As the number of IoT devices increases, power management of the cluster head, which acts as a gateway between the cluster and sink nodes in the IoT network, becomes crucial. Particularly when the cluster head is a mobile wireless terminal, the power consumption of the IoT network must be minimized over its lifetime. In addition, the delay of information transmission in the IoT network is one of the primary metrics for rapid information collecting in the IoT network. In this paper, we propose a low-power buffer management algorithm that takes into account the information transmission delay in an IoT network. By forwarding or skipping received packets utilizing deep Q learning employed in deep reinforcement learning methods, the suggested method is able to reduce power consumption while decreasing transmission delay level. The proposed approach is demonstrated to reduce power consumption and to improve delay relative to the existing buffer management technique used as a comparison in slotted ALOHA protocol.

The development of lightweight, low energy and small-sized sensors incorporated with the wireless networks has brought about a phenomenal growth of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in its different fields of applications. Moreover, the routing of data is crucial in a wide number of critical applications that includes ecosystem monitoring, military and disaster management. However, the time-delay, energy imbalance and minimized network lifetime are considered as the key problems faced during the process of data transmission. Furthermore, only when the functionality of cluster head selection is available in WSNs, it is possible to improve energy and network lifetime. Besides that, the task of cluster head selection is regarded as an NP-hard optimization problem that can be effectively modelled using hybrid metaheuristic approaches. Due to this reason, an Improved Coyote Optimization Algorithm-based Clustering Technique (ICOACT) is proposed for extending the lifetime for making efficient choices for cluster heads while maintaining a consistent balance between exploitation and exploration. The issue of premature convergence and its tendency of being trapped into the local optima in the Improved Coyote Optimization Algorithm (ICOA) through the selection of center solution is used for replacing the best solution in the search space during the clustering functionality. The simulation results of the proposed ICOACT confirmed its efficiency by increasing the number of alive nodes, the total number of clusters formed with the least amount of end-to-end delay and mean packet loss rate.
PEGASIS, a chain-based protocol, forms chains from sensor nodes so that each node transmits and receives from a neighbor. In this way, only one node (known as a HEAD) is selected from that chain to transmit to the sink. Although PEGASIS is able to balance the workload among all of the nodes by selecting the HEAD node in turn, a considerable amount of energy may be wasted when nodes which are far away from sink node act as the HEAD. In this study, DERP (Distance-based Energy-efficient Routing Protocol) is proposed to address this problem. DERP is a chain-based protocol that improves the greedy-algorithm in PEGASIS by taking into account the distance from the HEAD to the sink node. The main idea of DERP is to adopt a pre-HEAD (P-HD) to distribute the energy load evenly among sensor nodes. In addition, to scale DERP to a large network, it can be extended to a multi-hop clustering protocol by selecting a "relay node" according to the distance between the P-HD and SINK. Analysis and simulation studies of DERP show that it consumes up to 80% less energy, and has less of a transmission delay compared to PEGASIS.
Sensor node clustering is one of the most popular research topics to reduce the energy of sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks. Previous researches, however, did not consider prediction effects of sensed environment information on TDMA scheduling of a cluster, resulting energy inefficiency. In this paper, we suggest an energy efficient cluster-based scheduling scheme that can be applied flexibly to many environment information systems. This scheme reflects the environment information obtained at the application layer to the MAC layer to set up the schedule of a cluster. The application layer information sets up the scheduling referring to the similarity of sensed data of cluster head. It determines the data transmission considering the result of similarity. We show that our scheme is more efficient than LEACH and LEACH-C in energy, which are popular clustering schemes, through simulation.

In this paper, a new cluster configuration process is proposed. The energy consumption of sensor nodes is reduced by configuring the initial setup process only once with keeping the initial cluster. Selecting the highest power consumed node of the member nodes within the cluster to the header of next round can distribute power consumption of all nodes in the cluster evenly. With this proposed way, the lifetime of the USN is increased by the reduced energy consumption of all nodes in the cluster. Also, evenly distributed power consumptions of sensors are designed to improve the energy hole problem. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is confirmed through simulations.
In this paper, we propose the DAMMC(Distributed Authentication Model using Multi-level Cluster) for wireless sensor networks. The proposed model is that one cluster header in m-layer has a role of CA(Certificate Authority) but it just authenticates sensor nodes in lower layer for providing an efficient authentication without authenticating overhead among clusters. In here, the m-layer for authentication can be properly predefined by user in consideration of various network environments. And also, the DAMMC uses certificates based on the threshold cryptography scheme for more reliable configuration of WSN. Experimental results show that the cost of generation and reconfiguration certification are decreased but the security performance are increased compared to the existing method.
Recently, studies have been conducted to cluster vehicles and disseminate safety messages in a VANET environment for driver safety and smoothy traffic. This paper proposes cluster management scheme for safety message dissemination through V2V communication and V2I communication in a VANET environment with high vehicle density and mobility. The proposed scheme reduces packet loss by selecting CH considering reception quality, total data owned by vehicles, moving speed, and connected vehicles, and maintaining cluster head candidates, which are the main agents of message dissemination, considering frequent cluster departures and subscriptions. In addition, the proposed scheme reduces duplicate messages by utilizing clusters by collaborating with a Road side unit(RSU). To prove the excellence of the proposed scheme, various performance evaluations are performed in terms of message packet loss and the number of RSU processing requests. As a result of performance evaluation, the cluster management scheme proposed in this paper shows better performance than the existing scheme.
Head-lice infestation, pediculosis capitis, remains a public-health burden in many countries. The widely used first-line pediculicides and alternative treatments are often too costly for use in poor socio-economic settings. Ivermectin has been considered an alternate treatment for field practice. This study was composed of 2 parts, a cross-sectional survey and an intervention study. The main objectives were to determine the prevalence and potential factors associated with head-lice infestation, and to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of oral ivermectin administration. A community-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among 890 villagers in rural areas along Thai-Myanmar border. Females with infestations were eligible for the intervention study, and 181 participated in the intervention study. A post-treatment survey was conducted to assess acceptance of ivermectin as a treatment choice. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and a generalized-estimation-equation model adjusted for cluster effect. The study revealed the prevalence of head-lice infestation was 50% among females and only 3% among males. Age stratification showed a high prevalence among females aged <20 years, and among 50% of female school-children. The prevalence was persistent among those with a history of infestation. The major risk factors were residing in a setting with other infected cases, and sharing a hair comb. The study also confirmed that ivermectin was safe and effective for field-based practice. It was considered a preferable treatment option. In conclusion, behavior-change communication should be implemented to reduce the observed high prevalence of head-lice infestation. Ivermectin may be an alternative choice for head-lice treatment, especially in remote areas.
This paper proposes a reliable 2-mode authentication framework for probabilistic key pre-distribution in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) that guarantees the safe defense against different kinds of attacks: Hello flood attacks, Wormhole attacks, Sinkhole attack, location deployment attacks, and Man in the middle attack. The mechanism storing the trust neighbor IDs reduces the dependence on the cluster head and as the result; it saves the power energy for the authentication process as well as provides peer-to-peer communication.

In resource constrained sensor networks, usage of efficient routing protocols can have significant impact on energy dissipation. To save energy, we propose an energy efficient routing protocol. In our approach, which integrates clustering and routing in sensor networks, we perform network coding during data routing in order to achieve additional power savings in the cluster head nodes. Efficacy of the proposed method in terms of the throughput and end-to-end delay is demonstrated through simulation results. Significant network lifetime is also achieved as compared with other techniques.
