  • By use of the rotational distribution expression previously derived based on the collisional time correlation function formalism, the rotational distributions of $CO_2$ vibrational ground state (00°0) after collisions with hot H, D, or Cl atom have been constructed. Energy and rotational quantum number parameters which can characterize the rotational distributions are also calculated and compared with those deduced from the experimental distribution. The results from this work would be very useful in predicting the rotational distributions in the lower J region for which experimental data are not available due to the interference from the ambient $CO_2$.

  • In this paper, vibration characteristics in terms of the airfoil cross-sectional shape was examined by using the EDISON co-rotational plane beam-transient analysis. Co-Rotational plane beam analysis is appropriate for large rotation and small strain. Assuming aircraft wing as a cantilevered beam, natural frequencies of each airfoil cross-sectional shape were estimated using VABS program and fast Fourier transformation(FFT). VABS conducts finite element analysis on the cross-section including the detailed geometry and material distribution to estimate the beam sectional properties. Under the same airfoil geometric configuration and material selection, variation of material induced difference in the deflection and natural frequencies. It was observed that variation of the natural frequency was dependent on variation of the airfoil shape and material.

  • This paper presents development of a geometrically nonlinear triangular planar element including rotational degrees of freedom, based on the co-rotational(CR) formulation. The CR formulation is one of the efficient geometrically nonlinear formulations and it is based on the assumptions on small strain and large rotation. In this paper, modified CR formulation is suggested for the developemnt of a triangular planar element. The present development is validated regarding the static and time transient problems. The present results are compared with the results predicted by the previous researchers and those obtained by the existing commercial software.

  • A 3-node 3D co-rotational beam element using vectorial rotational variables is employed to consider the geometric nonlinearity in 3D space. To account for shape versatility and reinforced concrete cross-sections, fibre model has been derived and conducted. Numerical integration over the cross-section is performed, considering both normal and shear stresses. In addition, the derivations associated with material nonlinearity are given in terms of elasto-plastic incremental stress-strain relationship for both steel and concrete. Steel reinforcement is treated as elasto-plastic material with Von Mises yield criterion. Compressive concrete behaviour is described by Modified Kent and Park model, while tensile stiffening effect is taken into account as well. Through several numerical examples, it is shown that the proposed 3D co-rotational beam element with fibre model can be used to simulate steel and reinforced concrete framed structures with satisfactory accuracy and efficiency.

  • In this paper, a springboard for diving is analysed to find out how much force a diver should apply to reach specific height when the diver jumps. The springboard is presumed to Co-rotational plane cantilever beam(CR-beam), so EDISON program related to Co-rotational framework is used. The force of the person is supposed to sine function and the demanded height is fixed. Same velocity makes same height regardless of diver's weight. So, the velocity of springboard when the feet of a diver are separated from the springboard is a main factor of the analysis. The result shows that there is no association between deformation and weight and also between velocity and weight. That is, the required force to reach a optimal height is fixed whatever the diver's weight is.

  • This paper presents development of the nine-node co-rotational(CR) planar element applicable for elastoplastic and contact analysis. The CR formulation is one of the efficient geometrically nonlinear formulations. It is based on the assumptions of small strain and large displacement. Further, it is extended to both elastoplastic analysis and contact analysis in this paper. For accurate plastic analysis, nine-node quadrilateral element, which can provide accurate stress prediction, is chosen. Bi-linear hardening rule based on Newton- Raphson return-mapping is employed. Also, Lagrange multiplier is used in order for constraints regarding the contact analysis. The present development is validated via the time transient problems. The present results are compared with those obtained by the other existing software.

  • In this paper, Euler-Bernoulli beam theories(EB-beam) are used, and Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) analysis is then employed to extract their natural frequencies using both analytical approach and Co-rotational plane beam(CR-beam) EDISON program. EB-beam is used to analyze a spring-mass system with a single degree of freedom. Sinusoidal force with various frequencies and constant magnitude are applied to tip of each beam. After the oscillatory tip response is observed in EB-beam, it decreases and finally converges to the so-called 'steady-state.' The decreasing rate of the tip deflection with respect to time is reduced when the forcing frequency is increased. Although the tip deflection is found to be independent of the excitation frequency, it turns out that time to reach the steady state response is dependent on the forcing frequency.

  • In this paper, a computational algorithm of an improved and versatile structural analysis applicable for large-size flexible nonlinear structures is developed. In more detail, nonlinear finite element based on the co-rotational (CR) framework is developed. Then, a finite element tearing and interconnecting method using local Lagrange multipliers (FETI-local) is combined with the nonlinear CR finite element. The resulting computational algorithm is presented and applied for nonlinear static analyses, i.e., cantilevered beam and multibody structure. Finally, the proposed analysis is evaluated with regard to its parallel computation performance, and it is compared with those obtained by serial computation using the sparse matrix linear solver, PARDISO.

  • A ship's screw-propeller produces thrust by rotation and, at the same time, generates rotational flow behind the propeller. This rotational flow has no contribution to the generation of thrust, but instead produces energy loss. By recovering part of the lost energy in the rotational flow, therefore, it is possible to improve the propulsion efficiency. The contra-rotating propeller (CRP) system is the representing example of such devices. Unfortunately, however, neither a design method nor a full-scale performance prediction procedure for the CRP system has been well established yet. The authors have long performed studies on the CRP system, and some of the results from the authors' studies shall be presented and discussed.

  • In this paper, parametric structural analysis is presented utilizing the co-rotational(CR) shell analysis utilizing EDISON. CR shell analysis shows faster convergence than the commercial software, NASTRAN, does. The 1st natural frequency of the rear frame is obtained, which is close to that of the engine during high speed cruise. Three cases under two design variables are presented and analyzed. Gusset is shown to be more effective among those which feature the same weight change. The results presented in this paper will be applicable for further researches to improve the durability of a motorcycle rear frame.
