A Study on the Image Perception and Preferences of the Color of Male′s Jacket, Shirt, and Necktie (남성의 재킷, 와이셔츠, 넥타이 색의 이미지 지각과 선호도 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of the color of jacket. dress shirt, necktie. and perceiver's gender on image perceptions of male, and to examine how clothing color preferences varies according to perceiver's gender and age. The stimuli of 8 pictures of male and the semantic differential scale were used to evaluate image perception. Subjects were 192 males and females in Seoul. The colors of jacket gave significant influences on perception of potency. elegance, preference, and manliness. The colors of dress shirt gave a significant influence on perception of manliness, the necktie's colors gave influences on elegance and visibility. Perceiver's gender did not give significant influences on the image perception. Visibility had an interaction effect by the colors of jacket and dress shirt. Potency and preference evaluation had interaction effects by the colors of jacket. dress shirt. and necktie. White dress shirt had positive effects on the perception of potency and preference in the case of matching with dark blue jacket and red necktie, and blue shirt had a positive effect on the perception of potency and preference in matching with dark blue jacket and blue necktie. The preference of dark grey suit and black shirt showed significant differences according to gender. Dark blue suit, white shirt, and blue shirt had significant differences according to the age group.

Male Consumers' Clothing Consumption Values and Perceived Importance of Store Attributes by Store Type Preferences (남성 소비자의 점포 선호유형에 따른 의복소비가치와 점포속성중요도)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify male consumers and examine their clothing consumption values and the perceived importance of store attributes. Using Internet-based research service, survey data were collected from 651 male consumers aged between 20 and 40. The questionnaire included questions regarding respondents' preference of different store types, clothing consumption values, perceived importance of store attributes. According to the results, the respondents were categorized into 5 distinct groups based on their store type preferences: discount store preference group, multi-channel preference group, store indifferent group, brand store preference group, online store preference group. Multi-channel preference group was the largest among these groups. The five store type preference groups statistically varied in clothing consumption values, i.e., epistemic value, brand/conspicuous value, and economic value. The groups also differed in the importance they placed in the store attributes of: service and product quality, promotion, fashionability, salesperson and store environment, store atmosphere, convenience, and website image. The results of this study have direct implication for retail marketers of fashion companies who are targeting male consumers. Marketers can apply findings of this study in implementing retail strategies for different types of stores.

Clothing behavior and attitudes of Indonesian consumers in their 20s~30s toward Korean fashion brands (20~30대 인도네시아 소비자의 의복행동과 한국 패션브랜드에 대한 태도)

  • The Indonesian population is estimated at 250 million and ranked as the world's fourth-largest. It is also one of the world's largest Muslim nations. Seventy percent of the population of Indonesia is young consumers in their 20s and 30s. In additions, Indonesian consumers have recently developed a great interest in fashion in general and Korean fashion in particular. This paper addresses issues related to young Indonesian consumers' clothing behavior in terms of clothing image, clothing style, body image, clothing and attitudes toward Korean fashion brands. The survey method was used as a primary research instrument. All measurements were adapted from the existing scales from previous studies. A total of 172 questionnaires were used for the final statistical analysis. Empirical results showed that Indonesian consumers' preferences regarding clothing image were new, casual, humorous, futuristic, soft, interesting and active. In terms of style, Indonesian consumers scored high in their preferences of casual and classic styles. With regard to body image, Indonesian consumers have significant concern for their appearance and body, but at the same time they are more satisfied with their body shape. More than half of the respondents had experience in purchasing Korean fashion products. Indonesian consumers recognized the clothing image of Korean fashion brands as new, futuristic, and hi-tech. Furthermore, they perceive the clothing style of Korean fashion brands as casual, feminine, and sexy. Korean fashion brand purchase intension was significantly influenced by recognition and preference of Korean fashion brand.

Fashion Image Preference, Pursued Image and Self-Image Satisfaction of Businessmen According to Personality Types (직장 남성의 성격유형에 따른 의복이미지 선호, 추구이미지와 이미지 만족도)

  • This study is aimed at finding out the self-perception and value of clothing they wear to today's businessmen who work in a fast-growing global network society and for developing a suitable image consulting program for businessmen. The purpose of this study is to categorize businessmen into personality types, and then analyzing purchase behaviors for clothing and image perception, self-image satisfaction among categorized groups. The participants of this study are 320 businessmen who are from 20's to 50's and working in Seoul. A total of 302 questionnaires were used for the survey of this study. The questionnaire is composed of 3 different parts as follows: 1) personality types, 2) purchase behaviors for clothing and image perception, 3) self-image satisfaction. The methods of this study are frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, factor analysis, variance analysis, cluster analysis, t-test and reliability analysis. In conclusion, an image consulting education program for businessmen has to be based on one's own personality type, current fashion style and image perception. Each person has to be provided a unique direction to increase his self satisfaction, which will result in improvements in both personal image satisfaction and social satisfaction. These changes will ultimately become the driving force of career life.

Texture Image and Preference of Men's Wool/Wool blend Suit Fabrics (남성 정장용 양모 직무의 질감 이미지와 선호도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the structural characteristics of men's suit fabrics on the texture image and the preference, and to analyze the relationship between the preference and the practical sales ratio. In addition, the texture images and the preference of fabric and jackets made of the same fabrics were compared. As specimen, jackets for men's suit of 2002' S/S and their fabrics were collected. Questionnaires composed of 22 sensibility related and 21 fabric image related adjectives were developed. For the subjective evaluation of the texture image, both jackets and fabric samples were tested. Tests were performed with 100 female subjects in clothing department and apparel industry. For the objective evaluation, structural characteristics such as fiber contents, yarn twist, fabric count, thickness and weight were analyzed. Total Hand Value were calculated from mechanical properties determined by the KES-FB system. Factor analysis showed sensibilities were classified into 6 categories; "surface roughness", "weight", "density", "stiffness", "elasticity" and "wetness". Fabric images were classified into 4 categories; "classic", "original", "practical", and "stuffy". Depending on the method to show the specimen to the subjects, whether it is suit or fabric, statistically significant differences were observed with a number of adjectives for sensibilities and fabric images. The results of THV of KES did not agree with the preference of subjects, which suggests that we should be careful when using the KES system, which was developed for Japanese people. Price was considered to be another factor besides the texture image that influenced on purchase.

A Study on the Preferences of the Children's Clothing and Color Image. (아동복의 선호이미지와 선호색채 이미지에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was performed to investigate the mothers' preferences for their children's clothing images and color images. Questionaries were analysed by factor analysis cluster analysis one way ANOVA x2 -test. The results are as follow: First the preferred clothing images for children have no differences across gender. The preferred images are active tidy and fashionable. Second the preferred clothing images are according to season. In the case of clothing color images the preferences in spring and summer seasons are differed from fall and winter seasons. Third factors of boy's clothing image were fashionable cute splendid and classic And factors for girl's clothing image were lively tidy fashionable and classic. These factors revealed the differences of preferences between boys and girls clothing image. Fourth the preferences of clothing color image for children changed across seasons. Bright and neat color images were preferred in spring and summer warm and deep color images were preferred in fall and winter. Fifty the preferences of clothing images classified into four groups and each group has the different preference in color tone. Finally Season and gender were revealed to be more important variables in the preferences of children's clothing image and color image.

The Preference on Korean Traditional Motifs and It′s Relationship with Motif Images

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate preference and images of Korean traditional motifs, and to identify the relationship between them. The subjects consisted of 369 male and 356 female undergraduate students. The experimental materials used in this study were 48 stimuli and a questionnaire composed of 7-point semantic differential scales of 26 adjectives. Twelve motifs selected from 3 groups of Korean motifs were used as pattern design stimuli. Twelve repeated patterns were constructed from them to be applied on a CAD-simulated dress. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and regression. The major findings were as follows : 1. Category, composition type, and application object had a significant effect on the preference. Interpretation type has no significant effects on the preference independently, but it had interaction effects when combined with composition type, and category. Especially the composition type had a greater effect than the other variables on the preference. Cloud motif and its abstract and decorative type were found to be more related to the preference than the other category and interpretation type. On the basis of the analysis results, image charts and preference charts were developed. By combining information from the image chart and preference chart, motifs and images preferred by consumers may be selected and developed into new valuable designs. 2. The preference was affected mainly by 'quality'image followed by 'simplicity', 'interest', and 'modernity'image. The preference on pattern design was affected by 'quality', 'simplicity', 'interest', and 'interest', 'simplicity', and 'modernity'image in the order. The relationship between the preference and sensibility images has been represented by equations.

The Influence of Aesthetic Surgery Attitude, Self-Esteem and Body Image on Clothing Behavior (성형태도, 자아존중감, 신체이미지와 의복행동간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of aesthetic surgery attitude, self-esteem and body image on clothing behavior. Subjects were 356 female college students in Seoul. The data obtained were analyzed by reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis and t-test. The major results of this study were as follows: First, five factors of aesthetic surgery attitude were identified: risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, need of aesthetic surgery, image improvement via aesthetic surgery, keeping the secret of aesthetic surgery, and others' expectation of aesthetic surgery. Second, significant relationships were found between body image and clothing behavior, and self-esteem and body-enhancement of clothing. Also, risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, need of aesthetic surgery, and image improvement via aesthetic surgery had a significant correlation with clothing behavior. Third, the most important variable which affected the aesthetics and body-enhancement of clothing was body image. The entertainer imitation behavior of clothing was influenced by need of aesthetic surgery, body image, keeping the secret of aesthetic surgery, risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, and image improvement via aesthetic surgery. Preference for luxury goods of clothing was influenced by need of aesthetic surgery and body image. Body-enhancement of clothing was influenced by body image, image improvement via aesthetic surgery, and self-esteem.

Preference and Wearing Frequency of Knit-Wears Related to Self-Image (자기이미지와 니트웨어 선호도 및 착용빈도 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships between women's self-image and the preference and the wearing frequency of knit-wears, and to examine the characteristics of the design elements that influence the preferred knit-wear images. The subjects were 277 female college students and working women living in metropolitan area of Seoul. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$-reliability coefficient, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Four dimensions of women's self-images were derived by factor analysis; elegance, conservativeness, individuality, and maturity. Women with conservative self-image preferred simple knit-wears and women with high rate for individuality preferred splendid and sporty knit-wears. Women with elegant self-image disliked sporty knit-wears. Women with conservative self-image preferred white, and those who rated their self-image to be individuality preferred various colors including yellow, blue, green, purple, pink, and sky-blue. Women with mature self-image preferred black and beige. Women with individuality as their self-image preferred jacquard pattern and abstract pattern. There was a higher wearing frequency for all four seasons for women with conservative self-image, and there was higher wearing frequency in the winter for those with elegant self-images. Women who preferred simple knit-wears showed preference for single color with no prints and low chroma color, and those who preferred sporty knit-wears showed preference for elastic materials. Women who preferred neat and elegant knit-wears showed preference for argyle check pattern.

Brand Preference and Evaluation Criteria on Phurchase of Underwear among the Age of 20's Female (20대 여성의 내의류 상표 선호도와 구매시 평가기준)

  • This study is to analyze the competition structure and the brand image in underwear market, and to examine the relationships between brand preference and evaluation criteria on purchase among the age of 20's females. The samples are composed of 591 females aged 20's in cheong-ju city. For data analysis, MDS, AVOVA, t-test were used. The results of this study are followed as; Brand group I [BYC·Try·Vicman] was positioned on the dimensions of casual/classic image, brand group II [BodyGuard·DonandDons·schaolphio·x-zon] was positioned on the dimension of casual/fashionable image, and brand group III [Wacor·Venus·Ravora] was posiotioned on the dimension of elegant image. Brand preference in group III was the highest, and brand preference had significant difference by age, occupation, and education level. Customers who prefer the group I evaluated useful and management attributes the most and customers who prefer the group II, considered economical and esthetic arributes for purchasing underwaer. Also, customers who prefer the group III, evaluated the esthetic appreciational quality, the functional quality, and the brand-symbolic quality. Also, the influence of advertisement is most effective to purchase underwears. A main source of information is the broadcast medium such as TV or radio. The main store types on purchase were types like a department store and underwear special store.
