This paper describes the process of nanoparticle synthesis by laser ablation of microparticles and consolidated sample. We have generated nanoparticles by high-power pulsed laser ablation of AI, Cu and Ag microparticles using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (wavelength 355nm, FWHM 6ns, fluence $0.8{\sim}2.0J/cm^2$). Microparticles of mean diameter $18{\sim}80{\mu}m$ are ablated in the ambient air. The generated nanoparticles are collected on a glass substrate and the size distribution and morphology are examined using a scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. The effect of laser fluence, collector position and compacting pressure on the distribution of particle size is investigated. To better understand the process of laser ablation of microparticle(LAM), we investigated the Nd: YAG laser-induced breakdown of Cu microparticle using time-resolved optical shadow images. Nanosecond time-resolved images of the ablation process are also obtained by laser flash shadowgraphy. Based on the experimental results, discussions are made on the dynamics of ablation plume.
Sand Compaction Piles (SCPs) are constructed by feeding and compacting sand into soft clay ground. Sand piles have been installed with irregular cross-sectional shapes, and mixtures of both sand and clay, which violate the design requirement of circular shape according to the replacement area ratio due to various factors, including side flow pressure. Therefore, design assumptions cannot be satisfied according to the conditions of the ground and construction and the replacement area ratio. Two case histories were collected, examined, and interpreted in order to study the effect of the shape of SCPs. The effects of the distortion of SCP shape and the mixture of sand and clay were studied with the results of large direct shear tests. The design internal friction angle was secured with the irregular cross-sectional sand piles regardless of the replacement area ratio. The design internal friction angle was secured regardless of mixed condition when the mixture of sand and clay was higher than the replacement area ratio of 65%. Therefore, systematic construction management is recommended with a replacement area ratio below 65%.
In compacting the melt-spun $Nd_{14}Fe_{76}Co_{4}B_{6}$ and $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{15}B_{7}$ magnetic powders. the difference in composition induces a different behavior of closed packing rate as a function of aspect ratio of the powders. The $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{1.5}B_{7}$ alloy having a low Co/Fe ratio (low density) shows the better green density to have an enhanced closed packing rate. An empirical power equation relating the green density with the compacting pressure was obtained such as ${\phi}(g/cm^{2})=5.2~5.6{\times}P^{0.045~0.065}(ton/cm^{2})$. The $Nd_{14}Fe_{76}Co_{4}B_{6}$ alloy having a high Nd/Fe ratio possesses much finer grain size(50~60 nm) than that of $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{1.5}B_{7}$ alloy and shows the higher coercivity($iH_{c}=14~15kOe$). The higher Nd/Fe ratio in the melt-spun Nd-Fe-Co-B alloy, where the domain wall pinning mechanism was found to be predominant, assists the formation of Nd-rich grain boundary phase acting as a pinning site. The grain boundary ranges over $12~16\;{\AA}$ thick in the Nd-Fe-Co-B alloy while it ranges over $8~12\;{\AA}$ thick in the Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B alloy.

To improve the filtration efficiency of porous materials used in filters, an extensive specific surface area is required to serve as a site for adsorption of impurities. In this paper, a method for creating a hybridized porous alloy using a powder metallurgical technique to build macropores in an Al-4 wt.% Cu alloy and subsequent surface modification for a microporous surface with a considerably increased specific surface area is suggested. The macropore structure was controlled by granulation, compacting pressure, and sintering; the micropore structure was obtained by a surface modification using a dilute NaOH solution. The specific surface area of surface-modified specimen increased about 10 times compare to as-sintered specimen that comprised of the macropore structure. Also, the surface-modified specimens showed a remarkable increase in micropores larger than 10 nm. Such a hybridized porous structure has potential for application in water and air purification filters, as well as membrane pre-treatment and catalysis.
The addition of titanium has come to produce an increase in the conductivity of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ and has been shown NTC ( negative temperature coefficient ) characteristics. Titanium enters the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ lattice substitutionally as $Ti^{4+}$,thus producing an $Fe^{2+}$ and maintaining the average charge per cation at three. Thus the $Fe^{2+}$ acts as a donor center with respect to the surrounding $Fe^{3+}$ ions. The sintering temperature, compacting pressure and sintering tire have an effect on the electrical properties. C-V and other properties have been measured on polycrystalline samples of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ containing small deviations from stoichiometry and small amounts of added Titanium. This measurment was made in the course of an investigation of the NTC mechanism in oxides whose cations have a partially filled d-level. C-V and frequency properties have been applied to the measurement of the trap barrier properties at the grain boundary. The double Schottky barrier at the grain boundary is the major cause of the NTC mechanism in NTC thermistor of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ containing N-type impurity.
A lean alloy is defined as a low alloy steel that minimizes the content of the alloying elements, while maintaining the characteristics of the sintered alloy. The purpose of this study is to determine the change in microstructure and mechanical properties due to the addition of silicon or tin in Fe-Mo-P, Fe-Mn-P, and Fe-Mo-Mn-P alloys. Silicon- or tin-added F-Mo-P, Fe-Mn-P, and Fe-Mo-Mn-P master alloys were compacted at 700 MPa and subsequently sintered under a $H_2-N_2$ atmosphere at $1120^{\circ}C$. The sintered density of three alloy systems decreases under the same compacting pressure due to dimensional expansion with increasing Si content. As the diffusion rate in the Fe-P-Mo system is higher than that in the Fe-P-Mn system, the decrease in the sintered density is the largest in the Fe-P-Mn system. The sintered density of Sn added alloys does not change with the increasing Sn content due to the effect of non-dimensional changes. However, the effect of Si addition on the transverse rupture strengthening enhancement is stronger than that of Sn addition in these lean alloys.
This study has been investigated on the milling of Aluminium Distearate (ADS) powder and characteristics of the ADS-doped UO2 pellets. As-received ADS powder of the agglomerated particles has not shown any milling effect because of heat generated during planetary milling. But the use of coolant to effectively remove heat generated during milling has been found an effective way in breaking up the agglomerates of ADS powder. The green density of the UO2 pellet decreases with the amount of ADS powder doped. Therefore, in order to get the sintered density of 95% pellet decreases with the amount of ADS powder doped. Therefore, in order to get the sintered density of 95% theoretical density, the 200 ppm ADS-doped UO2 pellet has to be pressed under higher compacting pressure of 3500~4000 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compared with the ADS-undoped UO2 pellet pressed under around 3000 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The ADS-dpoed UO2 pellet with even relatively low sintered density of 10.27 g/㎤ exhibits open porosity of 1% while open porosity of the ADS-undoped UO2 pellet is reduced to around 1% only after its sintered density increases to 10.43g/㎤. It is, therefore, concluded that doping of ADS powder significantly contributes to the decrease in open porosity of the UO2 pellet. The dilatometry of the ADS doped UO2 pellet shows the sintering rate curve with the bimodal mode, which could be attributed to a phase reaction between UO2 and ADS. The X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that there occurs not any new phase formed but the shift of the peaks. It would be expected that a phase reaction resulting in solid solution would happen in the temperature range of 130$0^{\circ}C$ to 150$0^{\circ}C$ between UO2 and ADS.
In the present study, an original spark plasma sintering-reactive synthesis (SPS-RS) method for minerallike ceramic materials based on SrAl2Si2O8 feldspar-like skeleton structure was used for the first time, promising solid-state matrices for reliable immobilization of high-energy 90Sr. The method is based on the "in-situ" reaction of a mixture of SrO, Al2O3 and SiO2 oxides when heated by a unipolar pulsed current under compacting pressure. The phase and elemental composition structure were studied. The dynamics of the consolidation of the reaction mixture of oxides was studied in the range of 900-1200 ℃. The study found the temperature of the high-speed (minutes) SPS-RS formation of single-phase SrAl2Si2O8 composition ceramic in the absence of intermediate reaction products with a relative density of up to 99.2% and compressive strength up to 145 MPa and a strontium leaching rate of 10-4g/cm2·day.

Recently it is being increased rapidly to install magnetic marker and RFID tag on the underground utility lines before backfilling to ensure effective it's management. However, due to changes an attitude and damages of sensors. By pressure and vibration during soil compacting, detecting rate is significantly reduced as well as it allows to use only one line of various pipes since it has an unique frequency. Also it is required too long time to reach to target point with an non-accurate navigational GPS receiver and hard to update existing data base with a manual input of new data in the field. To improve these problems, the researcher developed the field management system that apply with ball typed self-levelling marker which is free from the changes of attitude for sensors during compaction as well as has various radio frequency applicable to many kind of pipes and ensure fast positioning to target point using an incorporated system with PDA based DGPS receiver which allows loading a field GIS software and RFID detector. Further, it provides with viewing all of RFID data on the DGPS receiver screen directly and also input new data to existing data base in the field automatically.

Permeating injection is commonly known as an ideal type of injection in grouting reservoir embankment, yet often-combined permeating and fracturing injection grouting operation can disturb the original soil. A grouting method has been regarded as effective and developed to ameliorate the possible disturbance problem. It involves compaction grouting with low expansive pressure near the injection hole and repetitive injection and compaction with grout material that allows ideal permeating injection. This thesis develops Hybrid Grout (ie. HG grout) that allows various application in any ground condition combined together, has high fineness and low viscosity, and expands permeation injection to silty sand. It researches on the injection effect of permeable compaction grout which is done with PC packer and is a combination of HG grout and expansion agent to obtain permeation compaction effect on the area near grout injection spot by developing Permeable Compaction Type Packer(ie. PC packer). As the developed PC packer, HG grout, and and expansion agent (HI-E) are applied to reservoir embankment reinforcement grouting, possibile permeation compaction effect that satisfies reservoir embankment grouting standard is confirmed according to the research.
