In this study, outsourcing behaviors of shoe manufacturing companies were studied and four types of outsourcing were generated based on qualitative data collected through in-depth interviews with 21 practitioners of shoe manufacturing companies. In results, shoe manufacturers are actively adopting outsourcings in production of raw materials(RM) as well as final products(FP). However, relatively less effect is being made on outsourcing in the field of product planning, international marketing and information technology. Four types of outsourcing include shoe manufacturers focusing on: 1) domestic production of RH and FP, 2) domestic production of RM and international production of FP, 3) domestic/international production of RM and FP, and 4) international production of RH and FP. These types were differed. from their manufacturing items, product planning skills and target markets of shoe manufacturing companies.
The rapid development of digital technology is diversifying the fashion industry by influencing both the manufacturing processes and the characteristics of fashion products. Although various smart clothing technologies are being developed as part of the government's technology development policy, the number of smart clothing products available to consumers in stores remains very limited. To address this issue, this study analyzes the key attributes of smart clothing as expressed in consumer language. The CIT (Critical Incident Technique) research method was used, and data were collected through an online survey. The study focuses on identifying potential factors that may influence the development direction or strategy of smart clothing. By classifying past experiences and attitudes towards smart clothing into positive and negative categories, it was found that positive responses to smart clothing were heavily influenced by expectations from technology and convenience. Participants' experience with smart technology has had a positive impact on their evaluation of smart clothing. Consumers with negative attitudes towards smart clothing expressed expectations for new benefits resulting from technological development, and indicated that they would consider purchasing such clothing in the future when design and technology improve. Ultimately, this study provides a valuable reference for the development of smart clothing products in Korea by analyzing consumer experiences and acceptance conditions towards smart clothing.
The purpose of this study was to examine strategies which clothing manufacturers had employed to make themselves more competitive in the era of fast fashion. The Zimbabwean fashion industry is facing fierce competition from imported fast-fashion products which are lower priced and offer consumers a variety of designs from which to choose. The study made use of a qualitative approach with multiple case study design. In-depth interviews were used to gather data from participants, who were selected using the purposive sampling. The study found that clothing manufacturers had resorted to sub-contracting garment manufacturing work, promoting the buy-Zimbabwe campaign and developing in-house brands. This study offers insights into how the fast-fashion era has impacted the local fashion industry and unveils the practical solutions that local clothing manufacturers have embraced in a bid to remain operational and become globally competitive.
The purpose of this study was to suggest the standard sizing system and grading rules according to body types of elderly women. The data were the anthropometric measurements of 329 women aged 60 and older measured in 2001. To determine the effective and useful clothing sizing system, the distribution of hip girth and bust girth of 3 body types which were suggested in KS K 0055 was analyzed, and the significant difference among adjoining hip girth ranges was analyzed, too. And the sizes of major body parts that were used for manufacturing clothing were made to have regular interval between each clothing sizes. From this study, we certified that each different sizing system for 3 body types to manufacture more suitable clothing for elderly women was necessary and suggested the standard size for each body type. And we also suggested the patternmaking sizes that were needed to manufacture ready-made clothing. On the basis of standard size, we suggested the grading rules for 3 body types. And we verified the propriety of the grading rules for 3 body types through the fitting test, and we knew that the grading rules for 3 body types of this study was very useful to manufacture clothing for elderly women.

This study investigated the practical use of educational subjects and contents of materials in the fashion industry field and analyzed all data from respondents depending on business area and years of work in order to develop appropriate educational methods and courses. The survey was conducted with 151 questionnaires; 148 responses were used in the data analysis. The statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, factor analysis, and ANOVA. The factors of educational subjects for Clothing and Textiles were classified into three categories of product planning, manufacturing and basic information, and manufacturing-related subjects (including materials); subsequently, these showed a high practical use in the fashion business. There were significant differences in the practical use of educational subjects that depended on business areas and years of work for respondents. In the case of education of materials, the contents of fibers, knit fabrics and textile planning were used the most in various business areas; in addition, there were also significant differences in the practical use of knits, textile care, textile planning and trade, and textile retailing depending on business area.
In this study, the effect of innovativeness of external networks on the corporate innovativeness and innovation performance were explored based on web survey data collected from 230 manufacturing companies. Specifically, according to the manufacturers' business categories divided by the technology level, three groups such as advance technology (electronic/IT), mid- to high technology (automobile/machine), and low technology (textile/clothing) companies were investigated to find out which external network influences corporate innovativeness and innovation performance. In the result, textile/clothing companies were not different in company size, history, and innovation effort from advanced technology and mid- to high technology companies. Collectively, the innovativeness of external networks affected corporate innovativeness and innovation performance. In the result by a business category, innovativeness and innovation performance of textile/clothing companies were affected by the innovativeness of competitors, whereas automobile/machine companies in the mid- to high technology group were affected by suppliers. In addition, advanced technology (electronics/IT) were affected by buyers and competitors. These differences suggest that the way to use vertical networks toward upstream (e.g., suppliers) and downstream (e. g., buyers) as well as horizontal networks toward competitors can be different by the business category of manufacturers. The result would provide implications for the academia and the industry.
By studying 3-D virtual human modeling, motion-capturing and clothing simulation for easier and safer work clothes development, this research aimed (1) to categorize heavy manufacturing work motions; (2) to generate a 3-D virtual male model and establish painting work motions within a 3-D virtual clothing simulation system through computerized body scanning and motion-capturing; and finally (3) to suggest simulated clothing images of painting work clothes developed based on virtual male avatar body measurements by implementing the work motions defined in the 3-D virtual clothing simulation system. For this, a male subject's body was 3-D scanned and also directly measured. The procedures to edit a 3-D virtual model required the total body shape to be 3-D scanned into a digital format, which was revised using 3-D Studio MAX and Maya rendering tools. In addition, heavy industry workers' work motions were observed and recorded by video camera at manufacturing sites and analyzed to categorize the painting work motions. This analysis resulted in 4 categories of motions: standing, bending, kneeling and walking. Besides, each work motion category was divided into more detailed motions according to sub-work posture factors: arm angle, arm direction, elbow bending angle, waist bending angle, waist bending direction and knee bending angle. Finally, the implementation of the painting work motions within the 3-D clothing simulation system presented the virtual painting work clothes images simulated in a dynamic mode.

The roles of fashion merchandisers (merchandise managers) in women's apparel industry and their perceptions of the job requirements as a fashion merchandiser were investigated to understand present fashion merchandising activities in the industry and suggest desirable roles of fashion merchandiser for further development of the industry. The research questionnaires were administered to fashion merchandisers working in the ten national brand women's apparel firms. The results of the study were as follows . 1. Annual sales volumes of most surveyed firms were more than five billions won and eight out of ten surveyed firms have fashion merchandisers in their firms. 2. Fashion merchandisers worked at a specific brand merchandising division sales and operations division or merchandise planning division. A fashion merchandiser generally supervised one brand. 3. Fashion merchandiser's work experience ranged from four to fifteen years showing a great deal of experience in the apparel industry. Their majors at university were mostly business and few majored in clothing and textiles, or textiles. 4. In general, the role of fashion merchandiser was a management specialist who was responsible for identifying target markets analyzing fashion trends, planning of the merchandise development budget planning, manufacturing planning, selling, advertising and sales promotion and distributing the merchandise. At some firms fashion merchandi-sers were not responsible for advertising, display, and receiving the orders. 5. Surveyed fashion merchandisers perceived the desirable fashion merchandiser's role as a management specialist conducting overall business activities in the areas of merchandise planning, manufacturing, selling and distribution. They also mentioned the following personal characteristics such as vision leadership, and persuasion as desirable characteri-stics for those who aspire to a career in fashion merchandising. 6. Surveyed fashion merchandisers emphasized relevant and realistic experiences in fashion merchandising education. Several ways were suggested to help the educator keep in touch with business and bring reality to students. They are . field work, bringing professionals into the classroom to speak to the students, emphasizing clothing and textiles education including merchandising area, and establishing a Department of Fashion Merchandising.
As apparel manufacturers have increased their outsourcing garment making to cope with the rapid changing market, the information sharing has been the most important factor for the Korean apparel industry. The purpose of this research was to study the present state and the needs of the information sharing between the apparel manufacturers and the contractors; and the relationship between the product property (basic/fashion product) and the information sharing property. A total of 86 Korean apparel manufacturers were surveyed for the study. The results are: 1) the information sharing level on manufacturing capacity, manufacturing processing condition, and product quality were a bit higher than other surveyed information, but the level on inventories and sales were lower than others. in addition, the information sharing needs by online system of manufacturing capacity, manufacturing processing condition, and product quality were greater than other information; 2) In the case of fashion product, the information sharing needs of product quality by online system were much greater than in the case of basic product. This study is expected to help apparel manufacturers to construct their information sharing system which is apt for their product property and needs.

This study investigated how learning motivation affects satisfaction with training and employment services and its performance for participants in government-supported job skill development program of the clothing industry so as to provide fundamental data for developing a training program that fosters professionals and relieves the labor shortage in the clothing industry. 180 copies of questionnaires were statistically analyzed by SPSSWIN 21.0. Most trainees were low-income citizens in their 40s and 50s. They were divided into highly educated or low-educated. The results of the research are as follows: when the trainees were motivated by the goals of getting a certificate or a job, employment service satisfaction levels were influenced meaningfully. Secondly, educational satisfaction levels and occupational ability development also scored highly. Therefore, it is important to strengthen instructors' competency. Instructors must be required to have onsite experience so that they can provide authentic education that can be applied to the work field. The government should establish a compulsory training session for the trainers along with an incentive program so that they can catch up with up-to-date technology and trend. Third, the research shows that supporting business startup and job placement is important. Follow-up management systems should be provided in cooperation with relevant institutions of employment and business startups. Either outsourcing or placement of professional advisors is also needed.
