Extraction of Common GCPs from JERS-1 SAR Imagery

  • The first step in change detection in any SAR monitoring, including SAR interferometry, is the co-registration of the images. CCPs (Ground Control Points) for co-registration are usually detected manually, but for qualitative analyses of enormous volumes of data, some automation of the process will become necessary. An automated determination of common CCPs for the same path/row data is especially desirable. We selected the intersections of linear features as the candidates of common GCPs Very bright point targets, which are commonly used as GCPs, have the drawback of appearing and disappearing depending on the conditions of the observation. But in the case of linear features, some detailed elements may appear differently in some case, but the overall line-likeness will remain. In this study, we selected 18 common GCPs for a single-look JERS-1 SAR image of Omaezaki area in central Japan. Although the GCPs in the first image had to be selected either interactively or semi-automatically, the same GCPs in all other images were successively detected automatically using a tiny sub-image around each GCP and a dilated mask of each linear feature in the first image as the reference data.

Application of Satellite Image to Evaluate UN-REDD Registration Potential of North Korea : a Case Study of Mt.Geumgang (북한 지역 UN-REDD 등록 타당성 분석을 위한 위성영상 활용 : 금강산을 사례로)

  • Discussion on North Korea as UN-REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in developing countries) project target continues with a view to preventing deforestation and to securing CER(certified emission reduction) for South Korea. However, due to North Korea's political shutdown, it is hard to acquire information required for the REDD project registration. This research intends to acquire objective data using satellite images in the Mt. Geumgang. More than 20% of entire forested area were disappeared during the past two decades mainly due to conversion into agricultural farming land. Further, it is expected that persistent deforestation will go on. The reduction potential of the carbon emission is estimated as approximately 617,000 tCO2/year~663.000 tCO2/year. Thus, Mt. Geumgang is considered as realistic REDD target, which is attractive to South Korea, given that the obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emission is likely to be imposed upon the country. Further, political and social benefits due to reduced military conflict make Mt. Geumgang as UN-REDD project target invaluable.

  • Mobile IP was proposed to overcome identity problem of original IP address system caused by mobility of wireless mobile host. To complete its network handoff procedure, it must receive a mobile advertisement broadcasted by mobile agent. Generally, in a mobile IP system, mean time delay, 500ms, in a network handoff procedure is a critical problem of wireless service such as Voip, multimedia streaming. A caching agent caches a latest mobile advertisement, and replays it by receiving solicitation message from a mobile node finishing link layer detection. But, during the procedure of mobile registration, many packets from service provider to the mobile host would be lost and handoff time delay would be increased. In this thesis, we propose an unproved caching agent technique which can forward data packets while handoff procedure, and CoA pool for fast mobile IP registration.

  • In this paper, we propose a new servo system design strategy to reduce the position error signal(PES) and track mis-registration(TMR) in magnetic disk drive systems. The proposed method provides a systematic design procedure based on the plant model and an optimal solution via an optimization with a 'Robust Random Neighborhood Search(RRNS)' algorithm. In addition, it guarantees the minimum PES level as well as stability to parametric uncertainties. Furthermore, the proposed method can be used to estimate the performance at the design stage and thus can reduce the cost and time for the design of the next generation product. The reduction of PES as well as robust stability is demonstrated by simulation and experiments.

  • As In spite of a close relationship between the land and the building administration, the registration information have been managed separately, because of the different department and the different working area as a national office. To record and manage the exact location of the building within the land we should oblige to submit a status survey results and also register them on the cadastral map. Even now we should make a business cooperation system by building a co-construction of information. The purposes of this study are to suggest ways to improve the legal system for the exact registration of a building on the cadastral map and to look for ways to increase the confidence of building information by reducing the inconvenience of the people through the analysis of a current building administration.

  • This paper presents the greenhouse gas emission trading scheme which is under progress as a pilot project at the power sector in preparation for UNFCCC. By referring UK's, Emission Trading is introduced incentive auction to maximize the reduction of greenhouse gas emission. At the 1st step, from year 2006 to 2008, only CO2 is regarded as an objective target to decrease but emission credit is excluded with an assumption and only 5 Generation company take part in as participants. The market operating procedure is composed of participants' registration, baseline verification, incentive auction, the registration of initial and yearly allocation, emission trading, yearly emission verification & approval, yearly obligation conformity, carry forward & incentive grant. It can be serve a guideline the whole aspects of emission trading which will start in 2006 including operation, verification and profit sharing.

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Using Co-Registration with PET-CT and MRI for Recurrent Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Previous Radiotherapy : A Single Center 14-Year Experience

  • Objective : We retrospectively evaluated the efficacy of Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKS) for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in patients who previously underwent radiotherapy, and analyzed the treatment outcomes over 14 years. Methods : Ten patients with recurrent NPC who had previously received radiotherapy underwent stereotactic radiosurgery using a Gamma Knife® (Elekta Inc, Atlanta, GA, USA) between 2005 and 2018. The median target volume was 8.2 ㎤ (range, 1.7-17.8), and the median radiation dose to the target was 18 Gy (range, 12-30). The median follow-up period was 18 months (range, 6-76 months). Overall and local failure-free survival rates were determined using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results : The NPCs recurred at the primary cancer site in seven patients (70%), as distant brain metastasis in two (20%), and as an extension into brain in one (10%). The recurrent tumors in seven of the 10 patients (70%) were found on the routine follow-up imaging studies. Two patients presented with headache and one with facial pain. Local failure after GKS occurred in five patients (50%) : two of whom died eight and 6 months after GKS, respectively. No adverse radiation effects were noted after GKS. The 1- and 3-year overall survival rates after GKS were 90% and 77%, respectively. The local failure-free survival rates at 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years after GKS were 80%, 48%, and 32%, respectively. The median interval from GKS to local failure was 8 months (range, 6-12). Univariate analysis revealed that using co-registration with positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was associated with a lower local failure rate of recurrent NPC (p=0.027). Conclusion : GKS is an acceptable salvage treatment option for patients with recurrent NPC who previously received radiation therapy. PET-CT and MRI co-registration for dose planning can help achieve local control of recurrent NPC.

Automatic Registration of Point Cloud Data between MMS and UAV using ICP Method (ICP 기법을 이용한 MSS 및 UAV 간 점군 데이터 자동정합)

  • 3D geo-spatial model have been widely used in the field of Civil Engineering, Medical, Computer Graphics, Urban Management and many other. Especially, the demand for high quality 3D spatial information such as precise road map construction has explosively increased, MMS and UAV techniques have been actively used to acquire them more easily and conveniently in surveying and geo-spatial field. However, in order to perform 3D modeling by integrating the two data set from MMS and UAV, its so needed an proper registration method is required to efficiently correct the difference between the raw data acquisition sensor, the point cloud data generation method, and the observation accuracy occurred when the two techniques are applied. In this study, we obtained UAV point colud data in Yeouido area as the study area in order to determine the automatic registration performance between MMS and UAV point cloud data using ICP(Iterative Closet Point) method. MMS observations was then performed in the study area by dividing 4 zones according to the level of overlap ratio and observation noise with based on UAV data. After we manually registered the MMS data to the UAV data, then compared the results which automatic registered using ICP method. In conclusion, the higher the overlap ratio and the lower the noise level, can bring the more accurate results in the automatic registration using ICP method.

Co-registration of PET-CT Brain Images using a Gaussian Weighted Distance Map (가우시안 가중치 거리지도를 이용한 PET-CT 뇌 영상정합)

  • In this paper, we propose a surface-based registration using a gaussian weighted distance map for PET-CT brain image fusion. Our method is composed of three main steps: the extraction of feature points, the generation of gaussian weighted distance map, and the measure of similarities based on weight. First, we segment head using the inverse region growing and remove noise segmented with head using region growing-based labeling in PET and CT images, respectively. And then, we extract the feature points of the head using sharpening filter. Second, a gaussian weighted distance map is generated from the feature points in CT images. Thus it leads feature points to robustly converge on the optimal location in a large geometrical displacement. Third, weight-based cross-correlation searches for the optimal location using a gaussian weighted distance map of CT images corresponding to the feature points extracted from PET images. In our experiment, we generate software phantom dataset for evaluating accuracy and robustness of our method, and use clinical dataset for computation time and visual inspection. The accuracy test is performed by evaluating root-mean-square-error using arbitrary transformed software phantom dataset. The robustness test is evaluated whether weight-based cross-correlation achieves maximum at optimal location in software phantom dataset with a large geometrical displacement and noise. Experimental results showed that our method gives more accuracy and robust convergence than the conventional surface-based registration.
