Objectives: The study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the questionnaire for cold-heat & deficiency-excess pattern identification of dementia and establish a new version of the questionnaire. Methods: Mean, standard deviation, skewness, internal consistency, correlation and t-test of the 26 items derived from previous study was analyzed in 20 dementia patients. The items with Cronbach-${\alpha}$ coefficient below 0.7 were modified. Thus, we established a new version of the questionnaire consisting of 20 items. Results: Cronbach-${\alpha}$ of each cold, heat, deficiency and excess questionnaire was 0.662, -0.229, 0.722 and 0.778, respectively. The correlation coefficient between cold, heat, deficiency and excess was less than 0.4 and correlation coefficient between dementia and cold, deficiency was 0.518. On t-test, the t-value of cold, deficiency and dementia was -2.196. Conclusions: The results indicated that cold-heat, deficiency-excess questionnaires showed satisfactory discriminant validity. In addition, there was correlation between dementia and cold, deficiency. Finally, we established a new version of the questionnaire for cold-heat, deficiency-excess pattern identification that consisted of 20 items.
There are several meterorolgical stresses in the winter cereal crops. Among these stresses, cold injury is one of the most important stresses for wheat and barley production in Korea. The reduction in grain yield of the wheat and barley due to cold injury has occurred almost every year in Korea. The objective of the study was to get the basic information in relation to the cold injury and to detect the method minimizing the damage of cold injury. When the air temperature was the ranges of -13$^{\circ}C$ to -15$^{\circ}C$, the soil temperature at the crown part of the plant was very stable, whereas in the ranges of -2$^{\circ}C$ to -3$^{\circ}C$ the soil surface temperature was more unstable and cold than air and subterranean temperatures. The different parts of the plant in wheat and barley possess the different levels of cold hardiness. In comparison to the cold hardiness of plant parts, the leaf and crown are the less sensitive to cold injury than root and vascular transitional zone. The type and extent of stress is determined by the redistribution pattern of water during freezing. These types from freezing processes were three types: a) Equilibrium freezing pattern b) Non -equilibrium freezing pattern, c) Non-equilibrium freezing pattern typical of tender tissues. Cold hardiness in wheat plants were more harder than barley plants at vegitative stage, but inverted at the reproductive stage. Injuries by low temperature during the seasons of barley cultivation in Korea were occured mainly in four stage; in the first and third stage, frost injury occurs, the second stage, freezing injury, and the fourth stage, chilling injury.
Introduction This study reports case series of Soyangin patients with coldness in hands and feet using Sasang constitutional medicine approach. This study suggests a value of using constitutional medicine indicators as both prognostic and diagnostic tools. Methods Among patients who visited an outpatient clinic, 7 patients were selected based on the criteria. These selected patients were exclusively treated with herbal medicine and monitored every 2 to 4 weeks retrospectively. Results The average treatment period was 8 weeks. Patients with a favorable pattern showed the improvement within 8 weeks, while those with an unfavorable pattern required more time. Discussion This study confirms the significance of Sasang constitutional medicine approach in Soyangin exterior cold syndrome with coldness in hands and feet. It also validates the current coldness in hands and feet as meaningful diagnostic indicator of Soyangin exterior cold syndrome. Furthermore, it highlights the value of original symptoms as prognostic tools.

Purpose : Among many symptoms that the climacteric patients complain of, the major symptom is heat and cold sensation of body in various pattern. So, we are intended to study patterns of climacteric patients by using D.I.T.I. Methods : We studied 55 patients visiting OO Oriental Hospital from 1st January 2008 to 31th December 2008. The patients were distributed one of patterns by inspecting D.I.T.I. And we investigated the temperature of the region of body in 5 groups. Results : There are five groups in D.I.T.I. Those are heat sensation of face pattern, heat sensation of chest pattern, cold sensation of hand & foot pattern, heat sensation of hand pattern and cold sensation of lower abdomen pattern. 22 subjects are in heat sensation of face group. 12 subjects are in heat sensation of chest group. 12 subjects are in heat sensation of hand group. 6 subjects are in cold sensation of lower abdomen group. 3 subjects are in cold sensation of hand & foot group. Conclusion : 5 patterns of D.I.T.I is showed in climacteric patients. To help oriental medical diagnosis, further studies are needed.
Objectives : In this study, we diagnosed Mibyeong group of adult by taking into Mibyeong Index consideration, and identified the correlation of a Mibyeong group with cold-heat pattern and life quality of them. Methods : The questionnaires were collected by Gallup Korea professional surveyor through face to face interviews. To analyze the differences between health and mibyeong group, we used the descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA. And multinomial logistic regression was used to generate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence interval (CI) for the differences between health and mibyeong group. Results and Conclusions : The gender composition of respondents in this study that there 545 male (49.5%) and 555 female (50.5%). The score of both cold pattern(health: $21.33{\pm}4.25$, MI 1: $22.43{\pm}4.29$, MI 2: $24.09{\pm}5.03$; post hoc test, p <0.001) and heat pattern(health: $18.4{\pm}4.01$, MI 1: $19.48{\pm}4.10$ MI 2: $19.88{\pm}4.81$; post hoc test, p <0.001) in mibyeong group is higher than the score health group. And, these result have no relevance to age. The score of both Physical component summary (PCS) and Mental component summary (MCS) in health group is higher than the score mibyeong group. Cold-heat pattern and quality of life vary significantly according to health status. This results suggest the analysis of cold-heat pattern and quality of life by health status could provide the setting of direction to promote public health depending on health status.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical research of Cold-Heat of pattern identification(PI) focused on quantitative indicators for general people in Korea, through the review of OASIS, KISS, DBpia, NDSL database. Ten clinical researches were analyzed in this study. These research gradually started from 2004 to 2009 but there was no research after 2010. Diagnosis of Cold-Heat PI all was done through a questionnaire, 7 or most researches had not used the intervention methods. Quantitative indicators related to the Cold-Heat PI mentioned in the selected 10 researches are seven, these indicators include heart rate variability(HRV), electroencephalogram, Yangdorak, respiratory index, electrogastrography, acoustic analysis index, western health test index. Related to the HRV were 3 researches, but correlation of significant indicators was a few levels(R=0.026-0.090). So far, studies regarding at the quantitative indicators of the prior the Cold-Heat PI were few, and the results of the study showed that low statistical precision, a lack of biological basis. Refer to the current state, in the future, we expect that research of quantitative indicators of scientific evidence-based through calculated and precise research concerning Cold-Heat PI be regarded as important in Korean Medicine.
