  • In relation to shortening generation by using embryo culture of barley immature seed, it is important to find out profitable embryo age for embryo culture and to understand the relationship among embryo and other characters. Two varieties(Olbori and Dusan #12) were cultivated under two growth conditions(15/10 and 25/15$^{\circ}C$). The embryos were aseptically excised when immature seeds were collected 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 and 29 days after heading and cultured on $B_5$ medium. On the 21st day after heading, the length of embryos from top or middle part of spike was longer than that from bottom part. Embryos from bottom part under low temperature condition had the shortest length. Shoot length, root length and root number after embryo culture were little difference among three parts of spike under high temperature condition. Under low temperature, seedlings from bottom part of spike were inferior to those from top or middle part. Length of 29-day-old embryos under low temperature condition was similar to that of 17-day-old ones under high. Under high temperature condition, the length of 17-day-old embryo had positive correlation with kernel width, shoot length, root length and root number, but that of 21-day-old one didn't have. Seventeen-day-old embryos obtained from 25/15$^{\circ}C$ growth condition seem to be efficient to shortening generation by using embryo culture.

  • Military style is not limited to a single period but represents various image communications related to items, synthetic images and different periodical culture backgrounds. The purpose of this study is to define the communicational function of the military style beginning from the 1st world war up to the modern days, and furthermore explain the characteristics and contents of military styles in different periods by studying the nowadays various symbols of the military style in denotative and connotative aspects. The research method is documentary studies through the literature and academic paper, and examined masters' and doctors' thesis, domestic and overseas books and fashion magazines, photographs and materials collected from the internet. As a result, first, the military style is a significant fashion code in understanding modern fashion by serving as a strong communication function representing people’s ritual through various image items called the 'military look'. Second, the meaning of the image communication through military look changed throughout the different periods. During the 1st and 2nd World war the military look supported Fascism by serving as a media representing extreme patriotism and at the same time social images like functionalism, women liberation, regulation and saving. During the cold war period it was used by young progressives like hippies and punks to send an opposing message towards war and commercialism. Since then up to the 80s it was a medium representing the ‘new role of women’, who possess same social rights and power as the men. However in the 90s the military style had to go through a paradigm transition period. Since this period it got affected by the post modernism and designers, consumers alike adopted military style to create unique beauty It can also be said that it began to be used as a pure fashion code representing intertextuality. It was rather expressed as a metonymy than a metaphor and combined with elegance and feminine factor, which contrasts to the original military concept, it now represents totally new hybrids such as difference, dissemination and varieties.

  • This study was carried out from March 2013 to July 2014 with the aim of examining folk plants used in Jeollabuk-do Province. The analysis of 885 surveys collected from 59 residents of 11 cities and counties shows that a total of 154 taxa composed of 137 genera, 140 species, 2 subspecies and 12 varieties belonging to 66 families are currently used in the province. Regionally, Wanju had the greatest variety with 135 taxa, followed by Gochang with 128, Muju with 104, and Jinan with 103. In terms of their use, the plants were most frequently used as food and medicine, with 112 taxa of edible, 62 taxa of medicine, 4 taxa of ornamental, 3 taxa of dye, 3 taxa of oil, 1 taxa of aroma, 1 taxa of sap, 1 taxa of spice, and 9 taxa of miscellaneous use. Regarding plant parts, leaves were used most often, followed by fruits, stems and roots. The coincidence degree between the standard names of plants and their local names was the highest in Muju at 59.4%, followed by Wanju at 51.8%, Buan at 51.0%, Gochang at 50.4% and Jinan at 46.3%. The information on how to use folk plants was almost always orally transmitted.

  • To develop universal primers for phylogenetic analysis and species-specific marker for breeding program of kiwifruit, eighteens primers were designed from kiwifruit genome-specific repeat sequences. Seven species including twenty two varieties collected from native eastern Asia were examined using 18 to 22 mer kiwifruit target(KT) primers. among eighteen primers, we selected seven primers for phylogenetic relationship. The genus Actinidia was divided into two large groups; group I,A. arguta, A. melanandra, A. kolomikta, and A. marcrosperma, characterized by the non-hair in fruits and loaves or a few pubescences only in young stage, which belongs to the section Leiocarpae, and group II, A. chinensis, A. deliciosa, and A. eriantha, characterized by a lot of hairs only in young fruit stage and with a lot of hairs or fuzzes in leaves and branches, which belongs to the section Stellatae. Group II especially belongs to the series Perfectae of the section Stellatae and was divided into two subgroups; subgroup I containing A. chinensis and A. deliciosa, and subgroup II containing A. eriantha. In contrast, the two species, A. chinensis and A. deliciosa, which are known to have common parents, were divided into two independent subgroups with 80% of a similarity value. On the other hand, we selected KT6F for variety specific bands, KT12E primers for 'Hayward' and 'Tomuri'. KT7F or KT12F primers were useful for analysis of inheritance pattern in kiwifruit cross-breeding. We suggest that these primers will be a powerful tool for elucidating phylogenetic relationship and selection of novelty kiwifruit in a breeding program.

  • The temple and family or private owner have managed the storage space of movable cultural properties. Thus they lack the ability to manage professionally and systematically, movable cultural properties are in a poor environment and have been damaged by abundant dust and airborne fungi in the storage. In this study, we investigated microbes distribution in 10 storage or exhibition hall housing the movable cultural properties. As a results, concentration of collected microorganisms exhibited a large difference according to a storage and the D Relic Museum in Yeongam is the most contaminant storage, in which detected $2,000m^3$ or more. More than $166m^3$ of the fungi were detected in most storages of the other. We identified so many varieties of fungi such as Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp. and Cladosporium sp. existing commonly in 10 storages including wood rot fungi such as Ceriporia lacerata, Ganoderma carnosum, Myrothecium gramineum and Bjerkandera sp.. This airborne fungi may damage cultural heritages. The Guideline on a concentration of airborne fungi should be estimated and management system to the preservation environment must be provided.

  • This study was carried out to elucidate the distribution of vascular plants and their usefulness of Mt. Cheongnyangsan (870 m) in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The vascular plants that were collected 16 times 2006 and 2014 consisted a total of 614 taxa; 97 families, 330 genera, 541 species, 3 subspecies, 61 varieties and 9 forms. For the Korean endemic plants, 21 taxa were recorded and 8 taxa of Vulnerable Species (VU) and 5 taxa of Least Concerned species (LC) categorized by the Korean Forest Service as rare plants were investigated in this region. Furthermore, Ⅴ, Ⅳ, Ⅲ degrees of floristic regional indicator plants designated by the Korean Ministry of Environment included 2 taxa, 10 taxa and 18 taxa, respectively. Moreover, four species of distributional interesting plants, Aconitum austro-koreense Koidz., Allium spirale Willd., Dipsacus japonicus Miq. and Pinellia tripartita (Blume) Schott, in Mt. Cheongnyangsan were discovered by this study. Among them, edible, pasturing, medicinal, ornamental, timber, dye, fiber and unknown usefulness plants included 234 taxa, 213 taxa, 174 taxa, 62 taxa, 16 taxa, 12 taxa, 11 taxa and 167 taxa, respectively. In addition, 32 taxa of naturalized plants were observed.
