Recently as the electronic devices are getting to be more and more smaller, transformers are needed to be micro fabricated using MEMS technology. In this paper transformers have been fabricated and measured by depositing insulation layer to reduce the loss of eddy current and in the middle core a high permeability permalloy was designed based on the turns ratio between primary coil and secondary coil which are 1:1 transformers. (the number of turns of primary coil and secondary coil: 3/3, 5/5, 7/7). The size of the transformers including ground shield are $1mm{\times}1.5mm$, $1mm{\times}1.95mm$, $1mm{\times}2.35mm$ respectively. The line width, pitch and the height of post are 50um. Based on the measured data from the micro fabricated transformers, the 3/3 turns in the primary coil and secondary coil showed the lowest insertion loss with 1.5 dB at 480 MHz and the 7/7 turns in the primary coil and secondary coil showed the highest insertion loss with 2.5 dB at 280 MHz. Also confirmed that the bandwidth goes up as the number of turns goes down. There was some difference between the actual measured data and the HFSS simulation result. It looks as if it is an error of the difference between oxidation of copper or the permeability of SU-8.

The heat transfer coefficient and Pressure drop during gas cooling process of $CO_2$ (R-744) in inclined helical coil copper tubes were investigated experimentally. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver. a variable-speed pump. a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and a inclined helical coil type gas cooler (test section). The test section consists of a smooth copper tube of 2.45mm inner diameter. The refrigerant mass fluxes were varied from 200 to $600[kg/m^2s]$ and the inlet Pressures of gas cooler were 7.5 to 10.0 [MPa]. The heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ in the inclined helical coil tubes increases with the increase of mass flux and gas cooling pressure of $CO_2$. The pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler shows a relatively good agreement with those Predicted by Ito's correlation developed for single-phase in a helical coil tube. The local heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ agrees well with the correlation by Pitla et al. However, at the region near pseudo-critical temperature. the experiments indicate higher values than the Pitla et al. correlation. Therefore. various experiments in the inclined helical coil tubes have to be conducted and it is necessary to develop the reliable and accurate prediction determining the heat transfer and pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the inclined helical coil tubes.

The objective of this work is to develop a new design method to find optimal coils, especially the optimal coil configuration of an optical pickup actuator. In designing actuator coils, the developed Lorenz force in the coils along the desired direction should be made as large as possible while forces and torques in other directions should be made as small as possible. The design methodology we are developing is a systematic approach that can generate optimal coil configurations for given permanent magnet configurations. To consider the best coil configuration among all feasible coil configurations, we formulate the design problem as a topology optimization of a coil. The present formulation for coil design is noble in the sense that the existing topology optimization is mainly concerned with the design of yokes and permanent magnets and that the optimization of actuator coils is so far limited within shape or size optimization. Though the present design methodology applies to any problem, the specific design example considered is the design of fine-pattern tracking and focusing coils.

In constructing the multi-body dynamics model to analyze the behavior of the railway vehicle, it is very important to understand the properties of the suspension elements that constitute the suspension system. Among them, coil springs, which are mainly used in primary and secondary suspension systems, clearly show the axial stiffness in the drawings, but the lateral properties of the coil springs are not specified clearly, making it difficult to construct a dynamic analysis model. Therefore, in this paper, the model for analyzing the lateral stiffness of the coil spring is examined. A finite element method was applied to analyze the lateral stiffness of the coil spring and numerical analysis was performed by applying the coil spring lateral stiffness analysis model proposed by Krettek and Sobczak. And the test to analyze the lateral stiffness of coil spring was conducted. As a result of comparing with the test results, it was found that the results obtained by applying the lateral stiffness analysis model of Krettek and Sobczak and correcting the correction coefficient are similar to those of the test results.
We investigated fault current limitation characteristics of the resistive superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) which consisted of a Bi-2212 bulk coil and a shunt coil. The Bi-2212 bulk coil and the shunt coil were connected in parallel. The Bi-2212 bulk coil was placed inside the shunt coil to induce field-assisted quench. The fault test was conducted at an input voltage of 200 $V_{rms}$ and fault current of 12 $kA_{rms}$ and 25 $kA_{rms}$. The fault conditions were asymmetric and symmetric, and the fault period was 5 cycles. The test results show that the SFCL successfully limited the fault current of 12 $kA_{rms}$ and 25 $kA_{rms}$ to below $5.5{\sim}6.9kA_{peak}$ within $0.64{\sim}2.17$ msec after the fault occurred. Limitation was faster under symmetric fault test condition due to the larger change rate of current. We concluded that the speed of fault current limitation was determined by the speed of current rise rather than the amplitude of a short circuit current. These results show that the Bi-2212 bulk coil is suitable for distribution-class SFCLs.
This paper reports the design of solenoid in a coilgun for high velocity of projectile in a coilgun system, according to diameter of coil. Coilgun using a magnetic force means a mechanism that can control the magnetic material. When momentarily supply a large current to the solenoid instantaneous magnetic field is created around the coil, the projectile is fired by receiving a magnetic force towards the center of the coil, based on the right-hand rule of Fleming. The velocity of projectile is proportional to the magnetic force generated by the electromagnetic coil. The current affects the life of the coil and the current limit exists. Therefore, the coilgun design, which does not exceed the current limit and the magnetic forces are at the maximum, is required. In this paper, whether it is possible fire looking for the optimal number of turns according to the diameter of the coil from AWG #6 to AWG #18 for the design of the solenoid coil, and comparative analysis firing rate associated with it.
The cooling heat transfer characteristics of supercritical $CO_2$ in a helical coil gas cooler on the change of coil diameters are experimentally investigated. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable speed pump, a mass flow-meter, a pre-heater and a helical coil gas cooler (test section). The test sections are made of a copper tube which the inner diameter is 4.55 mm and the helical coil diameters are done of 26.75 mm and 41.35 mm. The mass fluxes of refrigerant are varied from 200 to 800 [$kg/m^2s$] and the inlet pressures of gas cooler are 7.5 to 10.0 (MPa). A gas cooler with helical coil diameter of 26.75 mm has larger heat transfer coefficient than that of 41.35 mm. Also, when compared with experimental data and published correlations avaliable, most of correlations are under-predicted, but Pitla published correlations avaliable, most of correlations are under-predicted, but Pitla et al.'s correlation shows a relatively good coincidence with the experimental data except the region of pseudo critical temperature.
