Effects of Family Stress on Social Adaptation of Autistic Children - Moderating Effects of Family Resilience and Social Support - (가족스트레스가 자폐성 장애아동의 사회적응에 미치는 영향 - 가족탄력성과 사회적 지지의 조절효과 검증 -)

  • This study examined relationships between the stress of families with autistic children, the social adaptation of autistic children and whether this relationship is moderated by family resilience and social support. The subjects were mothers of autistic children attending a special school for children with autistic disorder. Survey tools measured family stress, social support, and social adaptation. Family Resilience was measured by family hardiness, family coherence, family communication, problem-solving, and management strategy. Results showed that higher degree of family stress resulted in lower degree of adaptation in families of autistic children. The effectiveness of family resilience and social support as moderators between family stress and adaptation of families with autistic children was confirmed.

  • This study investigated and evaluated a method effectively promote a communication function in families with a schizophrenic patient and the patients' interaction, by a family approach using reinforcement of functional communication between patients and their parents. The subjects of the study were patients receiving treatment in Won Gwang University Mental Hospital from July 1985 to July 1986, and their families. In the experimental group, a family approach using reinforcement of functional communication twice a week was taught. Each of the six sessions took sixty minutes, during which the interviews and questionaires were carried out. The total number of patients receiving treatment in the hospital at that time, 42, were divided by a systematic method into 20families in an experimental group and 22 in a control group. The results from testing the hypotheses established in this study, to analyse the effects of family approach through reinforcement of functional communication, are as follows; The results of the test of the first hypothesis are shown in Table 1. “patients and their parents in an experimental group receiving group training in reinforcement of functional communication will show a greater degree of interaction than those of the control group” was supported. Significant differences included Main Effects p<.001, Interactions p<.001 and Explained p<.001 in the interactions of patients, and mothers. Scores were higher for the experimental group after the treatment as well as higher than the control group.

  • This main goal of this program is to prove the effectiveness of family leadership program that was developed on the theoretical basis of strengths of family life. The family leadership program comprised four steps through the FGI and qualitative interview with experts. The steps 1 and 2 were planned to help the middle-aged married women to cultivate the individual leadership by establishing visions and understanding the role. The steps 3 and 4 were set to build up the relational leadership through the communication competency and synergy creation between family. This program was applied to 15 respondents by the multidimensional promotion strategies. As a result, it was recognized that the middle-aged married women had developed the leadership that created the synergy effects by setting family visions, role and improvement of communication strategies. Overall, this study positively achieved the objective to improve the individual and relational leadership of family CEO.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate family life education for meddle-aged man. We developed family life education program for man consisting of 4 sessions, which is based on the system theory and strong family perspective. The program was designed to contribute to making sound family culture and more to make more equal relation between a couple by breaking from the sex-types identity and recognizing androgyny. After implementing a program for 4 weeks, the quantity and quality evaluation revealed that the program made the middled-aged man have a chance to recognize the importance of their family, especially the need to respect wife, to reflect family role performance and to learn the importance of communication between a couple.

The Comparative Study of Family Dynamics between Families of Problem Students and of Normal Students (문제학생가족과 정상학생가족의 가족역동 비교연구)

  • The study was done to better understand problem behavior in high school students as described in family system theory, which explains the individual’s problem within the family interactions. The purpose of the study 1. To analyze the difference in the parents’ relationship as a couple between the two groups. 2. To analyze the difference in the parent-adolecent relationship between the two groups. 3. To analyze the difference in the family function (cohesion adaptability) between the two groups. The method of the study The staudy subjects consisted of a total of 176 families (528 persons), 109 high school students (End grade) with problem behavior and their parents (problem family group) ,and 69 high school students (same grade) with normal behavior and their parents (normal family group) residing in the Seoul area. Data were gathered from structured, self-reporting qestionaires which included a Couple Relation measurement (95 items) , Parent-Adolescent communication measurement (20 items), Family Cohesion Adaptability Scale (20 items) by DavidH. Olson et al., and a behavior evaluation tool. The results of the study 1. The results as related to the hypothesis were as follows. Hypothesis 1 : “satisfaction within The couple's relationship of the parents of problem family group will be lower than the normal family group was supported significantly(t=3.07, p=.005). Hypothesis 2: “The parent-adolescent relationship of the problem family group will be more negative and problematic than the normal family group” was supported significantly(t=4.06, p=.000). Hypothesis 3: “The family function (cohesion adaptability) of the problem family group will be lower than the normal family group" was supported significantly(t=2.20, p=.022) 2. The results of related analysis were as follows 1) Analysis of a causal relation between the couple’s relationship, the parent-adolescent relationship, family function and adolescent behavior showed that the Above 3 variables influenced adolescent behavior.. In cases where couple’s relation-ship, the parent-adolescent’s relationship, the family function are the better, their adolescent’s behavior is better. 2) Discriminant analysis of the research tool showed The discriminant ability of couple’s relationship tool was 75.57%, the Parent-Adolescent communication tool, 67.05, the family adaptability cohesion tool.67. 61%. In summary, interpersonal relationships in the family subsystems are interactive and their relation influences the behaviors. of adolescents in the family. Therefore, family therapy would be a more effective method than individual therapy, to resolve negative problem for adolscents, and the research tool used in this study are very useful for family system diagnosis and nursing intervention.

  • The purposes of this research were to investigate the general trends and differences of family members' satisfaction and attitudes related to mother's employment condition, to examine the correlations between every members' employment condition, to examine the correlations between every members' interactions, and to analyze the effects of related variables. To study these objectives, three kinds of questionnaire were used and the data were obtained through 780 parents and adolescents. The jmajor findings were as follows: 1) The general trends of family member's interactions showed that the score of relationship satisfaction between mother and adolescent was higher than father and adolescent. Nonemployed mothers and their children were more traditional in attitudes. 2) The correlations of family member's interactions were significant in satisfaction. Husband's occupational attitudes were related with wife's interactions were significant in satisfaction. Husband's occupational attitudes were related with wife's satisfaction, and parentadolescent attitudes were related each other in dual earner family. 3) Mother's marital satisfaction was affected by employment condition, communication satisfaction, husband's aid, support, satisfaction for employment condition, and father's was affected by communication satisfaction and wife's marital satisfaction. Adolescent's satisfaction with father was influenced by satisfaction with mother and mother's employment condition, and sex-role attitudes were influenced by employment condition and father's support.

A Study on the Family Functioning in the Family with the Cancer Patient (암환자가족의 가족기능에 대한 조사연구)

  • This study was designed to assess the level of family function between cancer patient's families and normal families, and to seek better quality family-Mcentered nursing care. The subjects for this study were 95 ca patient's families who were selected from th university hospitals and 95 normal families who selected from 1 university hospital. The instrument used for this study was McMaster Family Assessment Device (FAD) developed by Epstein, Baldwin and Bishop (1983). The scale consisted of 53 items covering 7 areas: 'problem solving', 'communication', 'roles', 'affective responsiveness', 'affective involvement', 'behavior control', and 'general functioning'. As for data analyses, descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, ANOVA were adopted using SAS program. The result of this study was as follows: There there was no significant difference between cancer patient's family function and normal family function. Also there was no significant difference on cancer patient's family function with regard to family characteristics, disease's characteristics, and clinical stage of cancer.

The effects of married couple's sexual satisfaction on perceived family strengths (부부의 성만족이 가족건강성에 대한 지각에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This study examined the effects of married couple's sexual satisfaction on perceived family strengths based on family systems theory that the changes of family subsystem could extend itself to involve the entire family system. Methods: For this purpose, the structured survey was conducted by 151 married couples living in Jeollanam-do and Gwangju. The data was analysed by SPSS 21.0 program. Results: First, the average scores of family strengths and sexual satisfaction were a little higher than the middle. There were no differences between husbands and wives. Second, family strengths perceived by husbands were significantly affected by income satisfaction, conflicts and sexual satisfaction. In wives, education level, satisfaction with communication times, conflicts and sexual satisfaction were influential factors. Conclusion: It is necessary to pay the most attention to sexual satisfaction of couples in order to improve family strengths. In addition, it is actually required to develop various couple programs about enhancing sexual satisfaction related to the effective couple communication and problem-solving methods. It also have to imply the requirements considering characteristics of male and female, husbands and wives.

  • One of the representative side effects in current information and knowledge society is internet addiction. Nowadays single-parent families become popular due to various reasons such as increasing divorce ratio and government supports for single-parent family. National research works showed that internet addiction ratio of single-parent family children is higher than that of children of intact families. The research purpose of this paper is to investigate correlation between internet addiction and parent types. For this purpose, extensive and national survey works of NIA(National Information Society Agency of Korea) are collected and analyzed. Based on statistical analysis work, it is concluded that there is no meaningful correlation between internet addiction and parent types.

  • This study was performed in order to verify the effect of family resilience in youth suicide. The subject was the third year of high school boys in Gwang-ju, 308 questionnaires were used in the analysis. In order to derive the results of a study, we used the statistical processing technique SPSS, to perform verification of factor analysis and reliability of each variable, AMOS analysis was performed for hypothesis testing. According to the result of the study, belief systems which was sub-variables of family resiliency affect communication, and communication influence on the idea of adolescents suicide. In addition, the belief system has an indirect impact on the communication mediated suicidal thought. Thus, If we emphasize the harmony between family, suicidal thought of adolescent will be reduced. So we proposed the way to increase the belief of the family, and ways to improve communication between parents and children.
