These studies were conducted in an attempt to investigate effects of 'Daeshiho-Tang' on the blood vessels, activities of liver enzyme and excretory action of bile juice in serum of $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits, glucose and total cholesterol levels in serum of alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. The result of these studies were summarized as follows; 1. Hypotensive ind vaso-dilatating actions due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in frogs, rabbits and dogs. 2. GOT, GPT and total cholesterol in serum of $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits showed significant depressive effects. 3. Significantly increased biliary secretary effect was noted in $CCl_4-intoxicated$ rabbits. 4. Glucose and total cholesterol levels showed markedly decraese in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. Considering the experimental studies results, it is suggested that 'Daeshiho-Tang' has therapeutic efficacy to treat febrile diseses and metabolic diseases.

Although the 'Insamyangwee-tang' has been widely used in clinical purposes in the oriental medicine, its clinical efficacy is only documentated for the cases of gastritis, gastric ulcer and enteritis, but the experimental study on these has not been undertaken. So, to investigate the clinical efficacy of 'Insamyangwee-tang' comparing with animal experiments, This study was carried out. The results showed that relaxing action was shown on the isolated ileum in mice and that strong antagonistic actions were seen on $BaCl_2$, acetylcholine and histamine induced contraction of the ileum in mice, rats, rabbits and guinea-pigs that the relaxing effect of the intestinal smooth muscle was recognized. Inhibitory effects on transport rate in the small intestine of mice. Strong antagonistic actions were seen on acetylcholine induced contraction of duodenum in rats and remarkably inhibiting actions were seen of duodenum in rats. Inhibitory action on the secretion of gastric juice and pepsin, anti-ulceration effect was recognized.

Experimental studies were made to evaluate clinical efficacy and validate Oriental medicine description of 'Banhabaikchulchenma-Tang' which has been used for controlling of headache, heartburn and giddiness, etc. The results of these studies were as follows; 1) Suppressive actions were not shown on convulsion due to spine and diencephatic causes. 2) Analgesic action was recognized in mice and rats. 3) Sedative actions due to prolongation of hypnosis time, muscle relaxation and decreasing locomotive function were noted. 4) Relaxing action was noted in the ileum of mice, also antagonistic antispasmodic action was recognized on contraction of the ileum induced by acteylcholine and $BaCl_2$. In connection with results of these studies, efficacy based on the Oriental medical reference were consistant with actual experimental results. It is considered that 'Banhabaikchulchenma-Tang' has the therapeutic effect on the headache and giddiness, etc.

The sedative, antipyretic, analgesic and anticonvulsive action, action on the isolated ileum in mice, retricting action on edema, action on blood pressure and respiration of Sipmidojuksan were evaluated. The results were as follows; sedative effects were recognized by the unbalanced effects of spontaneous momentum by wheel cage method, muscle relaxing action by rotor rod method and prolongation of sleeping hours. In mice, a significant antipyretic effect to endotoxin was recognized. Significant anagesic effects by acetic acid and Randall-Sellito method were recognized. Significant anticonvulsive effects to strychnine and picrotoxin were recognized. Spontaneous momentum of isolated ileum in mice was restricted, and relaxing effects on smooth muscle of digestive organ were noted by anti-acetylcholine, anti-barium chloride and anti-histamine effects. Significant antiedemic effects to carrageenin and histamine were recognized. Dilatation of blood vessels and decrease of blood pressure were noted.

This study was conducted about the effect of Shihogesikungang-tang on the central nervous system and cardiovascular system for the investigation of its clinical effect based on the Oriental medicinal references. The results of this study were summerized as follows; Analgesic activity as evaluated by the writhing syndrome in mice was significantly noted. A decrease effect of the spontaneous movement as estimated by wheel cage method, muscle relaxant effect as evaluated by the rotor rod method and the prolonged effect of sleeping time induced by thiopental-Na were significantly shown in mice. A antipyretic activity in febrile rats induced by the endotoxin was recognized. Anti-inflammatory effect in carrageen-induced paw edema in rats was significantly noted. Negative inotropic action on the isolated heart of frogs was noted. A vasodilative action in rabbits peripheral blood vessels and hypotension in anesthetized rabbits were remarkably recognized.

Attempts were to investigate the effects of 'Bojungikgi-tang' on the digestive system, blood pressure and diuresis. The results showed that relaxing action was shown on the isolated ileum in mice and that strong antagonistic actions were seen on $BaCl_2$, acetylcholine and histamine-induced contraction of the ileum in mice and guinea-pigs that the relaxing effect of the intestinal smooth muscle was recognized. Inhibitory effects on transport rate in the small intestine of mice and castor oil-induced catharsis in mice were noted. Inhibitory action on the secretion of gastric juice, pH ascending effect and decreasing effect of the free acidity and total acidity were recognized. Continuous hypotensive action was seen, but when the vagus nerve was cut, hypotensive action was remarkably decreased. The diuretic effect was also recognized.

To investigate the recorded efficacy in Oriental medical references and effects in clinics, experimental studies were undertaken to estimate 'Palmiwhan' to the diuretic effect in normal rats, rabbits and rats with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure and hypotensive effects on the nephrogenous hypertension in rabbits with $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly recognized in normal rats and rabbits. Increase in urinary volume, urinary $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretions were significantly shown in rats with 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure. Although plasma electrolyte and creatinine levels were little affected, plasma urea nitrogen levels were significantly elevated in normal rats and 2mg/kg $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure of rats. Although the blood pressure was not affected in normal rabbits and cats, hypotensive actions due to the diuretic effect were recognized in rabbits $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure.

Although the 'Samulanshin-Tang' has been widely used in clinical purposes in the -oriental medicine, its clinical efficacy is only documented for the case of palpitation in the Oriental medical reference. The present experiments were undertaken to investigate the clinical efficacy of 'Samulanshin-Tang' comparing effects with animal experiments and to validate its oriental medicine description. Following results were obtained; 1)Suppressive action was shown on convulsion due to cerebrocortical and diencephalic causes in Fraction I and II, but no such action was noted myelic causes in mice. 2)Sedative, analgesic and antipyretic actions were noted by Fraction III. 3)Relaxing action was shown on the isolated ileum in mice and antagonistic action was seen on acetylcholine and $BaCl_2$-induced contractions of the ilem that the direct action of the intestinal smooth muscle was recognized in mice and rats.

To investigate the effect of 'Saengkankunbi-Tang' on the liver tissue recovery in about 70% cutted rat liver, the observation on the photographing by the Gamma-camera and the electromicroscopic section against the rabbit liver induced by $CCl_4$, these studies were conducted. The results were summarized as follows; Observed on the liver tissue recovery, function regeneration and body weight increase in about 70% cutted rat liver, the recovery of liver tissue and body weight were increased with the passage of the time and also they were showed to the high increase rate in proportion to administration amount. The glucose content in the serum was found in increasing tide as compared with the control group. The alkaline phosphate activity in the serum showed the significant difference in the 10th day and 13th day as compared with the control group. The ammonia content in the blood showed the significant difference only in the 10th day. Observed on the photographing by the Gamma-camera against the rabbit liver induced by $CCl_4$, sample groups were shown to be significant recovery as compared with the control group. Observed on the electromicroscopic section, sample groups showed the control action of the nuclear destruction against the rabbit liver induced by $CCl_4$ and also they showed the control action of the expansion of glycogen and granular endothelial reticulum in cytoplasm. According to the above finding, it is presume that 'Saengkankunbi-Tang' can be applicable to the extensive treatment of liver disease.
