In RFID systems, identifying the tag attached to the subject begins with the request from a reader. When the reader sends a request, multiple tags in the reader's interrogation zone simultaneously respond to it, resulting in collision. The reader needs the anti collision algorithm which can quickly identify all the tags in the interrogation zone. We propose the Anti Collision Algorithm using Parity Mechanism(ACPM). In ACPM, a collision can be prevented because the tags which match with the prefix of the reader's request respond as followings; the group of tags with an even number of 1's in the bits to the prefix + 2nd bits responds in slot '0', while the group of tags with an odd number of 1's responds in slot '1'. The ACPM generates the request prefix so that the only existing tags according to the response in the corresponding slot. If there are two collided bits in tags, then reader identify tags by the parity mechanism. That is, it decreases the tag identification time by reducing the overall number of requests.

FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) Radar can detect the distance and the velocity of forward obstacles using linearly modulated FM signal. For better performance, the RF of radar should be operated with wideband frequency linearity on 300 MHz bandwidth at 77 GHz carrier frequency. In this paper, we propose a simple method for improving frequency linearity of FMCW radar implemented with VCO. The proposed method shows that the Voltage-Frequency relation of VCO could be measured by using the modified Tx waveform of FMCW radar. Then the measured nonlinearity could be compensated using LUT(Look-up Table) with easy. It is noted that the proposed can be adopted in existing system without extra circuit.

FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) Radar is very useful for vehicle collision warning system because of the simplicity. In this work, a signal processing part of FMCW vehicle radar system is implemented with flexibility using DSP, FPGA, ADC, and DAC so that the system could adopt lots of algorithm and could be improved through road test. It is shown that the system meets basic requirements as designed, and finds some problems in road test. We briefly discuss the problem which are caused by shadow effect from overlapped target and the distortion of beat frequency from the nonlinearity of VCO and the RCS of vehicle.

In this paper, we propose a coordinator-based reader protocol that can avoid reader collisions in a passive RFID system. In a proposed protocol, unlike conventional protocols that a reader itself selects its own slot randomly to communicate with tags such as DCS, Colorwave, a coordinator reader allocates an unused slot to a reader to participate in the network and sends a current slot number. A reader allocated a slot can communicate with tags. The proposed protocol can adaptively modified to apply for multiple coordinator readers environment in a wide area. This causes reader collision problem, but can be alleviated partly by applying the frequency planning. In this way, we verifies that a RFID system using the proposed protocol is three to five times better than existing systems through the simulation.

When an RFID reader attempts to read the tags, interference might occur if the neighboring readers also attempt to communicate with the same tag at the same time or the neighboring readers use the same frequency simultaneously. These interferences cause the RFID reader collision. When the RFID reader collision occurs, either the command from the reader cannot be transmitted to the tags or the response of the tags cannot receive to the reader correctly, Therefore, the international standard for RFID and some papers proposed the methods to reduce the reader collision. Among those, Colorwave and Enhanced Colorwave is the reader anti-collision algorithm using the frame slotted ALOHA based a TDM(Time Division Multiplex) and are able to reduce the reader collision because theses change the frame size according to a collision probability. However, these can generate the reader collisions or interrupt the tag reading of other readers because the reader that collides with another reader randomly chooses a new slot in the frame. In this paper, we propose a new RFID reader anti-collision algorithm that each reader monitors the slots in the frame and chooses the slot having the minimum occupation probability when the reader collision occurs. Then we analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm using simulation tool.
The prevention of marine accidents has been a important topic in marine society for long time, and various safety policies and countermeasures have been developed and applied to prevent those accidents. In spite of these efforts, however, significant marine accidents have taken place intermittently. Ship is being operated under a highly dynamic environments, and many factors are related with ship's collision, whose factors are interacting. So, the analysis on ship's collision causes are very important to prepare countermeasures which will ensure the safe navigation. This study analysed the ship's collision data over the past 10 years(1991-2000), which is compiled by Korea Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency. The analysis confirmed that‘ship's collision’is occurred most frequently and the cause is closely related with human factor. The main purpose of this study is to analyse human factor. For this, the structure of human factor is analysed by the questionnaire methodology. Marine experts were surveyed based on major elements that were extracted from the human factor affecting to ship's collision. FSM has been widely adopted in modeling a dynamic system which is composed of human factors. Then, the structure analysis on the causes of ship's collision using FSM are performed. This structure model could be used in understanding and verifying the procedure of real ship's collision. Furthermore it could be used as the model to prevent ship's collision and reduce marine accidents.

The purpose of this study is to contribute to the prevention of ship collisions by investigating real ship collision cases and statistically analyzing causes of human error for captains and Officers of the Watch (OOW). This study encompassed a total of 109 cases for 218 vessels, which were suitable for the analysis of ship accidents between merchant ships or merchant ships and fishing boats over the 7 years from 2010 to 2016. Data was collected while classifying vessels according to type, Give-way and Stand-on vessels, along with the cause of human error. Factors causing human error were identified after focusing on the cause of each collision given by the OOW ; frequency and cross tabulation analyses were conducted using SPSS, a statistical analysis tool. As a result, the main causes of human error by an OOW in a ship collision situation were that lookout was neglected in a Give-way vessel including radar surveillance (74.3 %) or continuous observation of an opponent vessel was carried out (17.4 %). A major factor for Stand-on vessels was failure to act to avoid collision with another vessel (63.3 %). In particular, most neglect for lookout type merchant ships occurred after the opponent ship was first observed, and a common cause of lookout neglect and neglect of duty was a focus on other tasks during navigational watch time.

In the Bluetooth specification version 1.0, one specific frequency in one piconet was created depending upon the device clock and the Bluetooth native address at one specific time slot in the frequency hopping method. The basic hopping pattern was arranging the 79 ISM frequency band in pseudo-random fashion. Possible problem is the chance of collision of ownership of one specific frequency by more than 2 wireless devices when they are within the communication-active range. In this paper, we propose the adaptive frequency hopping method in order to resolve the possible problem so that more than 2 wireless devices communicates with their own client devices without being interfered. The proposed method was implemented with HDL later to be synthesized with an automatic EDA synthesizer and verified as well. The implemented adaptive frequency hopping circuit operated normally at 24MHz which will be the target clock frequency of the target Bluetooth device.

In IEEE 802.15.1 (Bluetooth) Ad-hoc networks, the frequency is resolved by the specific part of the digits of the Device clock and the Bluetooth address of the Master device in a given piconet. The piconet performs a fast frequency hopping scheme over 79 carriers of 1-MHz bandwidth. Since there is no coordination between different piconets, packet collisions may occur if two piconets are located near one another. In this paper, we proposed a software/hardware co-design of an adaptive frequency decision mechanism so that more than two different kinds of wireless devices can stay connected without frequency collision. Suggested method was implemented with C program and HDL (Hardware Description Language) and automatically synthesized and laid out. The adaptive frequency hopping circuit was implemented in a prototype and showed its operation at 24MHz correctly.

When there are many tags using the same frequency around the reader in RFID system, they disturb each other and in the end their response cannot be received by the reader. To solve this disturbance and fast identify the tags, the anti-collision algorithm, which is the core technology in RFID system, is needed. We propose two ALOHA-type Dynamic Framed Slotted ALOHA(DFS-ALOHA) algorithms using Dynamic Slot Allocation(DSA), which dynamically allocates the frame size in accordance with the number of tags and Tag Estimation Method(TEM), which estimates the number of tags around the reader. We also compare the performance of the proposed DFS-ALOHA algorithms with that of the conventional Framed Slotted ALOHA (FS-ALOHA) algorithms and the algorithms proposed by Vogt using OPNET simulation. According to the analysis, the two proposed DFS-ALOHA algorithms(DFS-ALOHA I and DFS-ALOHA II) show better performance than the conventional ALOHA-based algorithms regardless of the number of tags. Although the two proposed DFS-ALOHA algorithms show the similar performance, BFS-ALOHA ll is better because it is easier to be implemented in the system and the complexity is lower.
