development of novel anti-gout, skin-whitening, and skin anti-wrinkle agents.

Background: The celiac plexus and splanchnic nerves are targets for neurolytic blocks for pain relief from pain caused by upper gastrointestinal tumors. Therefore, we investigated the analgesic effect of a celiac plexus block versus a splanchnic nerve block and the effects of these blocks on the quality of life six months post-intervention for patients with upper GIT tumors. Methods: Seventy-nine patients with inoperable upper GIT tumors and with severe uncontrolled visceral pain were randomized into two groups. These were Group I, for whom a celiac plexus block was used with a bilateral needle retrocrural technique, and Group II, for whom a splanchnic nerve block with a bilateral needle technique was used. The visual analogue scale for pain (0 to 100), the quality of life via the QLQ-C30 questionnaire, and survival rates were assessed. Results: Pain scores were comparable in both groups in the first week after the block. Significantly more patients retained good analgesia with tramadol in the splanchnic group from 16 weeks onwards (P = 0.005, 0.001, 0.005, 0.001, 0.01). Social and cognitive scales improved significantly from the second week onwards in the splanchnic group. Survival of both groups was comparable. Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrate that the efficacy of the splanchnic nerve block technique appears to be clinically comparable to a celiac block. All statistically significant differences are of little clinical value.
Anxiety disorders are one of the serious problems which need proper therapy devoid of side effects of presently available medicines. The present study evaluates the anxiolytic and sedative activity of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn. in Swiss Albino mice. The pet. ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn were obtained by continuous soxhlet extraction. The prepared extracts were found to be safe up to 2000 mg/kg body weight of mice in the acute toxicity study. Each extract was assessed for anxiolytic activity in Swiss Albino mice by elevated plus Maze, open field test, rota rod test and phenobarbitone induced sleeping time test. In the Elevated Plus Maze test, the pet.ether extract and chloroform extract at a dose of 50 mg/kg b.w. orally, significantly (P < 0.01) increased the number of entries and time spent in open arm comparable with standard diazepam at the dose of 10 mg/kg. b.w. p.o. In the open field test, pet. ether extract (50 mg/kg b.w. p.o.) showed significant increase (P < 0.01) in ambulation and activity in the center. Chloroform extract (50 mg/kg b.w p.o.) was significant (P < 0.05) for both ambulation and center activity. Pet. ether extract (50 mg/kg b.w. p.o) also showed significant activity (P < 0.01) in rota rod test. All the results are comparable with standard diazepam at the dose of 1 mg /kg b.w, p.o. Moreover all the extracts showed significant (P < 0.01) increase in the phenobarbitone induced sleeping time among which pet.ether showed more prominent activity (36%) comparable with control. The results revealed that, the active pet.ether extract and chloroform extract of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn is worthwhile to develop the bioactive principle for anxiolytic activity.
A series of numerical experiments are performed to examine the generation of inter-annual variations by an inertial current in an idealized semi-enclosed basin with dimension comparable to that of the East Sea. Model results indicate that the inter-annual variations dominate the kinetic energy spectrum with a peak around the time scales of 2-3 years. These variations are mostly due to the westward propagating meanders and large eddies induced by the instability of current, indicating their dependency on the eddy-resolving capacity of the model. They are generated in the interior of the basin but their energy is largely confined near the western boundary such that the east-west dimension of the basin cannot be considered as a critical factor as long as the basin covers enough western boundary region. Overall, this study suggests that the inter-annual variation observed in the East Sea is due to the meandering and large eddies induced by the instability of the current.
This study was carried out to investigate the transplanting time, optimum fertilization and harvesting method, chemical contents and physical properties of burley tobacco in paddy field. The results obtained as follows. 1. It is recommendable to transplant after March. 29 to escape the frost injury. By reducing compound fertilizer and whole plant stalk curing, advanced the. last priming date by 5-8 days. 2. Total alkaloid, total nitrogen and phosphorus contents of cured leaf was comparable to those of upland-produce(1 tobacco, but potassium and chloride contents some what high. 3. Filling power and combustibility was also comparable to upland, and filling power was increased by reducing fertilizer and whole plant stalk curing. 4. In the 20o reducing fertilizer-5 Primings volt. the yield was some what decreased, but visual quality and value per 10a were high. 5. The total raw income of tobacco and rice cropping was increased 124~170% than that of rice cropping.
This paper discusses the development of drying shrinkage reducing type superplasticizer(DSRS) by varying dosage of polycarboxylic based superplasticizer, liquid type expansive admixture and antifoaming agent. Adequate mixture proportion of each admixture is fixed at 0.3$\%$ of superplasticizer, 0.15$\%$ of liquidtype expansive admixture and 0.0005$\%$ of antifoaming agent to insure the improvement in drying shrinkage as well as comparable to the slump and air content of conventional concrete. With this mixture proportion, compressive strength of concrete using DSRS is comparable to that of conventional concrete. The use of DSRS studied by the authors has a favorable effect on reducing drying shrinkage due to the effect of water content and expansion by expansive admixture.
A bench-scale test has recently been proposed as a predictive tool to minimize the scope of pilot-scale testing or to optimize the operation of full-scale membrane filtration systems. Consequently, a bench-scale testing unit was developed for this purpose and systematically evaluated in this study. This unit was capable of accommodating commercially available, low pressure, hollow fiber (LPHF) membranes with various configurations for testing under conditions comparable to real-world applications. Reproducibility of this unit in assessing membrane fouling and microbial removal efficiency of LPHF membranes was tested and statistically comparable results were obtained. This unit serves as a useful apparatus for academic researchers and utilities to evaluate the performance of LPHF membranes used for water treatment.
We studied radiation dose in mammography through 34-46 kv range using acryl phantom. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Incident radiation was maximum with high kvp and thin added filtration. 2. Transmitted radiation by acryl phantom and its thickness were in reciprocal relationship. 3. The acryl thickness to produce comparable film density with soft tissue of breast was 6 cm. 4. The X-ray exposure for comparable density radiographs increased mammographic film more than medical x-ray film and the amount of x-ray exposure was directly proportional to the added filtration of x-ray beam. 5. The surface dose of x-ray exposure needed to produce film density of 1.0 for 6cm acryl phantom was 1,084-1,575mR in mammographic film and 476-625 mR in medical x-ray film.
In order for the international aviation community to efficiently and safely manage the gradual increase of air passenger demand, direction suggestions of airport traffic prediction based on future airport capacity requirements, airport design and infrastructure establishment is utilized by airport traffic data that is m comparable internationally. It is a global trend to pursue more efficient airport operating system structure to accept air passenger demand through more realistic comparable data in order to escape from the structure of reckless airport establishment and infrastructure composition based on passenger demand predictions referring to simple statistical data that has existed in the past. This study aimed to seek effective operational measures for the New Jeju airport scheduled to be opened in 2025 by time-series analysis. This study also analysed airport operation strategies, air traffic distribution strategies, cargo volume increase rates and its effectiveness of airports adopting the multi-airport system that have similar operational practices and geographical conditions. This study sought the most appropriate multi airport system application measures for New Jeju airport to promote efficiency and international competitiveness.
