A Study on Performance Comparison of COTS Operating Systems for a Mission Computer Using UAV Collision Avoidance Algorithm (무인기 충돌회피 알고리즘을 이용한 임무컴퓨터용 상용기성품 운영체계 성능 비교에 대한 연구)

  • There has been an increase in the number of researches on the segment for commercialization after developing avionics systems. In this paper, we have applied a commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) operating systems in an aircraft mission computer. We used UAV collision avoidance algorithms to compare the performance of COTS operating systems. The UAV collision avoidance algorithms were tested on different operating systems to compare the performances of the operating systems. The measured parameters are memory usage and processing time. We have verified that the UAV collision avoidance algorithms worked successfully and compared the performance of each operating system.

  • This paper designs a CDU(Control Disaply Unit) for commercial high precision INS(Inertial Navigation System). The CDU is designed using GUI(Graphic User Interface) programming running on Windows operating system. Since the designed CDU provides standard functions of the Windows operating systems and has a modular structure, it is easy to modify and extend. The CDU has been interfaced to the H-726 INS, from which it's usefulness can be seen.

  • In this paper, we present mSROS(Micro-Scalable Realtime Operating System) to be applied commonly to the device controller systems in the HANbit ACE256 system. The device controller systems in HANbit ACE256 system are organized as many kinds of device controller. Applying modified PPOS(Peripheral Processor Operating System)which is an operating system for devices of the TDX-10 switching system to the firmwares for them, the inefficiency in development and maintenance exists inherently. To remove the inefficiency nd to improve the performqance of firmwares, we build a common operating system platform that including multi-tasking microkernel so that the firmwares among devices can acquire convenient development and cheap cost of maintencance. Especially, building a virtual machine as a development methodology, it is possible to remove dependency from the kernel so that any kinds of commercial real-time kernels can be used in mSROS as a basic kernel. The virtual machine in mSROS is compatible with the API of SROS(Scalable Realtime Operating System), PPOS, and CROS(Concurrent Realtime Operating System).

  • Robot control software is a hard real-time system that must output the planned trajectory points within an explicit short time period. In this paper, we present a design and implementation method for robot control software using commercial real-time operating systems, RTKemel 4.5. Therefore, various robot motions, efficient user interface, and system failure check are easily implemented by using multitasking function, intertask communication mechanism, and real-time runtime libraries of RTKernel. The performance analysis of commercial real-time operating system for robot control is presented based on Timed Petri net(TPN) and we can use these results to design an optimal system.

  • The importance and cost of avionics system in the integration of an aircraft is continuously increasing. And we can expect enlarged software portion in the system integration for the more intelligent, reliable, and automated avionics system. Both military and commercial avionics community have moved toward commercial-off-the-shelf(COTS) equipment and open systems architecture not only to increase affordability but also to reduce acquisition cost, shorten development time and risk. The same concept is applied in developing avionics test system used for the avionics system integration test. In this paper, we present important topics in the development of avionics system including real-time operating system, interconnect data bus, software development methodology, software development process, and system integration test.

Study on Measuring the Performance of an Air Tool Operating at 100,000 RPM Class (100,000 RPM급으로 회전하는 에어공구의 성능측정에 관한 연구)

  • An experiment is conducted for measuring the performance of an air tool, which is operated at 100,000 RPM in an unloaded state with very low torque. A 551 kPa in gauge pressure is supply to the inlet of an air tool. An experimental apparatus is developed as a friction type dynamometer. Inlet total pressure, air flow rate, rotational speed and operating force are measured simultaneously. Torque, output power and specific output power are obtained with different rotational speeds. Those are compared with the experimental results which were obtained by a commercial dynamometer. However, no commercial dynamometers are available for measuring the torque above 30,000 RPM. In order to reduce the rotational speed, a reduction gear is applied between the air tool and the commercial dynamometer. Torque and power obtained by the commercial dynamometer show $55\%$ lower than those obtained by the developed friction type dynamometer, because the mass is added to the rotor of air tool for the braking system of the commercial dynamometer and power loss is generated by the reduction gear. From the compared results, the friction type dynamometer should be applied for measuring the performance of the air tool operating at low torque and high RPM.

  • A combat system for navy's battleship is a system of systems who supports naval indigenous operations by integrating and inter-operating many different kind of weapon and non-weapon systems, which has characteristics of large-scale complex computing system. This paper considers a characteristics of naval combat system which has been developed by domestic technology and suggests a way to improve future naval combat system in terms of computing architecture by applying commercial real-time operating system technologies. This paper also provides an evaluation criteria for combat system adaptability of real-time operating systems.

  • In recent years, for the viewpoint of environment and electric power demand for stable secure, new energy such as photovoltaic system (PV) become increasingly popular. In case of interconnecting PV to the commercial electric company, two problems will occur when operating in isclation with the other general consumers. One is doing harm to the power quality. And the other is the security problem caused by charching a part of commercial system line that has to be no voltage. In this paper, a simple modelling of distribution system and grid-connected PV system and simulation result were proposed.

  • One of the causes of malfunction of commercial vehicle is corrosion or wear. In order to prevent corrosion and wear, lubricants have to be supplied periodically. However, the period of lubrication usually depends on operator's judgment. If the period is too short, excess lubricant will cause pollution and unnecessary expenses, where as long periodic supply of lubricant might cause wear, damage and eventual breakdown. Therefore, an automatic lubrication system with predetermined interval will reduce the excessive supply of lubricating oil and prevent wear and damage. This thesis presents an automatic lubrication system which consists of a lubricant pump and an embedded controller. An automatic lubrication operating algorithm is used to operate the lubricant pump and feedback the pressure status of the system using pressure sensors. The developed system shows an efficient periodic supply of lubricant.

  • If the control system that works important job fails, economical loss occurred. Hence, to guarantee high reliability, it must be duplicated. In the case of traditional duplication mechanism, dedicated operating system with duplication functions were built. This required much development and maintenance cost. They can be saved, if we use commercial operating system and its development environment.This paper proposes a duplication mechanism for the system based on commercial 0S. The system that explained in this paper is BSC(Base Station Controller). The duplicated BSC system uses concurrent write memory for synchronization and VxWorks as an operating system. We propose how the task supporting duplication functions is executed without delay and preemption, how to synchronize standby's memory with active' s, and how to use concurrent-write memory easily with VxWorks' s partition. We also describe the takeover procedure when the active detects its hardware fault and when the standby recognizes the failure of the active.
