Color Alteration and Acaricidal Activity of Juglone Isolated from Caesalpinia sappan Heartwoods Against Dermatophagoides spp.

  • Acaricidal effects of materials derived from Caesalpinia sappan heartwoods against Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus were assessed and compared with those evidenced by commercial benzyl benzoate and DEET. The observed responses varied according to dosage and mite species. The $LD_{50}$ values of the methanol extracts derived from C. sappan heartwoods were 6.13 and $5.44{\mu}g/cm^3$ against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus, respectively. Furthermore, the ethyl acetate fraction derived from the methanol extract was approximately 8.71 more toxic than DEET against D. farinae, and 4.73 times more toxic against D. pteronyssinus. The biologically active constituent from the ethyl acetate fraction of C. sappan heartwood extract was purified via silica gel chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the acaricidal component was analyzed by $GC-MS,\;^1H-NMR,\;^{13}C-NMR,\;^1H-^{13}C\;COSY-NMR$, and DEPT-NMR spectroscopy, and identified as juglone (5-hydroxy-l,4-naphthoquinone). Based on the $LD_{50}$ values of juglone and its derivatives, the most toxic compound against D. farinae was juglone ($0.076{\mu}g/cm^3$), followed by benzyl benzoate ($9.143{\mu}g/cm^3$) and 2methyl-l,4-naphthoquinone ($40.0{\mu}g/cm^3$). These results indicate that the acaricidal activity of C. sappan heartwoods is likely to be the result of the effects of juglone. Additionally, juglone treatment was shown to effect a change in the color of the cuticles of house dust mites, from colorless-transparent to dark brownish-black. Accordingly, as a naturally occurring acaricidal agent, C. sappan heartwood-derived juglone should prove to be quite 'useful as a potential control agent, lead compound, and house dust mite indicator.

  • ACQ 처리 목재에서 약제의 침투깊이를 확인하기 위하여 지금까지는 Cu 성분만을 대상으로 침윤도를 측정해 왔다. 본 연구에서는 Cu 이외에 ACQ의 유효성분 중에 하나인 DDAC의 침투깊이를 조사할 수 있는 DDAC 발색처리 방법을 개발하고 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. DDAC 성분은 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein 발색 지시약과 반응하여 진한 주황색으로 발색한다. 이와 같은 발색 반응은 DDAC 용액에서 뿐만 아니라 ACQ 처리 목재에서도 진행되어 DDAC가 침투되어 있는 목재 조직에서는 동일하게 주황색으로 발색한다. 본 연구를 통하여 개발된 DDAC 발색기술에 의하여 방부제 난주입성 수종인 가문비나무에서 Cu에 비하여 DDAC의 목재 침투성이 우수한 사실을 육안으로 확인할 수 있었으며, 다른 난주입성 수종에 대해서도 Cu와 DDAC의 침투성 차이를 조사할 필요가 있다.

  • 본 연구는 MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) 성격 유형이 음악 애플리케이션의 사용자 인터페이스(UI) 디자인 취향에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 온라인 설문을 통해 535명의 응답을 수집하고, Python을 사용한 ANOVA 분석을 통해 데이터를 처리하였다. 분석 결과, 어떤 MBTI 유형은 따뜻한 색조와 중성 색조의 조합을 선호하는 경향이 있으며, 이는 그들의 예술적 감각과 조화를 중시하는 성향과 일치한다. 반면에 어떤 MBTI 유형은 주로 차가운 색조나 차가운 색조와 중성 색조의 조합을 선호하는 경향을 보이는데, 이는 그들의 실용적이고 체계적인 성향을 반영한다. 또한, 우리는 UI 레이아웃 선호도 또한 성격 유형에 따라 다르다는 것을 발견했다. 어떤 MBTI 유형은 'Mostly Fluid' 모델을 선호하는 경향이 있는데, 이는 그들의 효율적이고 체계적인 성격을 반영한다. 이러한 발견은 음악 애플리케이션의 UI 디자인 시 사용자의 개인적인 성격 유형을 고려하는 것의 중요성을 강조한다.

CIELAB 색 표시계 기반 토색을 활용한 불포화토 함수비 예측 연구 (Predicting Unsaturated Soil Water Content Using CIELAB Color System-based Soil Color)

  • 본 연구는 흙의 디지털 이미지로부터 획득된 토색을 기반으로 함수비를 예측하기 위한 기초단계로서 수행되었다. 서로 다른 다섯 가지 함수비로 조성된 주문진표준사 시료를 대상으로 광조건을 아홉 번 씩 바꿔가며 디지털 이미지를 촬영했다. 디지털 이미지 프로세싱을 통해 촬영된 시료의 토색을 CIELAB 색 표시계를 기반으로 획득하고, 광조건과 함수비에 따른 토색 변화를 분석했다. 그 결과, 불포화토의 토색 L* 값은 조명의 조도와 높은 상관성을 보였고 a*와 b* 값은 조명의 색온도와 높은 상관성을 보였다. 또한 함수비가 증가하면 토색의 밝기를 나타내는 L*가 감소하고, a*와 b*는 증가하여 토색이 초록과 파랑에서 멀어지고 빨강과 노랑에 가까워졌다. 광조건 및 함수비와 토색의 회귀분석 결과를 종합해 불규칙한 광조건에서 촬영된 실리카 계열의 모래의 토색을 기반으로 함수비를 예측하는 방법을 제안했으며, 제안된 방법을 통해 최대 오차 0.29% 수준으로 함수비를 예측할 수 있음을 확인했다.

  • The color and structure of urban constructions is a factor of urban landscape and shows their characteristics. Hence the modern buildings with their materials and external appearance makes up the urban image. But still yet, it was not easy to evaluate the value of visual landscape of buildings with objective measuring method. Most of all, it depends on the subjective estimation of a few talented or high educated experts with a sense of beauty. In relation to this kind of problems, it was tried here in this study to analyse the human response of brain wave pattern (EEG) with use of SD method, while the tested persons watched the urban landscape constructed in a visual reality. The tested persons were 10 adult males and females with no color blindness and intact cognitive function. Light source with color filter was used for color environment in chamber room. The signal of EEG is analysed digitally and grouped into the $\alpha$ and $\beta$ waves. The result showed that relative power of $\alpha$ wave ratio increased in natural landscape scenary clearly. From these results it was possible to evaluate the human response, which was affected by urban color and structure stimulation and it might be useful as an indicator of visual cognition amenity toward the design of urban construction environment.

주니어 마켓 소비자의 의복행동에 대한 성격 유형적 접근 (A Study of Junior - Market Consumer Personality Types and their Effect on Clothing Behaviors)

  • This study classified consumer personality types of the junior market and examined their clothing behaviors. The subjects were composed of 283 male and 276 female high-school-age consumers. Data were collected through questionnaires. Personality types were classified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Data were analysed with the frequency, $X^2$, factor analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$, ANOVA and Duncan tests using Windows SPSS 12. There was a significant difference (P<0.001) between fashion involvement and the 8 classified personality types. In fashion involvement, the extroverted feeling type was significantly higher than the other types. In brand image orientation, the extroverted thinking type was significantly higher than the other types (P<0.05). In fashion ad-orientation, the extroverted feeing type was also significantly higher than the other types. In active or passive complaining behaviors, there was no difference. In the selection criterion for clothes of color and design and style, the extroverted feeling type was also significantly higher than the other groups (P<0.05).

Characterizations of Shell and Mantle Edge Pigmentation of a Pacific Oyster, Crassostrea gigas, in Korean Peninsula

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate color patterns of shell and mantle edge pigmentation of a Pacific oyster, C. gigas, and to estimate variance components of the two colors. A sample of 240 F0 oysters was collected from six aquaculture farms in Tongyeong, Korea to measure shell color and mantle edge pigmentation. Among the F0s, male and female individuals with black (white) shell and black (white) mantle edge were selected and mated to generate three F1 full-sib black (white) cross families (N = 265). Two and four F2 cross families (N = 286) were also produced from black and white F1 selected individuals, respectively. Variance component estimates due to residuals and families within color were obtained using SAS PROC VARCOMP procedures to estimate heritability of shell and mantle edge pigmentation. In the F0 generation, about 29% (11%) had black (white) color for both shell and mantle edge. However, in the F1 and F2 black (white) cross families, 75% (67%) and 100% (100%) of oysters had black (white) shell colors, and 59% (23%) and 79% (55%) had black (white) mantle edge, respectively. Spearman correlation coefficients between shell and mantle edge color were 0.25, 0.74, and 0.92 in F0, F1, and F2 generations, respectively, indicating that, with generations of selection process, an individual with black (white) shell color is more likely to have black (white) mantle edge pigmentation. This suggests that shell color could be a good indicator trait for mantle edge pigmentation if selection of both the colors is implemented for a couple of generations. Estimates of heritability were 0.41 and 0.77 for shell color and 0.27 and 0.08 for mantle edge pigmentation in the F1 and F2 generations, respectively, indicating that, in general, significant proportions of phenotypic variations for the shell and mantle edge colors are explained by genetic variations between individuals. These results suggest that the two color traits are inheritable and correlated, enabling effective selection on shell and mantle edge color.

  • 디지털 영상에서 색을 표현하기 위해서는 최소 세 개 이상의 색 채널이 필요하다. 하지만 디지털 카메라에서 영상을 얻기 위해 사용되는 영상 센서는 빛의 밝기 정보만을 받아들일 뿐 색 정보를 분리해낼 수 없으므로 각 화소당 세 개의 영상 센서를 배치 한 뒤 색필터를 사용하여 색 영상을 얻어내게 된다. 대다수의 디지털 카메라는 제품의 크기를 최소화 하고 제조 단가를 절감하기 위하여 단일 영상 센서 배열을 사용한다. 이런 단일 영상 센서를 통해 얻어진 영상들은 각 화소당 하나의 색 정보만을 포함하고 있기 때문에, 사람이 본래의 색으로 영상을 보기 위해서는 각 화소당 나머지 두 개의 손실된 색 정보를 복원해야 하며 이 과정을 색 필터 보간(color filter array interpolation) 혹은 디모자이킹(demosaicking) 과정이라 부른다. 본 논문에서는 두 차례에 걸친 디모자이킹 단계를 통해 여러 가지 기법을 복합적으로 사용함으로써 더 정확한 색을 복원하는 기법을 제안하고 있으며, 에지 기반 보간법, 2차 미분값을 보정값으로 사용하는 기법, 색차를 이용하는 기법, 가중치 합을 이용한 기법 등이 사용되어서 화질을 개선하고 있다. 기존의 기법들과 객관적, 주관적 비교를 수행하여 제안하는 기법이 다른 기법들에 비해 더 좋은 성능을 보여주는 것을 확인하였다.

A Liquid-Based Colorimetric Assay of Lysine Decarboxylase and Its Application to Enzymatic Assay

  • A liquid-based colorimetric assay using a pH indicator was introduced for high-throughput monitoring of lysine decarboxylase activity. The assay is based on the color change of bromocresol purple, measured at 595 nm in liquid reaction mixture, due to an increase of pH by the production of cadaverine. Bromocresol purple was selected as the indicator because it has higher sensitivity than bromothymol blue and pheonol red within a broad range and shows good linearity within the applied pH. We applied this for simple determination of lysine decarboxylase reusability using 96-well plates, and optimization of conditions for enzyme overexpression with different concentrations of IPTG on lysine decarboxylase. This assay is expected to be applied for monitoring and quantifying the liquid-based enzyme reaction in biotransformation of decarboxylase in a high-throughput way.

Acaricidal Activity and Function of Mite Indicator Using Plumbagin and Its Derivatives Isolated from Diospyros kaki Thunb. Roots (Ebenaceae)

  • Acaricidal effects of materials derived from Diospyros kaki roots against Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus were assessed using impregnated fabric disk bioassay and compared with that of the commercial benzyl benzoate. The observed responses varied according to dosage and mite species. The $LD_{50}$ values of the chloroform extract of Diospyros kaki roots were 1.66 and $0.96{\mu}g/cm^2$ against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus. The chloroform extract of Diospyros kaki roots was approximately 15.2 more toxic than benzyl benzoate against D. farinae, and 7.6 times more toxic against D. pteronyssinus. Purification of the biologically active constituent from D. kaki roots was done by using silica gel chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the acaricidal component was analyzed by GC-MS, $^1H-NMR,\;^{13}C-NMR,\;^1H-^{13}C$ COSY-NMR, and DEPT-NMR spectra, and identified as plumbagin. The acaricidal activity of plumbagin and its derivatives (naphthazarin, dichlon, 2,3-dibromo-1,4-naphthoquinone, and 2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone) was examined. On the basis of $LD_{50}$ values, the most toxic compound against D. farinae was naphthazarin $(0.011{\mu}g/cm^2)$ followed by plumbagin $(0.019{\mu}g/cm^2),$ 2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone $(0.079{\mu}g/cm^2)$, dichlon $(0.422{\mu}g/cm^2)$, and benzyl benzoate $(9.14{\mu}g/cm^2)$. Additionally, the skin color of the dust mites was changed from colorless-transparent to dark brown-black by the treatment of plumbagin. Similar results have been exhibited in its derivatives (naphthazarin, dichlon, and 2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone). In contrast, little or no discoloration was observed for benzyl benzoate. From this point of view, plumbagin and its derivatives can be very useful for the potential control agents, lead compounds, and indicator of house dust mites.
