침상 코크스(needle cokes)로부터 제조된 흑연질 탄소재료의 리튬 2차전지 음극특성 (Anodic Properties of Needle Cokes-derived Graphitic Materials in Lithium Secondary Batteries)

  • 조직의 형태와 불순물의 함량이 서로 다른 2종류의 침상 코크스(needle cokes, NC)를 $2000\~3000^{\circ}C$온도범위에서 열처리한 후 이들의 흑연화도, 분쇄하였을 때의 입자크기, 크기분포 및 표면적을 측정하였고 리튬 2차전지의 음극특성을 조사하였다. 두 시료 모두 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 흑연화도가 증가하였으나, NC-B는 불순물의 영향과 분자간의 배열이 적은 모자익 조직을 포함하고 있기 때문에 흑연화도가 낮게 나타났다. 동일한 조건에서 분쇄하였을 때 입자의 평균크기는 흑연화도와 비례하였고 표면적은 반비례하였다. 흑연화도가 큰 시료일수록 입자분포의 균일도는 감소하였다 열처리 온도에 따른 음극 특성을 조사하였을 때, 2000"C까지는 결정결함을 포함하는 탄소질 층간(carbonaceous interlayers)의 감소로 인해 용량이 감소하였으나 그 이상의 온도에서는 흑연질 층간(graphitic interlayers)의 성장으로 용량이 다시 증가하였다. 분쇄한 시료는 파단면 표면에 부정합 구조가 생성되어 1.0 V이상에서 기울기를 갖는 방전곡선을 보여 주었으나, 이는 거듭된 충방전과 재열처리에 의해 0.25 V 이하에서 방전되는 흑연질 구조로 전환되었다.

  • Activated carbons are the microporous carbonaceous adsorbents which are prepared from carbon-containing source materials such as wood, coal, lignite, peteroleum and sometimes synthetic high polymers. [1-2] Activated carbons shows an ability to adsorbe hydrocarbons of the gas phase. Activated carbons are used in the purification of many kinds of gas phases like hexane, benzene, toluene, gasoline, phenol etc.[3] In this study, cokes from bitminous coal were activated for the purpose of preparing the activated carbons by steam activation. The effect of the activation temperature, time, steam concentration and flow rate on the n-butane adsorption, burn off, surface area and average pore size of the activated carbons, were investigated. The adsorption characteristics of the activated carbons for gasoline are indirectly estimated by n-butane adsorption.

제철 소결기 베드 내 연소 및 열전달 모델링 (Modeling of Combustion and Heat Transfer in the Iron Ore Sintering Bed)

  • Processes in an iron ore sintering bed can characterized as a relatively uniform progress of fuel, cokes combustion and complicated physical change of solid particles. The sintering bed was modelled as an unsteady one-dimensional progress of the fuel layer, containing two phases: solid and gas. Coke added to the raw mix, of which the amount is about 3.5% of the total weight, was assumed to form a single particle with other components. Numerical simulations of the condition in the iron ore sintering bed were performed for various parameters: moisture contents, cokes contents and air suction rates, along with the various particle diameters of the solid for sensitivity analysis. Calculation results showed that the influence of these parameters on the bed condition should be carefully evaluated, in order to achieve self-sustaining combustion without high temperature section. The model should be extended to consider the bed structural change and multiple solid phase, which could treat the inerts and fuel particles separately.

  • Numerical simulations of the condition in the iron ore sintering bed are performed for various parameters. The sintering bed is modelled as an unsteady one-dimensional progress of solid material, containing cokes and iron ore. Bed temperature, solid mass and gas species distributions are predicted for various parameters of moisture contents, cokes contents and air suction rates, along with the various particle diameters of the solid for sensitivity analysis. Calculation results show that influences of these parameters on the bed condition should be carefully evaluated for achievement of the self-sustaining combustion without the high temperature section, which can cause the excessive melting in the bed. It suggests that the model should be extended to consider the bed structural change and multiple solid phase, which can treat the inerts and fuel particles separately.

  • Up to now, only superficial studies on the combustion velocity of smokeless fuels have been reported, while it should be a basical factor on the utilization of low quality coals and some other smokeless solid fuels. It was, therefore, difficult to choose raw material coals in manufacturing gaseous fuels. With the intent to solve above problem, we have determined combustion velocity of domestic anthracites, graphites, coalites of lignite and cokes from Japanese bituminous coal. The results show that the cokes from Japanese bituminous coal which has been used as raw material in the manufacturing gaseous fuels such as water gas, or producer gas in Korea can be replaced by some sources of domestic anthracite or coalite of lignite.

Pressure Effects on the Morphology Development of C/C Composites During Carbonization

  • It is well known that the fabrication process of carbon/carbon composites is very complex. Above all, the carbonization process have major effect on the morphology development of carbon matrix. Carbon/carbon composites of 4-directional fiber preform were fabricated using the coal tar based pitch as a matrix precursor in this study. According to carbonization pressure of 1 bar, 100 bar, 600 bar, and 900 bar, morphological changes of cokes and matrix of composites were discussed. As the carbonization pressure increased to 600 bar, the flow pattern morphology of bulk mesophse was well developed. On the contrary, mosaic pattern morphology was found in case of 900 bar of carbonization pressure. It is confirmed that the carbonization pressure have profound effect on the degree of graphitization and crystal size of carbon matrix. Even in the highly densified carbon/carbon composites, large voids were still found in the matrix pocket region.

Characterization of Artificial Graphite Electrodes

  • Physical properties of artificial graphite electrodes were evaluated along three different directions; circumferential (X), radial (Y), and axial (Z) directions. Four kinds of commercial electrode products were used in this study for the evaluation; pole (AP) and nipple (AN) of manufacturer A, pole (BP) and nipple (BN) of manufacturer B. The mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties in X and Y directions were very similar to each other. In Z direction, however, the mechanical properties, including flexural strength and compressive strength, were higher, and electric resistance and thermal expansion were much lower than those in the other directions. The microstructures observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope revealed that the differences in properties by the measuring direction were caused by the preferential alignment of needle cokes along the Z direction. When comparing the properties of the electrode samples in the same direction, the mechanical properties mainly depended on the bulk density or porosity of the samples as well as preferential alignment of needle cokes.

  • 두 가지 형식의 전도성 재료를 선정하고, 이들 재료를 모르타르, 무근콘크리트 및 철근콘크리트 시험체에 각각 배합 혼입한 후, 이들 구조체에 대해 파괴예측 자기진단 재료로서의 적용 특성을 검토하였다. 본 연구에서는 자기진단 (스마트) 성능을 부여하기 위해 코크스와 미분쇄 (微粉碎) 탄소섬유분말을 전도성 재료로 선정하였다. 각 휨 하중 재하단계에서 이들 시험체에 대한 균열발생 전후의 전기저항값과의 변화 특성 시험을 통해, 이들 각 측정 인자 (전기저항, 균열, 휨 하중)의 상호 연관성을 검토하였다. 그 결과, 코크스와 미분쇄 탄소섬유분말의 전도성 재료는 복합모르타르, 무근콘크리트, 철근콘크리트 시험체의 휨 파괴 예측 자기진단에 사용이 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

국산(國産) 무연탄(無煙炭)과 폐플라스틱을 사용(使用)하는 합금철용(合金鐵用) 코크스의 제조(製造)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on Manufacturing Cokes for Ferroalloy Using Domestic Anthracite and Waste Plastic)

  • 본 연구는 플라스틱과 무연탄을 혼합한 다음 소결하여 합금철용으로 사용 가능한 코크스를 얻기 위하여 수행 되었으며, 무연탄과 플라스틱의 연소 특성 및 물성을 조사하고, 선탄기초실험을 행하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 삼척지역의 3종 무연탄 시료에 대한 물성 측정 결과 각 무연탄 시료에는 $100{\mu}m$ 이상의 회분들이 $25{\sim}30%$ 정도 함유되어 있으며 발열량은 태안시료 5,205cal/g, 장성시료 4,893cal/g, 경동시료 4,873cal/g 이었다. 2. 선탄 기초 실험 결과 3종의 국산 무연탄을 중액선별로 선탄하는 경우에 중액의 비중이 2.4이고 석탄의 입도는 $35{\sim}140mesh$로 조절하는 것이 적당할 것으로 나타났다. 3. 플라스틱의 열분해 특성상 코크스용 점결제로 사용이 가능한 플라스틱은 분말 페놀수지, 액상 페놀수지, SAN, 멜라민수지 등 이며, 공정의 단순화를 위해서는 액상 페놀수지가 가장 적합한 것으로 판단되었다.
