  • The propose of this study is to develop the optimal sizing system of ready-to-wear far elementary school boys using a newly invented statistical technique. The body measurements was classified by the method that equalizes the distribution of the subjects using the probability density function, to theoretically systemize a method to determine a size range of ready-to-wear for elementary school boys between 7 to 12 yeiws old. The results were as follows: 1. Height group includes 9 types of heights: 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 150 and 155. 2. In the case of short children's groups, the variance in bust girth and waist girth is narrow. The people cluster together around the average. The size deviation of ready-to-wear is small. 3. In the case of tall children's groups, the variance in bust girth and waist girth is wide. The people spread widely around the average. The size deviation of ready-to-wear is large. 4. The optimal size system is suggested considering the weight of growth exponent of children according to their respective ages. Clothing companies can selectively choose sizes that meet the target of their brands. 5. It suggests the body sizes chart, which based on their means by the middle size children for each height group, so that clothing companies make use of it.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of demographics on body-cathexis and clothing expenditure of elderly men and women. Data were obtained from 50 men and 58 men and 58 women aged 55 years and older through an mail survey. Body-cathexis consisted of five areas of body parts: head/upper body, lower body, height, weight, and torso. Clothing expenditure was measured by the total dollar value of annual personal expenditures on personal apparel, including accessories, such as shoes, and clothing services. Demographics included income, age, education, sex, marital status, and social participation. Data were analyzed using multiple regression. The results showed that there were relationships between body-cathexis and four demographic variables(income, sex, education, and social participation). Elderly men were more satisfied with their bodies than were elderly women. The subjects with higher income, education, and social participation had a higher degree of body satisfaction. Also, there was a significant relationship between income and clothing expenditure.

  • Eco-friendly processing using enzymes has been focused in textile industry in order to reduce environmental pollutions. This paper was suggested to hydrolyze non-cellulose, such as fats and waxes in cotton fabrics by lipase treatment. Enzymatic treatment conditions were controlled according to pH, temperature, enzyme concentration, and treatment time. The physical properties of the lipase-treated cotton fabrics were evaluated by measuring weight loss, moisture regain and dyeing properties. The surface morphology of lipase-treated cotton fabrics were observed by SEM. As a result, the optimum conditions for the lipase treatment were at pH 4.2, temperature 50$^{\circ}C$, concentration 50%, and treatment time 90 minutes. Calcium chloride and Triton X-100 were effective auxiliaries in lipase treatment.

  • This study aimed to ex situ colorize laccase-entrapped bacterial cellulose (BC) with natural phenolic dyes, namely, madder, turmeric, and cochineal, and to determine the effect of laccase entrapment on the dyeability of BC using color strength (K/S) analysis. Results showed that laccase entrapment improved the dyeability of BC and that pre-entrapment was the most effective method, compared with meta-entrapment and post-entrapment methods. In addition, surface characterizations confirmed the successful entrapment of laccase inside the BC nanostructure and retention of the cellulosic and crystalline structures of BC. The washing durability test confirmed that the K/S value of BC had improved after laccase entrapment. Furthermore, laccase-entrapped BC colorized with cochineal dye had the highest washing durability due to the high molecular weight of cochineal dyerelative to the other dyes. This study suggests a novel method for enhancing the dyeability and washing durability of BC colorized ex situ with natural phenolic dyes by laccase entrapment.

  • The effect of alkali treatment on the changes in characteristics, mechanical properties, and hand of polyester fabrics was studied. Two kinds of fabrics having different yarn deniers were treated varying weight loss. The results were as follows; 1. Changes in constructional characteristics by alkali treatment were: a decrease in weight & thickness of fabric, a decrease in yarn denier, a decrease in apparent density of fabric, an increase in porosity to air, and a change fiber surface. 2. As for the changes in mechanical properties by alkali treatment, findings were : an increase in WT, RT, MIU, LC, and WC, a decrease in LT, B,2HB, G,2HG,2HGS, MMD, SMD, and RC, ana an increase in drape. 3. Changes in hand by alkali treatment were: a decrease in KOSHI and HARE, an increase in FUUURAMI, SHARI, KISHIMI, and SHENAYAUASA, and an increase in T.H.V 4. In the case of the same weight loss, the hand of 40/24 fabric being composed of thinner yarns was better than the hand of 50/24 fabric. 5. When 50/24 fabric was treated to have the same weight with 40/24 fabric, so the yam deniers of two fabrics were the same, the hand of 50/24 fabric having larger weight loss was better than the hand of 40/24 fabric.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the university students' awareness and attitudes on functional clothing materials, and to explore the effects of subjects' characteristics on the relationship between their attitudes to and images of the functional clothing materials. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to university students and 409 of which were used in data analysis. The data were statistically analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, ANOVA. The results were as follows: students thought that the first and foremost 'function' of functional clothing materials is their light-weight. The functions that consumers practically demanded are water-repellency and high absorbency & quick drying. It showed that students have an image that functional clothing materials have special, good and satisfactory qualities. Goretex and Coolmax were the most selected as brands of functional clothing materials which students knew. Attitudes to functional clothing materials revealed positively in the cognitive, behavioral and affectional attitudes. The attitudes had no significant differences according to sex and their major, but they had significant differences by subjects' amount of allowance, frequency of sports participation and sports ability. In other words, the more amount of allowance they get, the more frequently students do exercise, and the higher sports ability they have, the more positive attitude they have. The study says, in conclusion, that their conception of functional clothing materials has positive relations with their attitudes toward them.

  • In order to understand the influences of wearing clothings with different thermal insula-tions when men were exposed from $25^{\circ}C$ environment to 18$^{\circ}C$ environment, thermoregulatory responses were measured on 4 healthy female college students. Subjects rested wearing T-shirts, trousers, and socks called LC(total weight 541g) at 25$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$5% R.H. and then exposed to the room conditioned in 18$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$5$^{\circ}C$ R.H. with LC as it was(LC Type) or with T-shirts, trousers, socks, training wear upper garment, the training wear lower garment called HC (total weight 1368g)(HC Type) for 120 min. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) When subjects were exposed from $25^{\circ}C$ environment to 18$^{\circ}C$ environment, decrease of rectal temperature was significantly smaller in LC Type than in HC Type. 2)Increase of heat production and weight loss had no significant difference between two types of clothing. 3)Internal thermal conductance was higher in HC Type and external thermal conductance was higher in LC Type. Therefore total thermal conductance was higher in LC Type than in HC Type. 4)Decrease of skin temperature was greater in LC Type than in HC Type. 5)Subjects felt colder with LC Type than with HC Type, but did not feel differently in comfort sensation between two types of clothing. It was suggested that less decrease of rectal temperature in LC type inspite of more dry heat loss from body might be ascribed to a shift of blood from the shell area to the core area originating in the vasoconstriction and the lowered internal thermal conductance. In conclu-sion, the importance of the state of internal heat distribution in the homeostasis seemed to be reaffirmed.
