  • This paper presents various methods for implementing 3-dB coupler using a broadside slot coupled lines and analyze its characteristics. The ideal coupler of the tandem structure is analyzed on the premise that both the reflection coefficient and the isolation coefficient of the first and second coupler connections are zero. However, since the reflection and isolation coefficients of most couplers are not zero, the S-parameter cascade calculation method was used to check how to the characteristics of the coupler change due to this. In order to confirm that these characteristics appear, a 3-dB coupler was fabricated with one stage and two and three stages of a tandem structure using a broadside slot coupled lines at a center frequency of 2 GHz, and it was confirm that the characteristics of tandem coupler change due to the non-zero reflection coefficient and isolation coefficient of the connection part of the coupler.

  • A B-spline based high order panel method was developed for the motion of bodies in an ideal fluid, either of infinite extent or with a free boundarysurface. In this method, both the geometry and the potential are represented by the B-spline, which guarantees more accurate results than most potential based low order methods. In the present work, we applied this B-spline based high order method to the radiation problem of floating bodies. The boundary condition on the free surface was satisfied by adopting a Kelvin-type Green function and irregular frequencies were removed by placing additional control points on the free surface surrounding the body. The numerical results were validated by comparison with existing numerical and experimental results.

  • This paper suggests a monitoring method for the pulsed laser spot welding of the thin metal sheets using a point IR(InfraRed) sensor. A new criterion was introduced and the experimental results guaranteed the efficiency. The ideal radiation feature was derived from the mathematical model and was simulated. The radiation feature is robust to withstand the change of measuring condition and can be used to detect the absorbed laser energy. In an experiment, the radiation feature was examined for the differect laser energy. The pulse width and the laser power was variated and the radiation feature was examined. In the other experiment, the relationship between the weld strength and radiation feature was examined. Artificial Neural Network(ANN) was employed to find out the relationship. The correlation coefficient between the real strength and the estimated strength is high as 0.94 and the mean square error is low as 0.64 kgf learned parts. Another group of the welds was used to appraise the learning efficiency. The correlation coefficient between the measured and the estimated weld strength is high as 0.91.

  • Let (R, m) be a d-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring with infinite residue field. Let I be an ideal of R that has analytic spread ℓ(I) = d, satisfies the Gd condition, the weak Artin-Nagata property AN-d-2 and m is not an associated prime of R/I. In this paper, we show that if j1(I) = λ(I/J) + λ[R/(Jd-1 :RI+(Jd-2 :RI+I):R m)] + 1, then I has almost minimal j-multiplicity, G(I) is Cohen-Macaulay and rJ(I) is at most 2, where J = (x1, , xd) is a general minimal reduction of I and Ji = (x1, , xi). In addition, the last theorem is in the spirit of a result of Sally who has studied the depth of associated graded rings and minimal reductions for m-primary ideals.

  • This numerical analysis uses the lifting surface method and frequency-domain panel method based on the linear compressible aerodynamic theory. Increased knowledge of flow conditions within mixed-flow fan should indicates means of improving performance of these turbomachines. Thus, only an approximate solution is obtained whose prime intent is to recognize the most significant characteristics of the "ideal" geometry. For a given set of operating condition, the flow conditions within mixed-flow fan depend on the geometry of the machine (three-dimensional flow effects) and on the properties of the fluid. But most treatments of the problem have been concerned with the two-dimensional flow effects for incompressible, non-viscous fluids. Interest in the field of mixed-flow fan resulted in the undertaking of a program to develop reliable design procedures that would avoid the need for lengthy development work.

  • Sound absorbing characteristics of poroelastic materials is known to be greatly affected by high intensity acoustic waves. However, this effect has not been considered yet. In this study, the extended semilinear model based on Biot's theory for the porous materials and the characteristics of nonlinear waves in poroelastic sound absorbing materials were introduced. The expressions for the finite-amplitude acoustic plane waves were presented. By combining each nonlinear wave with appropriate matching conditions, we could investigate the effects of finite-amplitude acoustic waves on absorption characteristics of poroelastic materials. In the most ideal case considered in this paper, the absorption coefficient was found to become larger than that of linear incident waves. It was shown that the absorption coefficient became greater especially as frequency goes higher and as distance from the source goes larger. These phenomena may be inferred to result from 'dissipation effects due to nonlinearity'. This finding may have important implications for high intensity noise control.

  • Analytical Expressions of temperature dependent breakdown voltage and on-resistance for silicon power MOSFETs are induced by employing the temperature dependent effective ionization coefficient extracted from temperature dependent ionization coefficients for electron and hole, and electron mobility in silicon. The analytical results for temperature dependent breakdown voltage are compared with experimental results for tile doping concentration, 4x10$^{14}$ cm$^{-3}$ , 1x10$^{15}$ cm$^{-3}$ , 6x10$^{16}$ cm$^{-3}$ respectively. The variations of temperature dependent on-resistance and breakdown voltage dependent ideal specific on-resistance are also compared with the ones reported previously. Good fits with the experimental results ate found for the breakdown voltages within 10% in error for the temperature in the range of 77~300K at each doping concentration.

  • An ideal circuit breaker should supply electric power to loads without losses in a conduction state and completely isolate the load from the power source by providing insulation strength in a break state. Fault current is relatively easy to break in an Alternating Current (AC) circuit breaker because the AC current becomes zero at every half cycle. However, fault current in DC circuit breaker (DCCB) should be reduced by generating a high arc voltage at the breaker contact point. Large fire may occur if the DCCB does not take sufficient arc voltage and allows the continuous flow of the arc fault current with high temperature. A semiconductor circuit breaker with a power electronic device has many advantages. These advantages include quick breaking time, lack of arc generation, and lower noise than mechanical circuit breakers. However, a large load capacity cannot be applied because of large conduction loss. An extinguishing technology of DCCB with polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) device is proposed and evaluated through experiments in this study to take advantage of low conduction loss of mechanical circuit breaker and arcless breaking characteristic of semiconductor devices.

  • As for two dimensional added mass coefficients for straight framed hull forms in a free surface of an ideal fluid, theoretical calculations by F.M. Lewis, vertical, K. Wendel, J.H. Hwang, and etc. are available; vertical modes of rectangular and triangle sections by Lewis, vertical, horizontal and torsional models of rectangular and triangle section by Wendel, and systematical calculations for vertical modes of single chine forms by Hwang. In this paper, employing the conformal transformation by which a unit circle and its exterior region can conformally mapped to a polygon and its exterior region, the author calculated two dimensional added inertia coefficients systematically for straight framed sections with single chine in horizontal and torsional modes of vibrations. As the results, it was found that sloping side angle is an important factor measuring the magnitude of two dimensional added inertia coefficient for a set of given values of the sectional area coefficient and the beam-draft ratio. To grasp it cleary in physical sense, pressure distributions are investigated for some typical section contours. The numerical results are presented graphically in the form of two dimensional added sectional area coefficients with beam-draft ratios and sloping side angles as parameters, so that the data may conveniently utilized for estimation of the added inertia coefficients based on a three parameter technique.
