  • Team project learning is a type of Project-Based Learning, which is an effective learning method for developing collaborative competency and interpersonal communication skills, as well as for developing cognitive competency such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and analytical skills. This research, conducted to analyze learning activities, focuses on students' creative thinking and activities in TPBL(Team Project-Based Learning). A qualitative approach including a reflective journal based on the 6 stages of TPBL, was adopted for this purpose. In this study, 69 reflective journals on the three stages (developing a theme, researching, theme-making) of 23 undergraduate students were categorized on the basis of three criteria: divergent thinking factors, convergent thinking factors and affective factors. The results show that the participants' journals demonstrated twenty-eight activities from nine cognitive factors and nine activities from three affective factors were derived from reflect journal. This finding indicates that more appropriate instructional strategies are needed for students to enhance their creative thinking skills and activities

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical variables that predict functional and cognitive recovery at 1- and 6-month in both severe and moderate/mild traumatic brain injury patients. Methods. The subjects of this study were 82 traumatically brain-injured patients who were admitted to a Neurological Intensive Care Unit at a university hospital. Potential prognostic factors included were age, motor and pupillary response, systolic blood pressure, heart rate, and the presence of intracranial hematoma at admission. Results. The significant predictors of functional disability in severe traumatic brain injury subjects were, age, systolic blood pressure, the presence of intracranial hematoma, motor response, and heart rate at admission. In moderate/mild traumatic brain injury patients, motor response, abnormal pupil reflex, and heart rate at admission were identified as significant predictors of functional disability. On the other hand, the significant predictors of cognitive ability for severe traumatic brain injury patients were motor response and the presence of intracranial hematoma at admission, whereas those for moderate/mild patients were motor response, pupil reflex, systolic blood pressure at admission, and age. Conclusions. The results of the present study indicate that the significant predictors of TBI differ according to TBI severity on admission, outcome type, and outcome measurement time. This can be meaningful to critical care nurses for a better understanding on the prediction of brain injury patients. On the other hand, the model used in the present study appeared to produce relatively low explicabilities for functional and cognitive recovery although a direct comparison of our results with those of others is difficult due to differences in outcome definition and validation methods. This implies that other clinical variables should be added to the model used in the present study to increase its predicting power for determining functional and cognitive outcomes.

  • Purpose : This study is to examine the effects of different task-related circuit training by types of tasks on the depression and quality of life in stroke patients. Method : Forty-four chronic stroke patients were divided into a dual motor circuit task training group, a dual cognitive circuit task training group and a simple task training group. Over the course of eight weeks, before training, all the patients were identically encouraged to receive conservative physical therapy for 30 minutes, five times a week for a total of eight weeks with individual additional tasks. The dual motor circuit tasks training consisted of continuous circuit training motor tasks and additional motor tasks and the dual cognitive circuit task training consisted of tasks combining the same circuit training motor tasks and additional cognitive tasks. The simple task training consisted of natural walks on a flat terrain to the front, rear and lateral sides of the terrain. Result : As for the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life(SS-QOL) that showed significant diffe rences in comparison between the groups over the training period, the dual motor circuit task training group showed statistically significant differences in both different types of tasks at 8 weeks(p<.05). The score of Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS) decreased in three groups, in the HADS showed significant changes over the training time in the three training groups(p<.05). Conclusion : It could be seen that the practical and continuous dual circuit task training was more effective than simple task training on quality of life. In comparison between the types of dual tasks, the dual motor circuit task training group showed more effects than the dual cognitive circuit task training group. This researcher hopes that the results of this study will be actively applied as rehabilitation methods for chronic stroke patients.

  • The middle-aged body differs from the youthful body and has its own body type due to the considerable difference in body structure by age. However, most ready-made clothes for middle-aged women are designed according to the youthful body types. They are looking for the better fitness of the ready-made clothes. Thus clothing fitness is strongly required for a middle-aged women. The purpose of this study is to analyze the basic characteristics of middle-aged women's body types and to compare the real somatotype and cognitive somatotype. The subjects are 238 middle-aged women between 35 and 49 years old living in Daegu. Data are collected through anthropometric measurement and questionnaire on somatotype from September to October 2004. The results are as follows: 1. Using factor analysis, cluster analysis is carried out and the subjects of this research are classified into 4 groups. 2. Middle-aged women usually are not satisfied with their body. Particularly, they show the lowest satisfaction measurement about their abdominal girth, weight, and overall body-shape in total 16 categories. 3. As a result of body cathexis for each part, women are usually not satisfied with their body parts for themselves, regardless of real somatotype. 4. As I divide middle-aged women's somatotype by Rohrer index into the groups of three body-types, then examine real somatotype and cognitive somatotype, I get the following result : The slimmer their bodies are, the more satisfied middle-aged women we. Besides, 40.3% of middle-aged women have an incorrect and distorted understanding of their somatotype. 5. As a result of this research for ideal state of body-size, the women shows their Ideal sizes as follow: 160.55cm for ideal height, 88.73cm for ideal bust girth, 71.14cm for ideal waist girth, 90.03cm for ideal hip girth, and 53kg for ideal weight.

  • A number of nursing researchers have used the concept of health locus of control over the past decade in Korea. This article reviewed 92 nursing research papers on health locus of control conducted since 1982, and examined type of subjects, design, measurement instruments, the scores of each dimension of the HLOC, and significant variables. Most of the research were correlational in design, used an 18-item 6-point score instrument and studied the relationship between HLOC, health re-lated variables, and cognitive-emotional variables, The health related variables included health behavior, health management, preventive health behavior, compliance to treatment regimen and self care behavior The cognitive-emotional variables included depression, anxiety, stress and self- esteem. Some consistent findings are beginning to emerge. The concept of internal HLOC was positively correlated with the health related variables. But few studies found any significant correlation between powerful others HLOC and health related variables. In the case of chance HLOC, few studies reported a significant relationship. Many of the articles reported significant relationships between internal HLOC and cognitive-emotional variables, but few reported a significant relationship between powerful others or chance HLOC and cognitive -emotional variables. all experimental studies but one found that only internal HLOC was significantly changed following experimental manipulation. When the different groups of subjects such as normal persons, chronic patients, acute patients were compared in terms of mean scores, it was found that the HLOC appeared to change depending on the status of the patients. Recommendations for future research include modification of the instrument to increase the reliability and validity, study about the pattern of response suggested by Wallston and Wallston(1982) and further experimental study on changing the belief of subjects to internal HLOC.

  • The introduction of industrial intelligent robot using vision sensor has been interested in automated factory. 2D and 3D vision sensors have used to recognize object and to estimate object pose, which is for packaging parts onto a complete whole. But it is not trivial task due to illumination and various types of objects. Object image has distorted due to illumination that has caused low reliability in recognition. In this paper, recognition method of complex shape object has been proposed. An accurate object region has detected from combined binary image, which has achieved using DoG filter and local adaptive binarization. The object has recognized using neural network, which is trained with sub-divided object class according to object type and rotation angle. Predefined shape model of object and maximal slope have used to estimate the pose of object. The performance has evaluated on ETRI database and recognition rate of 96% has obtained.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors influencing the ambulatory status in hemiplegia with intracerebral hemorrhage after rehabilitation. Thirty patients with stroke who was admitted in the Chosun University Hospital, between from January 1st' 1998 and December 31st' 1998, were included in this study. The following variables as a potential predictors for ambulation were evaluated at treatment of the stroke onset; 1) general characteristics including age and sex, and 2) clinical characteristics including frequency and onset time of the stroke, affected side, duration of the treatment, time interval between onset and rehabilitation, manual muscle test of paretic limb, sitting and standing balance, proprioception, perception, cognitive function. We compared and analyzed the these variables to the two type of ambulatory status at the time of the discharge by Modified Barthel Index, independent, dependent. The data were analyzed by student t-test, Fisher-exact test, Mann Whitney-U test, $X^{2}$-test, correlation analysis(spearman's). The results were as follows; 1. Were no significantly inflenced independent ambulatory status among general characteristics. 2. Frequency of the stroke and proprioception (p<0.05), muscle strength of the lower limb, cognitive function and standing balance (p<0.01), perception and sitting balance (p<0.001) were significantly inflenced independent ambulatory status among clinical characteristics. 3. Independent Variable correlated with the ambulatory status were muscle strength of the lower limb, proprioception and sitting balance (p<0.05), standing balance, frequency of the stroke, perception and cognitive function (p<0.01). Therefore the muscle strength of the lower limb, proprioception, sitting balance, standing balance, frequency of the stroke, perception, cognitive function were the most significant influencing factors of ambulatory status after rehabilitation.

  • Objectives : Intellectual impairment in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is often associated with relatively severe cognitive dysfunction. This study was designed to investigate cognitive function using auditory and visual event-related potential P300 in children with ADHD with relatively higher and lower IQ. Methods : A total of 20 children aged 6-12 years with DSM-IV-TR diagnosis of ADHD-combined type were recruited. For 10 children with lower IQ (${\leq}$100) and 10 children with higher IQ (>100), auditory and visual P300 using oddball paradigm (target 0.2, standard 0.8, in probability) were employed. Results : No significant differences were found in P300 amplitude and latency between ADHD children with higher and lower IQ in both modalities. However, auditory P300 amplitude in the right parietal area (P8 electrode) was negatively correlated with verbal IQ in ADHD subjects (R=-.50, p<.05). Visual P300 amplitude in the left parietal area (P3 electrode) was positively correlated with performance IQ in ADHD subjects (R=.57, p<.01). Conclusion : This study suggests intellectual impairment, as evidenced by lower IQ, could not be associated with cognitive dysfunction reflected in event-related potential P300 in ADHD children. However, cognitive function reflected in intellectual subcomponents and P300 might be processed in a stimulus modality-specific and asymmetric pattern.
