  • In the context of lifelong education program for an aging society and information age, elementary school facilities are expected to accommodate various people in diverse age group and diverse physical abilities. Introduction of the 'Universal Design' concept seems inevitable in school environment in terms of public infra structure for community. However, in architectural point of view, unlike foreign examples, simply applied barrier-free and safety standards of domestic guidelines based on dimensional data does not function enough to achieve universal design in authentic manner. This study is focused on this issue and suggests the direction of improvement for architectural design guidelines. Through the comparative analysis of foreign and domestic design guidelines, two principles of universal design-'Flexibility in Use', 'Perceptile Information'- are found to be lacking in the domestic design guidelines for elementary school facilities. It is expected for government authority to develop more concrete guidelines to achieve universal design for school as a basic public space in the community.

With the mixture of those facilities, the people in the community are able to use these facilities conveniently. The students could also make the best use of the school with the well-established facilities for sport and cultural functions. With those consideration in mind, this study aims to identify the planning feature of mixed-use school. Firstly, the concept of mixed-use and the typology of the development are reviewed. The pre-condition for the design of the mixed-use school are also studied with consideration of the planning tendencies of mixed-use schools in four countries(UK, USA, Japan and Korea). Secondly, eight case schools are selected in Japan and Korea. We analyzed them in terms of following three aspects; 1) The major functions to combine with school design, 2) The spatial arrangement how different functions could be connected in horizontal and vertical order, 3) The circulation system with which students and different user are able to access separately to those function.

  • In recent years, there has been a movement to create a learning city where people can learn and enjoy what they want whenever, wherever, and whenever, so that the self-realization of individuals and the quality of life can be enhanced to improve the competitiveness of the city as a whole, It is becoming active. Many developed countries in the world are supporting projects to build learning cities by utilizing schools and public facilities, thereby providing local residents with opportunities for self-growth and solving community problems. In Korea, too, there are various programs using idle facilities. However, there is a lack of education programs for local residents and learning programs by partnership with local communities. It is when spatial and software strategies are needed to build a successful learning city. Therefore, we want to systematically organize the spatial data of the facilities that can be learned, analyze the current problems, and explore various ways to utilize them. We also analyze the programs that residents need to implement real and efficient learning cities.

  • This paper focuses on a differentiation strategy to improve educational competitiveness of education department. The reason is that education department stand now on the brink of a precipice because of low employment rate. For this, I researched on 'employment rate' and 'curriculum nature' of educational technology department of YW university and A university, lifelong education department of S university and D university, educational psychology department of SW university which are all related to pedagogy relation department recording relatively high-employment rate. Through the date, I'd like to emphasize that competitiveness of education department depends on a differentiation strategy and that strategy must be based on the influence of education with the consideration of obligation and characterization. And we find that a influence of education can be demonstrated in two aspects : a rational scheme's side and lively culture's side. In the rational scheme aspects, diversification and specialization of curriculum content considering department characteristics and curriculum management including mentoring and sense of realism are emphasized. On the side of culture scheme, positive involvement of members, outlook on the world defined by the concepts like challenge and passion to the future, a sense of community. These discussions will be a guide role on the future researches which focuses on improving competitiveness of education department.
