The MAC of IEEE 802.11 WLAN to control data transmission uses two control methods called DCF and PCF. The DCF uses BEB backoff algorithm based on CSMA/CA. The BEB backoff algorithm shows excellent performance relatively in situation that competition between stations is less, but its performance is decreases as the competition increases. This paper proposes and analyses mathematically an enhanced backoff algorithm. To reduce the collision probability, the proposed algorithm increases the contention window to maximum after collision and decreases the contention window smoothly after successful transmission. To prove efficiency of proposed algorithm, simulations are conducted and analyzed.
Ultra-high-frequency radio-frequency identification (UHF RFID) is widely applied in different industries. The Frame Slotted ALOHA in EPC C1G2 suffers severe collisions that limit the efficiency of tag recognition. An efficient full-duplex anti-collision scheme is proposed to reduce the rate of collision by coordinating the transmitting process of CDMA UWB uplink and UHF downlink. The relevant mathematical models are built to analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. Through simulation, some important findings are gained. The maximum number of identified tags in one slot is g/e (g is the number of PN codes and e is Euler's constant) when the number of tags is equal to mg (m is the number of slots). Unlike the Frame Slotted ALOHA, even if the frame size is small and the number of tags is large, there aren't too many collisions if the number of PN codes is large enough. Our approach with 7-bit Gold codes, 15-bit Gold codes, or 31-bit Gold codes operates 1.4 times, 1.7 times, or 3 times faster than the CDMA Slotted ALOHA, respectively, and 14.5 times, 16.2 times, or 18.5 times faster than the EPC C1 G2 system, respectively. More than 2,000 tags can be processed within 300 ms in our approach.

In this paper, MAC(Medium Access Control) algorithm for the IEEE 802.11 DCF(Distributed Coordination Function) improving the performance is proposed and analyzed mathematically. The MAC of IEEE 802.11 WLAN to control data transmission uses two control methods called DCF and PCF(Point Coordination Function). The DCF controls the transmission based on CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance). The DCF shows excellent performance relatively in situation that competition station is less but has a problem that performance is fallen from throughput and delay viewpoint in situation that competition station is increased. This paper proposes an enhanced DCF algorithm that increases the CW to maximal CW after collision and decreases the CW smoothly after successful transmission in order to reduce the collision probability by utilizing the current status information of WLAN. To prove efficiency of proposed algorithm, a lots of simulations are conducted and analyzed.
The crash cushion has drawn a great attention because of its versatility, efficiency and simplicity in reducing the mortality and damages from traffic accidents. However, the existing cushion systems are high priced or have limited functions. The purpose of the study was to devise an improved crash cushion which can offer higher safety compared to the available ones at present. In addition, the conformity of the cushion with the facility standards was assessed through computer simulation for collision with vehicles. The novel cushion system adopts the used tires as shock absorber, which can not only secure cushioning effect but also reduce the production cost. Moreover, it is highly durable and easy to maintain and repair the damaged parts. According to the simulation using BARRIER VII program, the novel cushion system showed PHD of 17.4 g and 10.1 g for a frontal collision and a side collision, respectively. Based on the results, it could be concluded that the novel cushion system met the test standards in the guideline for road safety facility installation and management.

Low power listening (LPL) MAC protocols based on duty-cycling mechanism have been studied extensively to achieve ultra low energy consumption in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Especially, recent ACK-based LPL schemes such as X-MAC employ strobe preambles and an early ACK, and show fair performances in communications and energy efficiencies. However, the state-of-the-art ACK-based LPL scheme still suffers from collision problems due to the protocol incompleteness. These collision effects are not trivial and make WSNs unstable, aggravate energy consumptions. In this paper, we propose two novel schemes; (i) ${\tau}$-duration CCA to mitigate the collision problem in ACK-based LPL MAC protocols. (ii) Short Preamble Counter (SPC) to conserve more energy by reducing unnecessary overhearing. We demonstrate the performance improvement of our scheme via a mathematical analysis and real-time experiments. Both analysis and experimental results confirm that our proposed scheme saves energy by up to 36% compared to the naive ACK-based LPL MAC protocol thanks to ${\tau}$-duration CCA and SPC.
Discretization errors are extremely challenging conundrums of discrete ordinates calculations for radiation transport problems with void regions. In previous work, we have presented a multi-collision source method (MCS) to overcome discretization errors, but the efficiency needs to be improved. This paper proposes a goal-oriented algorithm for the MCS method to adaptively determine the partitioning of the geometry and dynamically change the angular quadrature in remaining iterations. The importance factor based on the adjoint transport calculation obtains the response function to get a problem-dependent, goal-oriented spatial decomposition. The difference in the scalar fluxes from one high-order quadrature set to a lower one provides the error estimation as a driving force behind the dynamic quadrature. The goal-oriented algorithm allows optimizing by using ray-tracing technology or high-order quadrature sets in the first few iterations and arranging the integration order of the remaining iterations from high to low. The algorithm has been implemented in the 3D transport code ARES and was tested on the Kobayashi benchmarks. The numerical results show a reduction in computation time on these problems for the same desired level of accuracy as compared to the standard ARES code, and it has clear advantages over the traditional MCS method in solving radiation transport problems with reflective boundary conditions.

ICAO recommended that airspace monitoring and periodic safety assessments in each Contracting State ensure the stability of the airspace, since reducing the aircraft lateral and vertical separation intervals would rather increase the risk of collision. The target level of safety of the AKARA-FUKUE Corridor at the southern end of Jeju was 247×10-9. In simple comparison, this means that the risk of an aircraft collision in this area (international safety standards, 5.0×10-9) is about 50 times higher. The scope of this study is to organize the concept of terms, analyze the air traffic volume, the current status of navigational safety facility usage fees, and investigations of an aircraft collision risk in Jeju southern air corridor. Analyzing government policies and overseas evaluations, revising some of the existing contents, presenting some of the additional contents of new routes, and changing the instrument procedure for Korean-Chinese routes, change of arrive/departure route between Incheon Airport and Shanghai Airport, reduce the risk of aircraft collisions. We hope to restore airspace sovereignty, contribute to policies for the government to take the lead in solving this problem, and expect stability and operational efficiency in air traffic.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a network around a human body within 3~5m which consists of medical or non-medical device. WBAN has to satisfy many kinds of demands such as low-power, a variety of data rate and a data priority. Especially, it is hard for the nodes for monitoring vital signs to replace battery. Thus energy and channel efficiency is important because the battery power is limited. In this thesis, a novel algorithm for reducing the energy consumption is proposed. The proposed algorithm adjusts transmission period according to traffic. by means of determining transmission period by amount of data, the node can reduce energy consumption. Energy detection is performed in order to guarantee data priority before attempting to transmit. In case of failing to transmit, it is proposed that energy consumption is reduced through avoiding collision by changing priority. The comparison result shows that the proposed algorithm reduces power consumption and increasing maximum channel efficiency by avoiding collision.

When an RFID reader attempts to read tags, interference might occur if the neighboring readers also attempt to communicate with the same tag at the same time or the neighboring readers use the same frequency at the same time. These interferences cause the RFID reader collision. When the RFID reader collision occirs, either the command from the reader can not be transmitted to the tags or the response from the tags can not be received by the reader correctly. RFID reader anti-collision algorithms have been developed to reduce it. One of the best blown reader anti-collision algorithms is the Colorwave algorithm proposed by MIT. The Colorwave algorithm reduces the reader collisions by having the readers operate at different times. In Colorwave the time is divided into frames and a frame is divided into a number of slots. Each reader can access the tags using the slot time assigned to it. Depending on the probability of the interference, the colorwave adjusts the frame size to improve the efficiency. In this paper, we analyze the operations and the performance of the Colorwave algorithm and identify the problems of the algorithm. We also show that by adding some modifications to the algorithm the performance can be improved significantly.
This paper proposes a multi-resolution electrostatic potential field (MREPF) based solution to the mobile robot path planning and collision avoidance problem in 2D dynamic environment. The MREPF is an environment method in calculation time and updating field map. The large scale resolution map is added to EPF and this resolution map interacts with the small scale resolution map to find an optimal solution in real time. This approach can be interpreted with Atlantis model. The simulation studies show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
