Thermo-Mechancal Fatigue of the Nickel Base Superalloy IN738LC for Gas Turbine Blades (가스터빈 블레이드용 IN738LC의 열기계피로수명에 관한 연구)

  • A more accurate life prediction for gas turbine blade takes into account the material behavior under the complex thermo-mechanical fatigue(TMF) cycles normally encountered in turbine operation. An experimental program has been carried out to address the thermo-mechanical fatigue life of the IN738LC nickel-base superalloy. In the first phase of the study, out-of-phase and in-phase TMF experiments have been performed on uncoated and coated materials. In the temperature range investigated. the deposition of NiCrAlY air plasma sprayed coating did not affect the fatigue resistance. In the second phase of the study, a physically-base life prediction model that takes into account of the contribution of different damage mechanisms has been applied. This model was able to reflect the temperature and strain rate dependences of isothermal cycling fatigue lives, and the strain-temperature history effect on the thermo-mechanical fatigue lives.

전구체 박막 증착법을 이용한 CuInSe2 박막 합성 및 결정화 메커니즘 분석

  • 태양전지에서 광흡수층으로 널리 쓰이는 CuInSe2은 전기적, 광학적 특성이 우수하고 20%대의 고효율을 기록하며 큰 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 증발법 및 스퍼터링 등의 기존 진공, 고온 기반 공정 기술은 원천적인 공정비용 절감이 어렵고, 고가의 희귀원소인 In 등의 원료 활용도가 떨어져 실험실 수준에 머무르고 있다. 최근 공정 비용을 최소화와 원료 활용을 극대화를 통해 고효율 CIGS 박막형 태양전지를 제조하기 위해 비진공 방식의 전구체 박막 코팅 및 열처리를 통한 광흡수층 제조에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 본 연구는 doctor-blade coating을 이용하여 전구체 박막을 기판 위에 형성하고 열처리 온도에 따른 박막 물성 변화를 관찰함으로써 박막 형성 메커니즘을 밝히는데 주력하였다. 또한 합성된 박막의 전기적, 광학적 특성을 분석하여 태양전지 응용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서는 SEM, XRD, TGA 분석을 통해 Cu, In, Se 전구체들이 각각 binary phase, 즉, Cu2-xSe 및 In2Se3의 metal chalcogenide을 형성하고, 고온에서 서로 결합하여 CuInSe2로 결정화 되는 현상을 관찰하였다. 또한 합성된 CIS 박막은 근적외선 및 가시광 영역에서 높은 광흡수도를 보였으며, 전기적으로 Mo 전극과 ohmic contact을 이룸으로써 CIGS계 태양전지의 광흡수층으로의 적합성을 나타내었다.

A study on the fabrication of porous cermet electrode for molten carbonate fuel cell anode (용융탄산염 연료전지 양극용 다공성 cermet 전극제조에 관한 연구)

  • In order to substitute for porous nickel anode in Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell(MCFC), porous cermet elec-trode was fabricated with Ni and Ni-P coated ceramic powder. Ni and Ni-P were coated by electroless plat-ing method in the nickel solution containing of hydrazine and sodium hypophosphate as a reducing agent. The plating solution was stirred by air and mechanical agitator. Ultrasonic irradiation was applied to the plating bath to improved the effect of agitation and coating speed. Electorde was formed by pressing method and doc-tor blade method followed by sinterd at$ 800^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours in H2 environment. Anode performance test carried out by potentiodynamic polarization technique in the MCFC operating condition and 154-161mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ as ob-tained as a anode current density at the+100mV overpotential.

Preparation of Electrically Conductive Composites Filled with Nickel Powder and MWCNT Fillers (다중벽 탄소나노튜브와 니켈 분말을 포함하는 전도성 복합체 제조)

  • In this study, we prepared electrically conducting composites using epoxy resin of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) as a matrix, triethylenetetramine (TETA) as a hardener and nickel powder or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) grafted with $-NH_2$ groups (MWCNT-$NH_2$) as electrically conducting fillers. Electrical conductivity of composite films were measured by coating on the slide glass with a doctor blade. We measured modification reactions of MWCNT and reaction of MWCNT-$NH_2$ with DGEBA epoxy resin by fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and elemental analyzer (EA). Morphology of composites was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and sheet resistances of composites were measured by 4-point probe. We found $(9.87{\pm}1.09){\times}10^4{\Omega}/sq$ of sheet resistance for epoxy composite containing both 40 wt% nickel powder and 0.5 wt% of MWCNT-$NH_2$ as fillers, equivalent to epoxy composite containing 53.3 wt% nickel powder only as a filler.

  • It is well known that the aluminizing steel is excellent in corrosion resistance and heat resistance. Therefore it has been used as boiler parts, heat exchanger parts and guide rails which are used under comparatively simple conditions. Recently, it has been noticed that aluminizing steel has high resistance to various atmosphere, high temperature oxidation and seawater resistance. So its usage has been extended widely to the production of parts such as intake and exhaust valve of internal combustion engine, turbine blade and pipelines On ships which required such properties. It is considered that aluminium coated steel is excellent in wear resistance because of high hardness on main ingredient FezAIs of Fe-AI alloy layer existed in diffusion coating layer. And it will beused as a new material taking wear resitance with seawater resistance in marine field. However it is difficult to findout any report concering the wear behaviors or properties of alum in izing steel. In this study the experiment was carried out under the condition of rolling-sliding contact using an Amsler-type wear testing machine at 0.80, 0.91, 1. 10, 1. 25% of slip ratio and 55.43, 78.38, 110.85 kg/mm^2 of Hertz's contact stress in run-in period for the purpose of service-ability test of aluminizing steel as a wear resisting material and obtaining the available design data. The followings are the obtained results from the experimen tal study; 1) The 2nd diffusion material has most excellent wear resistance. This material has brought out about 18% decrease of wear weight in a lower friction load level and 40~G decrease in a higher level comparing to the raw material. 2) Satisfactory effect of wear resistivity cannot be much expected in 2nd diffusion specimens. This is considered due to the formation of fine void in the alloy layer near the boundary to the aluminium layer. 3) Fracture on friction surface of aluminizing steel by the rolling-sliding contact is spalling, and spalling crack occurres initially beneath the specimen surface near the boundary in diffusion coating layer.

A Comparative Study on the Applicability of CNT-coated Glass Fiber for Wind Blades (풍력 블레이드를 위한 CNT 코팅 유리섬유의 적용성에 대한 비교 연구)

  • This paper conducted the study on the electromagnetic and mechanical applicability of CNT-coated glass fiber for wind blades. Large-size wind blade has the serious pending problems to meet the target, such as interfering radar signals, increasing weights, and increasing repair costs. In this paper, we are suggesting the CNT-coated glass fiber in order to overcome these problems. First, the CNTs were strongly coated on the surfaces of glass fiber by suggested coating process, and the CNT-coated glass fiber/epoxy composites were fabricated by Va-RTM process. We designed and fabricated a radar absorbing structure using the CNT-coated glass fiber, which showed over 90% radar absorbing performance between 8.3 and 12.1 GHz frequency. In addition, we confirmed the improvement of mechanical properties on the strength and modulus of tensile, compressive, and in-plane shear.

Cracking Near a Hole on a Heat- Resistant Alloy Subjected to Thermo-Mechanical Cycling (열 및 기계적 반복하중 하의 내열금속 표면 홀 주변 산화막의 변형 및 응력해석)

  • In the hot section of a gas turbine, the turbine blades were protected from high temperature by providing a thermal barrier coating (TBC) as well as by cooling air flowing through internal passages within the blades. The cooling air then passed through discrete holes on the blade surface, creating a film of cooling air that further protects the surface from the hot mainstream flow. The holes are subjected to stresses resulting from the lateral growth of thermally grown oxide, the thermal expansion misfit between the constituent layers, and the centrifugal force due to high-speed revolution; these stresses often result in cracking. In this study, the deformation and cracks occurring near a hole on a heat-resistant alloy subjected to thermo-mechanical cycling were investigated. The experiment showed that cracks formed around the hole depending on the applied stress level and the number of cycles. These results could be explained by our analytic solution.
