아동의 리더십 증진을 위한 통합적 프로그램의 효과 (Effectiveness of a Comprehensive Program for Children's Leadership Enhancement)

  • A comprehensive program for children's leadership improvement by enhancing their self-esteem, empathy, communication competence and emotion regulation utilized core concepts and techniques or the Solution-Focused Model of Chung et al. (2005), Satir's Experiential Model(Chung, 2003), Cognitive-Behavioral Model (Kim, 2002) and problem-solving games (Chung & Kim, 2005). Twenty-six $3^{rd}$, $4^{th}$, and $5^{th}$ graders from public schools in Seoul participated in six 2.5 hour sessions and their mothers participated in two 2.5 hour sessions. All subjects received pre-, post- and follow-up tests. The results showed that children's self-esteem, empathy, communication competence, and emotion regulation increased as a result of this program and the effects lasted for at least three months after the termination of the program.

수학교육에서 시각화와 직관 (Visualization and Intuition in Mathematics Education)

  • Visualization have strong driving force that enables us to recognize abstract mathematics by direct and specific method in school mathematics. Specially, visual thinking helps in effective problem solution via intuition in mathematics education. So, this paper examines the meaning of visualization, the role of visualization in intuitive problem solving process and the methods for enhancement of intuition using visualization in mathematics education. Visualization is an useful tool for illuminating of intuition in mathematics problem solving. It means that visualization makes us understand easily mathematical concepts, principles and rules in students' cognitive structure. And it makes us experience revelation of anticipatory intuition which finds clues and strategy in problem solving. But, we must know that visualization can have side effect in mathematics learning. So, we have to search for the methods of teaching and learning which can increase students' comprehension about mathematics through visualization and minimize side aspect through visualization.

보드게임요법이 만성 정신분열병 환자의 실행능력에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Board Game Therapy on Executive Function in Hospitalized Patients with Chronic Schizophrenia)

  • Purpose: This study investigated changes in neurocognitive function over a 2-month period of board game therapy in patients with schizophrenia. Method: Twenty-one schizophrenic patients treated with board game therapy and nineteen control schizophrenic patients were evaluated with neuropsychological and clinical tests, such as the Wisconsin Card Shorting Test (WCST). The same tests were re-administered after 2 months of board game therapy. Results: At the first series of neuropsychological tests, no difference was seen in performance, demographical aspects, or clinical severity among both patient groups. After 2 months, the group receiving board game therapy showed significant improvement of WCST performances compared to the controls. However, no difference was observed in clinical symptoms between the groups. Conclusion: The results of cognitive enhancement in patients playing board games indicates that board game play, easily used in an inpatient setting, is a promising tool for executive function improvement in chronic schizophrenic patients.

Enhancement program of social information processing based on metacognitive training for Schizophrenia patients

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of applying a program to enhance social information processing ability in schizophrenic patients. We confirmed the positive effects of the program on the theories of mind and attribution style, which are the social information elements of patients, and confirmed the effect of decreasing paranoid ideation. We used the theory of mind(hinting task, the false belief task), the attributional style questionnaire(external bias, personal bias), and the paranoia scale to test the effectiveness of the program. Specifically, in theory of mind, hinting task performance was improved(t=4.14, p=.000),. The scores of personal bias(t=-7.9, p=.000) and paranoid ideation(t=-2.98, p=.004) decreased. Further research is needed to verify the effectiveness of meta - cognitive training to enhance social information processing.

만성정신분열병 환자를 위한 회복지향의 통합재활프로그램의 효과 (Effects on Recovery Oriented Integrated Rehabilitation Program for Chronic Schizophrenic Patients)

  • 본 연구는 회복지향의 통합재활프로그램이 만성정신분열병 환자의 증상, 인지 사회적 기능, 재활동기, 정신건강회복수준에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 시도되었다. 이 프로그램은 인지분화, 정서관리, 직업재활, 가족교육으로 구성된 4개의 소프로그램과 함께 동기강화프로그램이 포함되어 있다. 연구대상은 지방소재의 일개 국립병원에 입원한 정신신분열증 환자로, 실험군 18명과 대조군 16명으로 구성된 비동등성 대조군 전후시차 설계를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 12.0을 이용하여 통계 분석하였다. 프로그램의 효과를 검증한 결과, 인지 사회적 기능에 별다른 효과를 나타내지 못했으나, 재활동기수준(유지단계에서 p=.027)과 정신건강회복수준(p=.039)에서만 실험군과 대조군에서 유의한 차이를 나타내어 제한적인 효과를 나타내었다. 입원세팅에서 단기간의 회복지향의 통합재활프로그램은 증상감소나 기능향상보다는 재활 동기나 정신건강회복수준을 향상시키는데 보다 효과적으로 활용될 수 있는 가능성이 있는 것으로 보인다. 임상세팅에서 보다 회복지향적인 서비스를 제공하기 위한 노력이 필요하다.

Ethanolic Extract of the Seed of Zizyphus jujuba var. spinosa Ameliorates Cognitive Impairment Induced by Cholinergic Blockade in Mice

  • In the present study, we investigated the effect of ethanolic extract of the seed of Zizyphus jujuba var. spinosa (EEZS) on cholinergic blockade-induced memory impairment in mice. Male ICR mice were treated with EEZS. The behavioral tests were conducted using the passive avoidance, the Y-maze, and the Morris water maze tasks. EEZS (100 or 200 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly ameliorated the scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment in our present behavioral tasks without changes of locomotor activity. The ameliorating effect of EEZS on scopolamine-induced memory impairment was significantly reversed by a sub-effective dose of MK-801 (0.0125 mg/kg, s.c.). In addition, single administration of EEZS in normal naive mouse enhanced latency time in the passive avoidance task. Western blot analysis was employed to confirm the mechanism of memory-ameliorating effect of EEZS. Administration of EEZS (200 mg/kg) increased the level of memory-related signaling molecules, including phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase or cAMP response element-binding protein in the hippocampal region. Also, the time-dependent expression level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor by the administration of EEZS was markedly increased from 3 to 9 h. These results suggest that EEZS has memory-ameliorating effect on scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment, which is mediated by the enhancement of the cholinergic neurotransmitter system, in part, via NMDA receptor signaling, and that EEZS would be useful agent against cognitive dysfunction such as Alzheimer's disease.

Mountain-cultivated ginseng protects against cognitive impairments in aged GPx-1 knockout mice via activation of Nrf2/ChAT/ERK signaling pathway

  • Background: Escalating evidence shows that ginseng possesses an antiaging potential with cognitive enhancing activity. As mountain cultivated ginseng (MCG) is cultivated without agricultural chemicals, MCG has emerged as a popular herb medicine. However, little is known about the MCG-mediated pharmacological mechanism on brain aging. Methods: As we demonstrated that glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is important for enhancing memory function in the animal model of aging, we investigated the role of MCG as a GPx inducer using GPx-1 (a major type of GPx) knockout (KO) mice. We assessed whether MCG modulates redox and cholinergic parameters, and memory function in aged GPx-1 knockout KOmice. Results: Redox burden of aged GPx-1 KO mice was more evident than that of aged wild-type (WT) mice. Alteration of Nrf2 DNA binding activity appeared to be more evident than that of NFκB DNA binding activity in aged GPx-1 KO mice. Alteration in choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity was more evident than that in acetylcholine esterase activity. MCG significantly attenuated reductions in Nrf2 system and ChAT level. MCG significantly enhanced the co-localization of Nrf2-immunoreactivity and ChAT-immunoreactivity in the same cell population. Nrf2 inhibitor brusatol significantly counteracted MCG-mediated up-regulation in ChAT level and ChAT inhibition (by k252a) significantly reduced ERK phosphorylation by MCG, suggesting that MCG might require signal cascade of Nrf2/ChAT/ERK to enhance cognition. Conclusion: GPx-1 depletion might be a prerequisite for cognitive impairment in aged animals. MCG-mediated cognition enhancement might be associated with the activations of Nrf2, ChAT, and ERK signaling cascade.

지역사회 여성노인의 인지기능에 따른 낙상발생빈도, 낙상두려움 및 지각된 건강상태 (A Study on the Frequency of Falls, Fear of Falling, and Perceived Health Status according to Cognitive Function in Community-dwelling Elderly Women)

  • 본 연구는 지역사회에 거주하는 여성 노인을 대상으로 인지기능에 따른 낙상발생빈도, 낙상 두려움, 지각된 건강상태의 차이를 비교하고 관계를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 대상자는 S시 S구 보건소에 방문하는 대상자로 65세 이상 여성 노인으로 선정하였다. 2009년 9월부터 2010년 3월까지 사전에 교육을 받은 간호학과 대학원생 조사원들이 일대일 면접을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구에 참여한 311명의 평균연령은 71.68±5.13세였고, 대상자 평균 인지기능은 22.14±4.32점으로 정상 노인 경우 25.25±1.80점, MCI 노인의 인지기능은 18.02±3.57점으로 나타났다. 지난 1년간 낙상을 경험한 대상자는 109명으로 전체 35%였고 대상자의 평균 낙상 횟수는 1회 이하가 78%에 해당되었다. 일반적 특성에 따른 인지기능 점수 차이를 비교한 결과 나이가 많을수록 인지기능 점수가 유의하게 낮게 나타났고, 배우자가 있는 경우와 교육정도가 높을수록 인지기능의 점수가 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 인지기능 정도에 따른 두 그룹(MCI그룹, 정상 인지그룹)간 낙상횟수 및 낙상두려움, 지각된 건강상태를 분석한 결과 지각된 건강상태에서 유의한 차이를 보여 인지기능이 좋은 그룹에서 스스로 지각하는 건강상태가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 인지기능과 낙상횟수, 낙상두려움 및 지각된 건강상태와의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 낙상 두려움은 인지기능과 유의한 부적 상관관계를 나타내었으며, 지각된 건강상태는 인지기능과 유의한 정적인 상관성을 나타내었다. 즉 인지기능이 떨어질수록 낙상 두려움의 증가와 지각된 건강상태가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 향후 인지기능 정도에 따른 노인 낙상예방 프로그램 개발에 두 가지의 정책적 함의를 제공한다고 할 수 있다. 첫째, 인지기능 상태를 고려하여 낙상 두려움과 지각된 건강상태를 통합적으로 관리할 수 있는 낙상 예방 프로그램 개발이 필요하다. 둘째, 본 연구에서 분석되지 않은 일반적으로 알려진 다른 요인들을 포함하여 병원, 노인 요양시설 등 다양한 곳에 거주하고 있는 남·여 노인을 대상으로 한 지속적인 연구의 필요성을 제시한다. 이 연구를 토대로 인지기능 향상과 낙상예방을 위한 포괄적인 교육을 통해 낙상두려움을 감소시키고 낙상 발생률을 낮추면, 궁극적으로 노인의 삶의 질이 향상될 것이다.

견 피브로인 효소 가수분해물의 동물 인지기능 향상 효과 (Cognitive Ability Enhancement Effects in Rats by B. mori Fibroin Enzymatic Hydrolysate)

  • 견 피브로인 가수분해물의 몇 가지 특성과 in vitro 및 in vivo에 의한 동물 인지 기능 향상효과를 알아본 결과, 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 1) 효소 가수분해 실크 피브로인 펩타이드의 분획에 있어 3가지의 분자량이 다른 분획을 제조할 수 있었다. 2) 분획 별 실크 피브로인 펩타이드의 유리 아미노산 조성은 분획간의 유의차가 나타났으며, 분획 2 및 3의 경우 활성부분을 가진 Cys, Tyr 및 Phe부분이 상당한 양을 차지하였다. 3) 대표적으로 산 및 효소 가수분해물의 핵자기공명(NMR) 법에 의한 구조적 차이는 산으로 가수분해한 저분자와 그렇치 않은 샘풀 간에는 확실한 구조적 차이에 기인한 상이한 스펙트럼을 관측할 수 있었다. 4) 분자량 별 실크 피브로인의 인지기능 향상 효과를 세포배양(in vitro)및 동물투여(in vivo)에 의해 알아본 결과, 세포배양에 의한 활성 효과는 분자량에 따라 다소 차이가 나타났으며, 그 중 분자량 500미만의 샘플군(LF)이 대조인 유발군에 비해 23.5%의 세포보호 효과가 있었다. 또한 동물(in vivo)에 의한 인지기능 향상 효과에 있어서는 보다 확실한 차이가 나타났는데, 그 중 분자량 500-1000정도의 분자량 범위의 분획물질을 10 mg/kg을 투여하였을 경우, 대조군(scopolamine)에 비하여 최고 50%까지 기억회복 효과를 나타내었다.

Distributed Matching Algorithms for Spectrum Access: A Comparative Study and Further Enhancements

  • In this paper, we consider a spectrum access scenario which consists of two groups of users, namely Primary Users (PUs) and Secondary Users (SUs) in Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks (CCRNs). SUs cooperatively relay PUs messages based on Amplify-and-Forward (AF) and Decode-and-Forward (DF) cooperative techniques, in exchange for accessing some of the spectrum for their secondary communications. From the literatures, we found that the Conventional Distributed Algorithm (CDA) and Pragmatic Distributed Algorithm (PDA) aim to maximize the PU sum-rate resulting in a lower sum-rate for the SU. In this contribution, we have investigated a suit of distributed matching algorithms. More specifically, we investigated SU-based CDA (CDA-SU) and SU-based PDA (PDA-SU) that maximize the SU sum-rate. We have also proposed the All User-based PDA (PDA-ALL), for maximizing the sum-rates of both PU and SU groups. A comparative study of CDA, PDA, CDA-SU, PDA-SU and PDA-ALL is conducted, and the strength of each scheme is highlighted. Different schemes may be suitable for different applications. All schemes are investigated under the idealistic scenario involving perfect coding and perfect modulation, as well as under practical scenario involving actual coding and actual modulation. Explicitly, our practical scenario considers the adaptive coded modulation based DF schemes for transmission flexibility and efficiency. More specifically, we have considered the Self-Concatenated Convolutional Code (SECCC), which exhibits low complexity, since it invokes only a single encoder and a single decoder. Furthermore, puncturing has been employed for enhancing the bandwidth efficiency of SECCC. As another enhancement, physical layer security has been applied to our system by introducing a unique Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) based puncturing to our SECCC scheme.
