Fifth, xialibiannongxue(下利便膿血) was distinguished by the generic characters of The Cold and Hot(熱${\cdot}$寒). The last, ${\ulcorner}$Shanghanlun${\lrcorner}$ (傷寒論) was described at the view of viscera & bowels's physiology and their pathology. And shaoyin(少陰) disease was aware of kidney case and Taiyin(太陰) disease was aware of spleen case. There are two different cases of bowel diseases. • This study was wrriten in order to to help understanding of Kyeolhyung(結洶). Kyeolhyung is a syndrome of epigastric pain and fullness due to accumulation of pathogen in the chest mostly caused by too early purgation of Taiyang(太陽) channel syndrome which leads to the exterior syndrome of heat from the exterior into the interior or combines with the original excessive fluid of the chest. The knotted chest can be divided into large, small, heat and substantice, cold and substantice, water and blood Kyeolhyung. Kyeolhyung is basically treated by purgation but practically it is treated by according to its own symptom and syndromes. And we were cured of the Kyeolhyung discriminating from Zanggyul(藏結) and Bijeung(비증).

  • Among 2,373 slaughtered pigs examined for one year(March 1995 to February 1996), 1,899 pigs had visible pulmonary lesions. Prevalence rate of pulmonary lesion was examined by pathological techniques according to rearing and health managements of pig farms. The results were as follows : 1. Prevalence rate of pulmonary lesion in all-in/all-out flow farms(71.9%) was lower than that in continous flow farms(85.2%). 2. Prevalence rate of pulmonary lesion in non-infected farms with Aujeszky's disease virus and/or porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(74.4%) was lower than that in infected farms(85.5%). 3. During winter, prevalence rate of pulmonary lesion in farms with cold-control facilities(83.2%) was lower than that in farms with poor cold-control facilities.

  • As the structure, material and construction of building develop continuously, so the recent residential buildings are being large, high-rise and group. High-rise residential buildings consume a lot of energy on supplying cold and hot water. As well, high-rise residential buildings bring on discomfortable use and unexpected conditions on account of faucet outlet pressure rise and the difference of water supply pressure between top floor and bottom floor. Thus, the purpose of this study is to research on using conditions of cold and hot water supply system through survey and field measurement in high-rise residential buildings and to analyze problems.

In addition, the promising explanation on the perspective of the heat and cold syndrome could be elicited. Methods Dokhwaljihwang-tang was prescribed for an outpatient for 3 weeks without any other therapy such as acupuncture, moxibustion and Western medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, polyarthritis was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The patient's general condition such as digestion and defecation discomfort is assessed by the progress notes. Results&Conclusions Most of the various symptoms have improved by about 80 percent. It is more important to observe defecation, urine, cold symptoms and condition of hands and feet synthetically.

  • This study was aimed at investigating the syndrome differentiation and herbal medicine of Thromboangiitis Obliterans by reviewing Chinese traditional medicine's journals. The journal search was carried out using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) and PubMed from September 2009 to August 2014. Searching key words were the various combination of "Thromboangiitis Obliterans", "traditional chinese medicine", "syndrome differentiation", "herbal medicine". The final selection of 33 studies were selected and summarized by researchers. The syndrome differentiation was classified as yang deficiency, cold syncope and blood stasis. The most frequently herbs were blood-activating and stasis-resolving medicinals.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the improvement of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome and Bell's palsy after Oriental Medicine treatment Methods : Twelve patients with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome and twenty patients with Bell's Palsy who visited the Iksan Oriental Medical Hospital of Wonkwang University were evaluated. Evaluation was carried out by facial palsy grading system of Yanagihara. Results : 1. In the analysis of causes. the most common cause was 'none' with 14 cases(43.8%). stress with 8 cases(25.0%). fatigue with 4 cases(12.5%), cold and URI with 3 cases(9.0%) each. 2. In the analysis of prodrome, there was retroauricular pain in 16 cases(50.0%). headache and 'none' in 8 cases(25.0%) each. 3. There was no significant difference between RHS and Bell's palsy in evaluation score. Conclusions : RHS and Bell's palsy showed no statistical significant difference between severity of before treatment and that of after treatment.

  • Kimi(氣味) means five tastes(五味), sour, bitterness, sweetness, hot taste and astringency, and four conditions(四氣), cold, hot, warm and cool, in the oriental medicine. This is defined based on yn-yang 5 evolutive phasis(陰陽五行), and 5 evolutive phasis on the change of season. Four seasons, spring, summer, autumm, winter are clearly different but, the rainy season(長夏) is not. In the thee of Ki (氣), not worm not hot(平) is included in addition to the four conditions that is because the rainy season is not differentiated clearly. KImi have realations to the four seasons, that is, warm and hot taste is considered as spring, hot and astringency as summer, not worm not hot and sweetness as rainy season, cool and sour as autumm, and cold and bitterness as winter. 4 conditions can be classified more detail, because the changes of the seasons are continuous. In the action mechanisms, Gardeniae Fructus reduces Heat of Insufficency Type(虛熱) of the upper class of medicinal herbs(上焦), and Rhel Rhizoma reduces Exessive Heat(實熱) of the under class of them(下焦). The assay methods for four groups medicines can be developed in three ways according to the indicators as follows. First, by the indicator which defines cold-acting medicine(寒性藥) such as Rhei Rhizoma, Coptidis Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Gardeniae Fructus and is differentiated clearly from Hot-acting medicine(熱性藥) at the same time. Second, when the medicines are classified into another four groups as Drugs for Dispelling Internal Cold(溫裏藥), Drugs for Relieving Exterior Syndrome(解表藥), Drugs for Dispelling Phlegm(祛痰藥), Drugs for Regulatings Ki Flow(理氣藥), by the indicator which satisfies each group and is differentiated from other groups, at the same time. Third, by the indicator which has to be defined for each medicinal herb for four classification, individually.

  • This case study reports the effects of complex Korean medicine treatment, including Nangan-jeon, on Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) accompanied by chronic constipation and abdominal pain as the main symptoms. A 39-year-old woman diagnosed with LEMS with major symptoms, including chronic constipation and acute abdominal pain, received Western treatment. The treatment efficacy was weak and symptoms recurred, so the patient received outpatient treatment and 13 days of hospitalization for active Korean medicine treatment, including Nangan-jeon. During outpatient treatment and hospitalization, defecation frequency and the numeric rating scale (NRS) for abdominal pain and abdominal cold feeling were measured. The NRS for abdominal pain and cold decreased from 8 at admission to 3 and 0, respectively, at discharge. Defecation frequency increased significantly from once or twice a month to once every 2-3 days during hospitalization. This study results that complex Korean medicine treatment, including Nangan-jeon may be useful for treating patients who mainly complain of autonomic neurological symptoms, among patients diagnosed with LEMS. In addition, it is believed that it could be basic data applicable to more LEMS patient treatment cases.
