  • This paper represents a design method for PID or low-order controllers cascaded with a linear plant in the unit feedback system where it is required to meet the given time response specifications such as overshoot and settling time. This problem is difficult to solve because the zeros of the controller appear in the numerator of the overall system and thus those zeros may make the time response design difficult. In this paper, we propose a new approach based on the partial model matching and the so called K-polynomial. The partial matching problem is formulated to an optimization problem in which a quadratic function of coefficient errors between a target model and the resulting closed loop system is minimized. For the sake of satisfying the closed loop stability, a set of quadratic constraints associated with the cost function is introduced. As a result, the controller designed meets both time response requirements and the closed loop stability, if any. It is shown through several examples that the present method can be easily applied to these problems.

  • This paper suggests a method designing the TSK fuzzy controller based on the TSK fuzzy model, which guarantees the stability of the closed loop system and makes the response of the closed loop system to be a desired one. This paper deals with the general type of TSK fuzzy model of which consequents are affine equations having a constant term. The TSK fuzzy controller suggested in this paper is designed by using the pole placement which developed for the linear systems and makes the closed loop system have the same behavior as a desired linear system. A reference input can be introduced to the suggested TSK fuzzy controller and an integral action also can be introduced. Simulation results reveal that the suggested methods are practically feasible. This paper deals with both the continuous systems and the discrete systems.

  • The number of applications of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in power generation grids has increased in the last decade because of their ability to generate efficient and reliable power in a variety of low installation in domestic applications. Various PV converter topologies have therefore emerged, among which the modular multilevel converter (MMC) is very attractive due to its modularity and transformerless features. The modeling and control of the MMC has become an interesting issue due to the extremely large expansion of PV power plants at the residential scale and due to the power quality requirement of this application. This paper proposes a novel control method of MMC which is used to directly integrate the photovoltaic arrays with the power grid. Traditionally, a closed loop control has been used, although circulating current control and capacitors voltage balancing in each individual leg have remained unsolved problem. In this paper, the integration of model predictive control (MPC) and traditional closed loop control is proposed to control the MMC structure in a PV grid tied mode. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed control model.

  • In this paper, a novel design and implementation of a dual-band directional coupler based on RF IPD(Integrated Passive Device)-on-glass technology is proposed, which can be adopted in GSM/GPRS cellular phones for closed loop power control at the output of the power amplifier. The proposed coupler has a compensation capacitor to improve the directivity, and was designed using a new diplexing structure to minimize the cross-band isolation.

  • We propose an autotuning algorithm for PI controller with unknown plant. The proposed algorithm uses a saturation function and time delay element as a test signal. Since the integral element of PI controller reduces a phase margin in the closed loop system, the closed loop system could be resulted in unstable with PI controller. To avoid unstable in the closed loop system with PI controller, the proposed algorithm identifies one point information in the 3rd quadrant of Nyquist plot with a time delay element. The proposed method improves an accuracy of one point identified information with one saturation function. We demonstrate a performance of the proposed method via a simulation.

  • Long stroke Fast Tool Servo (LFTS) with maximum stroke of $432{\mu}m$ is designed, manufactured and tested for fabrication of optical free-form surfaces. The large amount of stroke in LFTS has been realized by utilizing the hinge and lever mechanisms which enable the displacement amplification ratio of 4.3. In this mechanism the peculiar shape was devised for maximizing the displacement of end tip in LFTS and special mechanical spring has been mounted to provide the sufficient preload to the piezoelectric actuator. Also, its longitudinal motion of tool tip can be measured by capacitive type displacement sensor and closed-loop controlled to overcome the nonlinear hysteresis. In order to verify the static and dynamic characteristics of designed LFTS, several features including step response, frequency response and cut-off frequency in closed-loop mode were experimentally examined. Also, basic machining result shows that the proposed LFTS is capable of generating the optical free-form surface as an additional axis in diamond turning machine.

  • Hydraulic excavators have been popular devices in construction field because of its multi-workings and economic efficiency. The mathematical models of excavators have many nonlinearities because of nonlinear opening characteristics and dead zone of main control valve, oil temperature variation, etc. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulator for hydraulic excavator using AMESim. Components and whole circuit are expressed graphically. Parameters and nonlinear characteristics are inputted in text style. From the simulation results, fixed spring stiffness of MCV can't satisfy accuracy of spool displacement under whole P-Q diagrams. Closed loop type MCV containing proportional gain is proposed in this paper that can reduce displacement error. The ability of closed loop MCV is verified through comparing with normal type MCV using AMESim simulator. The simulator can be used to forecastexcavator behavior when new components, new mechanical attachments, hydraulic circuit changes, and new control algorithm are applied. The simulator could be a kind of development platform for various new excavators.

  • An electrohydraulic (EH) pump-driven closed-loop blood pressure regulatory system was developed based on flow-mediated vascular occlusion using the vascular occlusive cuff technique. It is very useful for investigating blood pressure-dependant physiological variability, in particular, that could identify the principal mediators of renal autoregulation, such as tubuloglomerular feedback (TGF) and myogenic (MYO), during blood pressure regulation. To address this issue, renal perfusion pressure (RPP) should be well regulated under various experimental conditions. In this paper, we designed a new EH pump-driven RPP regulatory system capable of implementing precise and rapid RPP regulation. A closed-loop servo-controlwas developed with an optimal proportional plus integral (PI) compensation using the dynamic feedback RPP signal from animals. An in vivo performance was evaluated in terms of flow-mediated RPP occlusion, maintenance, and release responses. Step change to 80 mmHg reference from normal RPP revealed steady state error of ${\pm}3%$ during the RPP regulatory period after PI action. We obtained rapid RPP release time of approximately 300 ms. It is concluded that the proposed EH RPP regulatory system could be utilized in in vivo performance to study various pressure-flow relationships in diverse fields of physiology, and in particular, in renal autoregulation mechanisms.

  • This paper presents a novel smart MEMS accelerometer which employs a hybrid control algorithm and an estimator. This scheme is realized by adding a sliding-mode controller to a conventional PID closed loop system to achieve higher stability and higher dynamic range and to prevent pull-in phenomena by preventing finger displacement from passing a maximum preset value as well as adding an adaptive nonlinear observer to a conventional PID closed loop system. This estimator is used for online estimation of the parameter variations for MEMS accelerometers and gives the capability of self testing to the system. The analysis of convergence and resolution show that while the proposed control scheme satisfies these criteria it also keeps resolution performance better than what is normally obtained in conventional PID controllers. The performance of the proposed hybrid controller investigated here is validated by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, the initial pole-position estimation of a surface (non-salient) permanent magnet synchronous motor is mathematically analyzed and surveyed on the basis of simulation analysis, and developed for accurate servo motor drive. This algorithm is well carried out under the full closed-loop position control without any pole sensors and is completely insensitive to any motor parameters. This estimation is based on the principle that the initial pole-position is simply calculated by the reverse trigonometric function using the two feedback currents in the full closed-loop position control. The proposed algorithm consists of the predefined reference position profile, the information of feedback currents, speed, and relative position, and the reverse trigonometric function for the initial-pole position estimation. Comparing with the existing researches, the mathematical analysis is introduced to get a more accurate initial pole-position of the surface permanent magnet motor under the closed-loop position control. It is found that the proposed algorithm can be easily applied in servo drive applications because it satisfies the following user's specifications; accuracy and moving distance.
