Enhancing Location Estimation and Reducing Computation using Adaptive Zone Based K-NNSS Algorithm

  • The purpose of this research is to accurately estimate the location of a device using the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of IEEE 802.11 WLAN for location tracking in indoor environments. For the location estimation method, we adopted the calibration model. By applying the Adaptive Zone Based K-NNSS (AZ-NNSS) algorithm, which considers the velocity of devices, this paper presents a 9% improvement of accuracy compared to the existing K-NNSS-based research, with 37% of the K-NNSS computation load. The accuracy is further enhanced by using a Kalman filter; the improvement was about 24%. This research also shows the level of accuracy that can be achieved by replacing a subset of the calibration data with values computed by a numerical equation, and suggests a reasonable number of calibration points. In addition, we use both the mean error distance (MED) and hit ratio to evaluate the accuracy of location estimation, while avoiding a biased comparison.

  • 사람들은 왜 위치 맥락 정보를 공유하는가? 본 연구에서는 LBSNS 사용자간의 장소 공유 경험을 탐색적으로 알아보았다. 본 연구의 목적은 왜 사용자들이 장소 맥락을 공유하는 지 알아보고, 어떤 개념들이 LBSNS상의 공동 경험과 관련이 있는지 밝힌 후에 공동 경험에 대한 탐색적 연구 모형을 제시하는 것이다. 연구 방법으로는 LBSNS 사용자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰와 문헌 탐색을 하였다. 연구 결과로는 첫째, 정성조사의 인터뷰 내용을 근거 이론 방법을 통해 LBSNS 사용자의 경쟁적이고도 협력적인 공동 경험 요인을 도출하였다. 둘째, 정성 조사에서 도출된 개념과 이론적 배경에 근거하여 지각된 공감을 매개로 한 공동 경험에 관한 탐색적 구조 모형을 구축하였다. 본 연구의 이론적 의의는 LBSNS의 공동 경험에 연관된 개념을 도출하였다는 점과 문헌 탐색을 보완하여 이론적 모형을 제안하였다는 점이다. 실용적으로는 서비스 개발 시, 본 연구에서 도출된 협력적이며 경쟁적인 주요 개념을 적용하여 위치 맥락 공유 서비스 설계 시에 공동 경험에 대한 가이드로 유용하게 쓰일 수 있다는 점이다.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the location of the outlets in the mechanical ventilation system installed in apartment. We performed the numerical analysis to estimate the ventilation effectiveness and the indoor $CO_2$ concentration considering the occupants and the condition with inlet and outlet in each room. From the numerical results, modified location of the outlets is about 10% high than designed one with respect to the ventilation effectiveness when the occupants are not considered. But designed location of inlet and outlet in living room and kitchen is better than modified one with respect to the reduction of $CO_2$ concentration in the living room and kitchen with occupants. In case of our model, Air change per hour (0.7) is not enough to sustain the acceptable criteria of $CO_2$ concentration (1000ppm) in the room with the occupants

  • This paper analyses the performance of PE-IPDL technique fer the wireless mobile position location, which have been considered as a major candidate for 3GPP position location due to its capability in mitigating the hearability problem and DOP problem. To improve the location performance of PE-IPDL, this paper introduces the high-resolution estimation technique for the first arrival multipath delay, and simulation results verify its superiority. For a systematic analysis of above location method, its performances are exploited by obeying the CODIT channel model specially bad urban channel environment. Simulation results verify its efficiency of enhancing the degree of accuracy in positioning.

  • Visual servoing is the fusion of results from many elemental areas including high-speed image processing, kinematics, dynamics, control theory, and real-time computing. It has much in common with research into active vision and structure from motion, but is quite different from the often described use of vision in hierarchical task-level robot control systems. We present a new approach to visual feedback control using image-based visual servoing with the stereo vision in this paper. In order to control the position and orientation of a robot with respect to an object, a new technique is proposed using a binocular stereo vision. The stereo vision enables us to calculate an exact image Jacobian not only at around a desired location but also at the other locations. The suggested technique can guide a robot manipulator to the desired location without giving such priori knowledge as the relative distance to the desired location or the model of an object even if the initial positioning error is large. This paper describes a model of stereo vision and how to generate feedback commands. The performance of the proposed visual servoing system is illustrated by the simulation and experimental results and compared with the case of conventional method for dual-arm robot made in Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Navigation and Find Co-location of ATSR Images

  • In this paper, we propose a comprehensive geometric correction algorithm of Along Track Scanning Radiometer(ATSR) images. The procedure consists of two cascaded modules; precorrection and fine co-location. The pre-correction algorithm is based on the navigation model which was derived in mathematical forms. This model was applied for correction raw(un-geolocated) ATSR images. The non-systematic geometric errors are also introduced as the limitation of the geometric correction by this analytical method. A fast and automatic algorithm is also presented in the paper for co-locating nadir and forward views of the ATSR images by using a binary cross-correlation matching technique. It removes small non-systematic errors which cannot be corrected by the analytic method. The proposed algorithm does not require any auxiliary informations, or a priori processing and avoiding the imperfect co-registratio problem observed with multiple channels. Coastlines in images are detected by a ragion segmentation and an automatic thresholding technique. The matching procedure is carried out with binaty coastline images (nadir and forward), and it gives comparable accuracy and faster processing than a patch based matching technique. This technique automatically reduces non-systematic errors between two views to .$\pm$ 1 pixel.

공간정보 기반의 무인비행체 시뮬레이터 지형 구축에 관한 연구 (A Study on Terrain Construction of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Simulator Based on Spatial Information)

  • This paper covers research on terrain construction for unmanned aerial vehicle simulators using spatial information that was distributed by public institutions. Aerial photography, DEM, vector maps and 3D model data were used in order to create a realistic terrain simulator. A data converting method was suggested while researching, so it was generated to automatically arrange and build city models (vWorld provided) and classification methods so that realistic images could be generated by 3D objects. For example: rivers, forests, roads, fields and so on, were arranged by aerial photographs, vector map (land cover map) and terrain construction based on the tile map used by DEM. In order to verify the terrain data of unmanned aircraft simulators produced by the proposed method, the location accuracy was verified by mounting onto Unreal Engine and checked location accuracy.

  • As natural disasters are increasing due to the unusual weather and the modern society is getting complicated, the rapid change of the urban environment has increased human disasters. Thus, citizens are becoming more anxious about social safety. The importance of preparation for safety has been suggested by providing the disaster safety services such as regional safety index, life safety map, and disaster safety portal application. In this paper, we propose an application framework to predict the urban safety index based on user's location with realtime weather/atmosphere data after creating a predication model based on the machine learning using number of occurrence cases and weather/atmosphere history data. Also, we implement an application to provide traffic safety index with executing preprocessing occurrence cases of traffic and weather/atmosphere data. The existing regional safety index, which is displayed on the Si-gun-gu area, has been mainly utilized to establish safety plans for districts vulnerable to national policies on safety. The proposed system has an advantage to service useful information to citizens by providing urban safety index based on location of interests and current position with realtime related data.

  • There are two ways of reducing air pollution. One is the approach of the pollutant source control and the other one is the traffic demand decreasing approach. This study is focusing on the approach of land use planning and optimal location of urban facilities because those are the basic cause to generate transportation demands. So, the purpose of this study would be to analyze the changes of NOx and CO distribution on environmental air by functional hierarchy of urban roads and to make evaluation model of 'Transportation-Land Use -Air Pollution'. It will contribute to improve the air pollution level at same actual traffic generation according to different location.

Application of the Maryblyt Model for the Infection of Fire Blight on Apple Trees at Chungju, Jecheon, and Eumsung during 2015-2020

  • To preventively control fire blight in apple trees and determine policies regarding field monitoring, the Maryblyt ver. 7.1 model (MARYBLYT) was evaluated in the cities of Chungju, Jecheon, and Eumseong in Korea from 2015 to 2020. The number of blossom infection alerts was the highest in 2020 and the lowest in 2017 and 2018. And the common feature of MARYBLYT blossom infection risks during the flowering period was that the time of BIR-High or BIR-Infection alerts was the same regardless of location. The flowering periods of the trees required to operate the model varied according to the year and geographic location. The model predicts the risk of "Infection" during the flowering periods, and recommends the appropriate times to control blossom infection. In 2020, when flower blight was severe, the difference between the expected date of blossom blight symptoms presented by MARYBLYT and the date of actual symptom detection was only 1-3 days, implying that MARYBLYT is highly accurate. As the model was originally developed based on data obtained from the eastern region of the United States, which has a climate similar to that of Korea, this model can be used in Korea. To improve field utilization, however, the entire flowering period of multiple apple varieties needs to be considered when the model is applied. MARYBLYT is believed to be a useful tool for determining when to control and monitor apple cultivation areas that suffer from serious fire blight problems.
