In Part 1, we derived robust stability conditions for an LTI interconnected to time-varying nonlinear perturbations belonging to several classes of nonlinearities. These conditions were presented in terms of positive definite solutions to LMI. In this paper we address a problem of synthesizing feedback controllers for linear time-invariant systems under structured time-varying uncertainties, combined with a worst-case H$_{2}$ performance. This problem is introduced in [7, 8, 15, 35] in case of time-invariant uncertainties, where the necessary conditions involve highly coupled linear and nonlinear matrix equations. Such coupled equations are in general difficult to solve. A convex optimization approach will be employed in this synthesis problem in order to avoid solving highly coupled nonlinear matrix equations that commonly arises in multiobjective synthesis problem. Using LMI formulation, this convex optimization problem can in turn be cast as generalized eigenvalue minimization problem, where an attractive algorithm based on the method of centers has been recently introduced to find its solution [30, 361. In the present paper we will restrict our discussion to state feedback case with Popov multipliers. A more general case of output feedback and other types of multipliers will be addressed in a future paper.

In this paper, a nonlinear model is developed using the component method in order to represent the response of steel connections under various loading conditions and temperature variations. The model is capable of depicting the behaviour of a number of typical connection types including endplate forms (extended and flush) and angle configurations (double web, top and seat, and combined top-seat-web) in both steel and composite framed structures. The implementation is undertaken within the finite element program ADAPTIC, which accounts for material and geometric nonlinearities. Verification of the proposed connection model is carried out by comparing analytical simulations with available results of isolated joint tests for the ambient case, and isolated joint as well as sub-frame tests for elevated temperature conditions. The findings illustrate the reliability and efficiency of the proposed model in capturing the stiffness and strength properties of connections, hence highlighting the adequacy of the component approach in simulating the overall joint behaviour at elevated temperature.
A numerical study using nonlinear finite element analysis is performed to investigate the behavior of isolated reinforced concrete walls subjected to combined axial force and in-plane and out-of-plane bending moments. For a nonlinear finite element analysis, a computer program addressing material and geometric nonlinearities was developed. Through numerical studies, the internal force distribution in the cross-section is idealized, and then a new design method, different from the existing methods based on the plane section hypothesis was developed. According to the proposed method, variations in the interaction curve of the in-plane bending moment and axial force depends on the range of the permissible axial force per unit length, that is determined by a given amount of out-of-plane bending moment. As the out-of-plane bending moment increases, the interaction curve shrinks, indicating a decrease in the ultimate strength. The proposed method is then compared with an existing method, using the plane section hypothesis. Compared with the proposed method, the existing method overestimates the ultimate strength for the walls subjected to low out-of-plane bending moments, while it underestimates the ultimate strength for walls subject to high out-of-plane bending moments. The proposed method can address the out-of-plane local behavior of the individual wall segments that may govern the ultimate strength of the entire wall.
In fields of controlling acoustical noises, the overall adaptive control system is nonlinear due to the loudspeaker, amplifiers, converters, and microphones, etc. and the performance of noise control is decreased by the extent of nonlinearities, so an adaptive control system compensating nonlinear distortions is needed. In this paper, a new multi-channel adaptive noise controller was proposed, which was combined with the adaptive compensator to effectively linearize nonlinear distortions in the overall adaptive control system. Through computer simulations, the proposed adaptive compensator could linearize the nonlinear distortions and the proposed noise controller had better capability of controlling the noises than the conventional LMS controller.
The focus of this paper is to develop a mathematical model for investigating the dynamic performance of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell. The model in this work is based on physical laws having clear significance in replicating the fuel cell system and can easily be used to set up different operational strategies. Simulation results display the transient behavior of the voltage within each single cell, and also within a number of such single cells combined into a fuel cell stack system. A linear as well as a nonlinear analysis of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell system(PEMFC) has been discussed in order to present a complete and comprehensive view of this kind of modeling. Also, a comparison of the two kinds of analysis has been performed. Finally, the various characteristics of the fuel cell system are plotted in order to help us understand its dynamic behavior. Results indicate that there is a considerable amount of error in the modeling process if we use a linear model of the fuel cell. Thus, the nonlinearities present in the fuel cell system should be taken into account in order to obtain a better understanding of the dynamic behavior of the fuel cell system.
In this study, an effective numerical method is introduced for nonlinear inelastic analyses of rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) frames for the first time. A steel-concrete composite fiber beam-column element model is developed that considers material, and geometric nonlinearities, and residual stresses. This is achieved by using stability functions combined with integration points along the element length to capture the spread of plasticity over the composite cross-section along the element length. Additionally, a multi-spring element with a zero-length is employed to model the nonlinear semi-rigid beam-to-column connections in CFST frame models. To solve the nonlinear equilibrium equations, the generalized displacement control algorithm is adopted. The accuracy of the proposed method is firstly verified by a large number of experiments of CFST members subjected to various loading conditions. Subsequently, the proposed method is applied to investigate the nonlinear inelastic behavior of rectangular CFST frames with fully rigid, semi-rigid, and hinged connections. The accuracy of the predicted results and the efficiency pertaining to the computation time of the proposed method are demonstrated in comparison with the ABAQUS software. The proposed numerical method may be efficiently utilized in practical designs for advanced analysis of the rectangular CFST structures.

The system performance of NRZ format in WDM transmission system with lumped dispersion management(DM) and optical phase conjugator(OPC) is compared with that of RZ format. It is confirmed that eye opening penalty(EOP) of both NRZ and RZ format in WDM transmission system having lumped DM combined with OPC are greatly improved than those in WDM system with only OPC. The optimal net residual dispersion(NRD) in the case of RZ format is decided to so small value that path-averaged dispersion coefficient become almost zero, while that in the case of NRZ format is decided to larger value, for the best improvement of overall WDM channels. It is also confirmed that EOP in the case of RZ format is more improved than that in the case of NRZ format in lumped DM with optimal NRD. This is resulted from that lumped DM combined with OPC suppress the signal distortion due to intrachannel four-wave mixing(IFWM) and intrachannel cross phase modulation(IXPM). Consequently, lumped DM combined with OPC proposed in this paper is effective technique to mitigate intrachannel nonlinearities in WDM transmitting RZ format.

In this paper, we investigate the performance limitations of SubCarrier Multiplexed(SCM) WDM systems using optical Double-Side Band(DSB) modulated 16 QAM signals. The Bit-Error Rate(BER) performance is evaluated under various optical transmission links including the effects of the dispersion and fiber nonlinearities such as SPM(Self-Phase Modulation) and XPM(cross-phase modulation). After simulation of SCM-WDM systems, the dominant factors determining the entire system performance are appeared to be the nonlinearity of MZ(Mach-Zehnder) modulator and the SCM channel spacing. The BER performance of subcarrier channels in the higher frequencies was degraded with the large dispersion effect only, however, the performance was improved a little with a combined effect of fiber dispersion and nonlinear effect when the hish fiber launching power was applied.
This paper presents a numerical study on the flat plates in deep basements, subjected to out-of-plane floor load and in-plane compressive load due to soil and hydraulic lateral pressure. For nonlinear finite element analysis, a computer program addressing material and geometric nonlinearities is developed. The validity of the numerical model is established by comparison with existing experiments performed on plates simply supported on four edges. The flat plates to be studied are designed according to the Direct Design Method in Korean Building Code for Structural Concrete. Through numerical study on the effects of different load combinations and loading sequence, the load condition that governs the strength of the flat plates is determined. For the plates under the governing load condition, parametric studies are performed to investigate variations of the strength with reinforcement ratio, aspect ratio, concrete strength, and slenderness ratio. Based on the numerical results, the floor load magnification factor is proposed.

In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power with respect to optical phase conjugator(OPC) in mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) for compensating optical signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion(GVD) and nonlinearities generated in fiber by combining with lumped dispersion management(DM) technique into MSSI. Two kinds of lumped DM configuration(configuration A and configuration B) are considered and compared each other in this research. Configuration A consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned after transmitter and before receiver, respectively. Configuration B consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned before and after OPC placed at middle of total transmission link, respectively. It is confirmed that the transmission performances are more improved by the configuration A combined with MSSI than configuration B. Also, it is confirmed that the best performance of overall channels are obtained by making net residual dispersion(NRD) to have positive value in self phase modulation(SPM)-limited WDM transmission systems, irrelevant to the configuration of DM.
