  • The concrete-filled tube (CFT) column has the excellent structural performance. But it is difficult to connect with column and beam because of closed section. Its Solution, 2 members of ㄷchennel in which Internal diaphragm is installed were welded beforehand and the method of making Rectangular Steel Tube was proposed. According to upside and downside junction shape, Internal diaphragm suggested as symmetric specimen and asymmetric specimen. The upper and lower diaphragm of the Symmetric specimen used the same horizontal and The upper diaphragm of the Asymmetric specimen used the horizontal plate and the lower diaphragm used the vertically plate. In this research, 4 T-shape column to beam steps connections were tested with cyclic loading experiment in order to evaluate the structural capability of the offered connection. Symmetric specimens be a failure in 0.03rad from beam flange. And Asymmetric specimens be a failure in 0.05rad from column interface. The comparison results of All specimens shown similar to energy absorption capacity in 0.02rad.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the anchorage capacity of longitudinal bars for reinforced concrete exterior beam - column joints with steel fiber volume fractions. For this purpose, the steel fiber volume fraction was set to 0, 1, 2%, and the performance was compared with that of each other specimens. According to the test results, the maximum strength of EX-HK-NJR-0 decreased by 13% compared with the control specimen and EX-HK-NJR-1 decreased by 3% compared to the control specimen. However, when 2% of steel fiber was mixed, the maximum strength increased about 56% compared to the control specimen. The energy dissipation capacity of EX-HK-NJR-0 (when no transverse steel bars are placed) decreased by 61% compared to the control specimen. In addition, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimens with a steel fiber content of 1% decreased by 5% and 2% increased by 94% compared to control specimen. EX-HK-NJR-1,2 and the control specimen EX-HK-JR-0 experienced yielding of the reinforcing bars at the column interface before maximum strength development. However, when the EX-HK-NJR-0, the reinforcing bars at the column interface experienced yielding after maximum strength development. Therefore, reinforcement of steel fiber is considered to reduce the required development length for yielding of steel bars.

  • Laboratory experiments were peformed to understand physical properties of soil-cement column under the influence of acidic flow including metal contaminants and its retaining capacity against metal migration. The contaminant used in this study was nitric acid with Cu and Cd. The Permeability of soil-cement column decreased when pH of the column began to drop below 12. Decreases in pH led to significant reduction of compressive strength of clayey soil-cement specimen, while relatively marginal reduction for sandy soil-cement specimen. The metal contaminants did not leachate from soil-cement column until pH of soil-cement dropped below 7∼8 for Cu and 9∼10 for Cd. Metal contaminants were precipitated and trapped inside the soil-cement column at pHs higher than those mentioned as verified with metal analysis and visual inspection. This indicated that soil-cement column not only performs well as a cut-off wall, but also helps alleviating the level of contamination of the surrounding environment.

  • A large scale resonant column testing equipment is under development. The would-be equipment is aiming to test 150mm-diameter specimens, which can contain as large a grain size as 25mm. Such a large specimen is hardly excitated with the existing fixed-free end condition because the torsional force cannot be effectively coupled to the specimen. The specimen will be rather resonated with free-free condition and the scheme is implemented with a rotational bearing installed between coil-magnet exciter and base pedestal. Presently the equipment was assembled and is under calibration with a cylindrical brass specimen.

  • This article summarizes tests conducted on two full-scale interior slab-column connections with and without partially debonded reinforcement subjected to cyclic loading. Each test specimen consisted of a 4.2m square slab with a 355mm square column protruding 1.5m above and below the slab. The slab thickness was 152mm. The specimen with partially debonded reinforcement exhibited more lateral drift capacity than did the specimen with fully bonded reinforcement. With partial debonding of the flexural reinforcement, cyclic load appeared to produce less damage to the connection in the vicinity of the slab-column joint region.

  • This paper presents a strengthening method that involves the use of ferrocement jackets and chamfers to relocate plastic hinge for non-seismically designed reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joints. An experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strengthening method. Four half-scale beam-column joints, including one control specimen and three strengthened specimens, were prepared and tested under quasi-static cyclic loading. Strengthening schemes include ferrocement jackets with or without skeleton reinforcements and one or two chamfers. Experimental results have indicated that the proposed strengthening method is effective to move plastic hinge from the joint to the beam and enhance seismic performance of beam-column joints. Shear stress and distortion within the joint region are also reduced significantly in strengthened specimens. Skeleton reinforcements in ferrocement provide limited improvement, except on crack control. Specimen strengthened by ferrocement jackets with one chamfer exhibits slight decrease in peak strength and energy dissipation but with increase in ductility as compared with that of two chamfers. Finally, a method for estimating moment capacity at beam-column interface for strengthened specimen is developed. The proposed method gives reasonable prediction and can ensure formation of plastic hinge at predetermined location in the beam.

  • Depending on the damage type as well as the level of damage observed after the earthquake, certain measures should be taken for the damaged buildings. In this study, structural repairing of two different types of damaged RC beam-column assembly by carbon fiber-reinforced polymer sheets is investigated in detail as a member repairing technique. Two types of 1:1 scale test specimens, which represent the exterior RC beam-column connection taken from inflection points of the frame, are utilized. The first specimen is designed according to the current Turkish Earthquake Code, whereas the second one represents a deficient RC beam-column assembly. Both of the specimens were subjected to cyclic quasistatic loading in the laboratory and different levels of structural damage were observed. The first specimen displayed a ductile response with the damage concentrated in the beam. However, in the second specimen, the beam-column joint was severely damaged while the rest of the members did not attain their capacities. Depending on the damage type of the specimens, the damaged members were repaired by CFRP wrapping with different configurations. After testing the repaired specimens, it is found that former capacities of the damaged members were mostly recovered by the application of CFRPs on the damaged members.

  • This study evaluated fire resistance performance for polypropylene/steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete column. Full-size columns were constructed and tested with or without fibers using ISO-834 fire curve. As the result of test, non-fiber high strength concrete column specimen occurred serious spalling and indicated rapidly internal temperature increase. Specimen with polypropylene fiber occurred not spalling. Specimen with hybrid fiber occurred not spalling as well as does not propagated temperature propagation. Therefore, hybrid fiber reinforced column specimen indicated a good fire resistance performance than other cases.

  • This paper presents the experimental result of Reinforced Concrete column-steel beam joint connected by Band Plates(BP). Main parameters in the test are the shape of BP and thickness of plate. Ten interior and exterior RC column-steel beam joint specimens are designed. Cyclic loads are applied to the beam end of eight specimens (four interior specimens and four exterior specimens). To evaluate the cyclic effect, monotonic loads are acted for two specimens. All specimen showed similar failure pattern such as the plate of BP get torn after the large deformation. Even though the specimen with double cross type BP has lower strength than the specimen with single cross type BP, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimen turned out high. Thus, provided the strength of joint with double cross type to be designed to have suitable strength by increasing the thickness of plate, the joint system may show higher seismic capacity.
