  • This study investigated the results of insulation heat curing method using double layer bubble sheet in concrete in cold weather environment. First of all, when double bubble sheets are applied, it was shown that concrete was protected from early freezing by remaining between 7℃ and 3℃ even in case outside temperature drops -7℃ below zero until the 3d day from piling. The insulation heat preservation curing method using the double bubble sheet applied in this field prevented early freezing owing to stable curing temperature management, deterring concrete strength development delay at low temperature, and obtained the needed strength. Also, it was proven that the method is highly effective and economic for cold weather concrete quality maintenance through curing cost reduction like construction period shortening and labor cost reduction, etc by reducing the process of temporary equipment installation and disassembling.

  • This study investigated the results of insulation heat curing method using double layer bubble sheet in slab concrete in cold weather environment. First of all, when double bubble sheets are applied, it was shown that slab concrete was protected from early freezing by remaining between 5 and $l0^{\circ}C$ even in case outside temperature drops $-11^{\circ}C$ below zero until the 4nd day from piling.

  • Although the accelerators are used at the early stage to control setting-time and strength of concrete when cold-weather concrete is utilized, no security of workability occurs because the early hydration makes them react rapidly. Therefore, the tablet used in previous study is applied in this study. In particular, because a small amount of fly-ash being replaced in cold weather concrete of domestic, fly-ash concrete incorporating the tablet is discussed in workability by elapsed time, early strength to ensure the development of adequate strength, and freezing-thawing resistance. As a result, both 0.5 and 1.0% tablets were found to be superior. Thus, it was verified in cold weather concrete incorporating fly-ash that workability can be secured, as well as the development of early strength to prevent early frost.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the application of double layered bubble sheet on the curing of slab and wall concrete placed at the job site in cold weather and to offer a feasibility of Concrete IoT Management System(CIMS), which is wireless sensor network developed by the authors, to manage early age quality of the concrete in terms of temperature, maturity and strength development. Test results indicated that the application of bubble sheet enhances the insulation performance, which results in an increase of the temperature by around 1~20. 6℃. It is found that CIMS can gather the temperature, maturity and strength development data from the sensors embedded from 30 m far from CIMS successfully. Predicted compressive strengths by CIMS had good agreement with measured ones within 2 MPa error level until 7 days. It is thought that the combination of the bubble sheet application for cold weather protection and CIMS for quality management tool in cold weather concreting contributes to shorten the time for the form removal by one day.

  • This study was to determine the effect of garment closures and layering systems on insulation, using a thermal movable manikin in cold weather conditions. The insulation values of ensembles with opened and closed features were measured, and those of four different layered clothing ensembles were tested while standing and while walking. Our research indicated that when there was an opening involved in design the system, insulation decreased; even a zip-out lining in the armpit affected little. If a light weight jacket and pants are put on over a fleece shirt and pants instead polyester underwear, the amount of insulation increase was 0.43 clo.

  • This paper is to report the results of mock-up test for concrete during severe cold weather. The temperature is fixed at -20℃. The mock-up specimens were fabricated simulating slab, wall and column. Heating coil with different heat capacity with 5 W and 15 W were embedded at slab specimen. Test results revealed that at -20℃, temperature dropped below 0℃ since around 70 hours. It takes 7 days to gain 45°D·D of maturity for avoiding frost damage at early age.

  • Recently, to consider financial and constructive aspect, usage of Admixture, like Blast-Furnace Slag and Fly-Ash, are increased. Also the use of cold-weather-concrete is increased. Blast-furnace Slag, a by-product of steel industry, have many advantage, to reduce the heat of hydration, increase in ultimate strength and etc. But it also reduces early-age strength, so it is prevented from using of Blast-Furnace Slag at cold-weather-concrete. In this study, for the purpose of increasing usage of Blast-Furnace Slag at cold-weather-concrete, it is investigated the strength properties of concrete subjected to frost damage for the cause of early age curing. According to this study, if early curing is carried out before having frost damage, the strength of concrete, subjected to frost damage, is recovered. And that properties is not connected with the frost cause.
