  • A face seal comprising a metal ring and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) was installed in the driving part and suspension unit. The seal serves as a bearing and simultaneously prevents entry of foreign matter from external environment as well as internal oil leakage. Subsequently, the rubber-rod ring generates axial pressure owing to rubber elasticity (hardness), performs static sealing function between housing details and outer diameter of seal, and transmits rotational torque to the rotating support ring. In order to improve the durability of NBR, which performs the above tasks, and to effectively use it in tracked-vehicle applications at extreme temperatures, this study reports a mixing design approach to enhance cold and oil resistances of NBR.

  • The concern of environmental problems by using coolant required the recycling technologies of used coolant and development of environmental-firiendly coolant Some methods have been developing. Those are the dry grinding with compressed cold air and grinding with misted coolant. The farmer is effective in the cooling effect, but has not the performance of lubrication. Otherwise, the latter can satisfy both of them and also decrease the environmental pollution. This paper tried to analyze the cooling effect and surface integral of coolant, compressed cold air, mist through measuring the temperature of grind point and grinding force. Especially, the grinding method with misted coolant according to parameters was done. So, the finding method with misted coolant proved to be effective as one of methods to decrease the environmental pollution.

  • Based on the Results of Annual Monitoring Report of Korean Marine Environment in 2006, it was shown that the coastal area of the East Sea around Korean peninsula could be clearly divided into two parts: the area of upwelling and the North Korean Cold Current. In the upwelling area, the chlorophyll-a and nutrients were increased by the influence of the decrease of temperature and the increase of salinity. These mean that the appearance of cold water due to the upwelling causes nutrient rich water and also resulted in the high productivity.

  • This work was carried out to evaluate the effect of preharvest sprayable 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP: $Harvista^{TM}$) treatment on the fruit quality attributes in cold stored 'Gamhong' (Malus domestica Borkh) apples. Preharvest sprayable 1-MCP treatment did not affect fruit qualities at harvest but titratable acidity (TA) was higher in fruit treated 10 days before harvest (DBH) than in control. During cold storage, fruit firmness and TA were higher in 1-MCP treated fruit than in control fruit as storage duration progressed, while SSC was not affected. Internal ethylene concentration (IEC) levels were not different among treatments at harvest. While the IEC level in control fruit reached to $58.3{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ after 6 month cold storage, the IEC levels in 1-MCP treated fruit ranged from 18.2 to $25.0{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$. Therefore, this result indicates that preharvest sprayable 1-MCP treatment should be another promising approach to retain fruit quality attributes in long-term cold stored 'Gamhong' apples.

  • The effect of packing methods on the green powder tea were investigated by examining quality changes during cold stroage. Packing was performed with aluminum packs having an antioxidant and a wateiproofing agent in vacuum Alumiunum packing with treatment or not showed little changes till 2 months but after this period remarkable quality degradation were found in total nitrogen, total amino acids, tannin, caffeine, chlorophyll and fatty acids. The color changes of gieeness were -16.43 in one month and -10.11 in five months, respectively. Alumininum packing in vacuum was showed extention of storage period above one month.

  • Temperature is the most influential environment parameter which affects the quality change of agricultural products in cold storage. Therefore, it is essential to keep the uniform temperature distribution in the storage room. This study was performed to analyze the air movement and temperature distribution in the forced recirculating cold storage facility and to simulate optimum storage method of green groceries using 3-D CFD(three dimensional computational fluid dynamics) computer simulation which applied the standard $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model and FVM(finite volume method). The simulation was validated by the experimental results for onion storage and the simulation model was used to simulate the temperature and velocity distribution in the storage room with reference to the change of storage method such as location of storage, no stores, bulk storage, and pallet storage. In case of no stores, internal airflow was circulated without stagnation and consequently air movement and temperature distribution were uniform. In case of bulk storage, air movement was stagnated so much and temperature distribution of onion was not uniform. Furthermore, the inner temperature of onion roses more than the initial temperature of storage. In case of pallet storage, air movement and temperature distribution of onion were so uniform that the danger of quality change was decreased.

  • This study investigated the results of insulation heat curing method using double layer bubble sheet in slab concrete and mass concrete in cold weather environment. First of all, when double bubble sheets are applied, it was shown that slab concrete was protected from early freezing by remaining between 6 and 15℃ even in case outside temperature drops -9℃ below zero until the 2nd day from piling, and in the case of mass concrete, with the maximum temperature difference between the center and surface less than 4℃, crack occurrence index was close to 2 and no hydration heat crack occurred by internal constraint. The insulation heat preservation curing method using the double bubble sheet applied in this field prevented early freezing owing to stable curing temperature management, deterring concrete strength development delay at low temperature, and obtained the needed strength. Also, it was proven that the method is highly effective and economic for cold weather concrete quality maintenance through curing cost reduction like construction period shortening and labor cost reduction, etc by reducing the process of temporary equipment installation and disassembling.

  • The Kanweoldo Deposit in the Cheonsoo Bay western coast of Korean Peninsula is considered to be influenced by severe freezing condition under cold humid environment of the last glacial age. The evidence of severe freezing in the some upper part of the fine-grained Kanweoldo Deposit is characteristically irregular wavy la-mellar structure with the interval of 2∼8mm. In particular lamina show very compacted fabrics composed of rounded or spheroidal discrete aggregates covered by silt caps. Such laminar structure and associated micro-fabrics might owe to soil freezing such as ice segregation in lens form cryophoresis pressure from growing ice and disturbance by frost-creep. Furthermore pedogenesis of cold-humid type such as gleyzation or peseudo-gleyzation also might af-fect the kanweoldo Deposit in the priod of severe cold-humid cli-mate of the Wrm. The Kanweoldo sediment and organic remnant(16,708 B.P. with error limit of 250 years) affected by severe cryogenic activities sug-gest that the paleoclimate of Late Wrm in Korea might be so cold and humid as to engender the cryogenic structure in subaerial silty and sandy silt deposits.

  • To prevent deterioration of agricultural products during cold transportation, optimized temperature control is essential. Because the control of temperature and thermal uniformity of transported products are mainly governed by cooling air flow pattern in the transportation equipment, the accurate understanding and removal of appearance of stagnant air zone by poor ventilation is key to design of optimized cooling environment. The objectives of this study were to develop simulation model to predict the airflow and heat transfer phenomena in the cold container and to evaluate the effect of fan blowing velocity on the temperature level and uniformity of products using the CFD approach. Comparison of CFD prediction with PIV measurement showed that RSM turbulent model reveals the more reasonable results than standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. The increment of fan blowing velocity improved the temperature uniformity of product and reduced almost linearly the averaged temperature of product.
