  • Some sections of the highway are closed due to disasters and accidents. In this situation, it analyzes what kind of situation occurs due to functional failure in the highway network. The domestic highway network can be expressed as a graph. Blocking some sections of the highway can turn into a national disaster. In this paper, we analyze the robustness of the domestic highway network. The robustness of expressways refers to the degree to which the traffic conditions of the domestic expressway network deteriorate due to the blockage of some sections. The greater the robustness, the smaller the effect of some blocking appears. This study is used to evaluate the congestion level of one section of the transportation network, and a value obtained by dividing the section traffic volume (V) by the section traffic volume (C) is used. This study analyzes the robustness of highways by using the actual traffic volume data of the departure and arrival points of domestic highways, and analyzes the changes in traffic volume due to partial blockage through experimental calculations. Although this analysis cannot reflect the exact reality of domestic highways, it is judged to be sufficient for the purpose of confirming the basic robustness of the overall network.

  • Regular maps and hypermaps are cellular decompositions of closed surfaces exhibiting the highest possible number of symmetries. The five Platonic solids present the most familar examples of regular maps. The gret dodecahedron, a 5-valent pentagonal regular map on the surface of genus 5 discovered by Kepler, is probably the first known non-spherical regular map. Modern history of regular maps goes back at least to Klein (1878) who described in [59] a regular map of type (3, 7) on the orientable surface of genus 3. In its early times, the study of regular maps was closely connected with group theory as one can see in Burnside’s famous monograph [19], and more recently in Coxeter’s and Moser’s book [25] (Chapter 8). The present-time interest in regular maps extends to their connection to Dyck\`s triangle groups, Riemann surfaces, algebraic curves, Galois groups and other areas, Many of these links are nicely surveyed in the recent papers of Jones [55] and Jones and Singerman [54]. The presented survey paper is based on the talk given by the author at the conference “Mathematics in the New Millenium”held in Seoul, October 2000. The idea was, on one hand side, to show the relationship of (regular) maps and hypermaps to the above mentioned fields of mathematics. On the other hand, we wanted to stress some ideas and results that are important for understanding of the nature of these interesting mathematical objects.

  • The flexural strength of circular concrete-filled tubes (CCFT) can be estimated by several codes such as ACI, AISC, and Eurocode 4. In AISC and Eurocode, two methods are recommended, which are the strain compatibility method (SCM) and the plastic stress distribution method (PSDM). The SCM of AISC is almost the same as the SCM of the ACI method, while the SCM of Eurocode is similar to the ACI method. Only the assumption of the compressive stress of concrete is different. The PSDM of Eurocode approach is also similar to the PSDM of AISC, but they have different definitions of material strength. The PSDM of AISC is relatively easier to use, because AISC provides closed-form equations for calculating the flexural strength. However, due to the complexity of calculation of circular shapes, it is quite difficult to determine the flexural strength of CCFT following other methods. Furthermore, all these methods give different estimations. In this study, an effort is made to review and compare the codes to identify their differences. The study also develops a computing program for the flexural strength of circular concrete filled tubes under pure bending that is in accordance with the codes. Finally, the developed computing algorithm, which is programmed in MATLAB, is used to generate design aid graphs for various steel grades and a variety of strengths of steel and concrete. These design aid graphs for CCFT beams can be used as a preliminary design tool.

  • In this paper, the performance evaluation on the throughput and the delay between station under the interconnected LANs environments is studied. The connection is formed through bridges. Interconnected system is modelled as single-chain and multiple-chain closed queueing networks. For performance enaluation the iteration algorithm, which is based on the MVA(Mean Value Analysis)is proposed, Various system parameters, such as chain population interconnected communication link capacity, and service times of several queues, are used for the investigation of their influence of the station to station performance, Transport and MAC layers are mainly taken into consideration for the layer modeling. The analysis is shown as a graph by computer programming.

  • The transitive signature scheme is a technique that can be very useful when authenticating edges in a graph that is transitively closed. In other words, when there is an authentication value for an edge (i, j) and an authentication value for an edge (j, k), the authentication value for the edge (i, k) can also be calculated immediately without any separate authentication procedure through a transitive signature. In this paper, we propose the first identity-based transitive signature scheme. Our scheme is based on the lattice problem.

  • This paper proposes a method for vehicle license plate detection using mathematical morphology and symmetry. In general, the shape, color, size, and position of license plate are regulated by authorities for a better recognition by human. Among them, the relatively big intensity difference between the letter and the background region of the license plate and the symmetry about the plate are major discriminating factors for the detection. For the first, the opened image is subtracted from the closed image to intensify the region of plate using the rectangular structuring element which has the width of the distance between two characters. Second the subtraction image is average filtered with the mask size of the plate. Third, the column maximum graph of the average filtered image is acquired and the symmetry of the graph is measured at every position. Fourth, the peaks of the average filtered image are searched. Finally, the plate is assumed to be positioned around the one of local maxima nearest to the point of the highest symmetry. About 1,000 images taken by speed regulation camera are used for the experiment. The experimental result shows that the plate detection rate is about 93%.

  • In this paper, it is aimed to present a detail investigation related to structural behavior of laterally unrestrained steel cantilever roof of tribune with slender cross section. The structure is located in Tutak town in $A{\breve{g}}r{{\i}}$ and collapsed on October 25, 2015 at eastern part of Turkey is considered as a case study. This mild sloped roof structure was built from a variable I beam, and supported on steel columns of 5.5 m height covering totally $240m^2$ closed area in plan. The roof of tribune collapsed completely without any indication during first snowfall after construction at midnight a winter day, fortunately before the opening hours. The meteorological records and observations of local persons are combined together to estimate the intensity of snow load in the region and it is compared with the code specified values. Also, the wide/thickness and height/thickness ratios for flange and web are evaluated according to the design codes. Three dimensional finite element model of the existing steel tribune roof is generated considering project drawings and site investigations using commercially available software ANSYS. The displacements, principal stresses and strains along to the cantilever length and column height are given as contour diagrams and graph format. In addition to site investigation, the numerical and analytical works conducted in this study indicate that the unequivocal reasons of the collapse are overloading action of snow load intensity, some mistakes made in the design of steel cantilever beams, insufficient strength and rigidity of the main structural elements, and construction workmanship errors.

  • This paper describes an implementation of fault simulator that can switch level fault models such as transistor stuck-open and stuck-closed faults as well as stuck-at faults. It overcomes the limitation when only stuck-at faults are used in VLSI circuits. Signal flow of a transistor switch is bidirectional in its nature, but most of signal flows in a switch level circuits, about 95%, are in one direction. This fault simulator focuses on the way which changes a switch level circuit into a graph model with two directed edges. Two paths from Vdd to ground and from ground to directions. Logic simulation is performed along dominant signal flows. The switch level fault simulation estimates the dominant path by injecting switch-level fualts, and pattern vectors are used for faults simulation. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate correctness of the fault simulator.

  • The door-lock switch is one of the most important part in the front-load washer. As an safety system, it keeps the door locked while the front-load washer or the dish washer is working and generating heat and spin. The door of front-load washer needs the emotionality as well as the safety because the consumers always get feels when using it. In this paper, We study about emotional factors in the door of front-load washer and analyze the difference of emotionality as the structure of the door-lock switch changed. For this, we analyze the force graph by using the software and the jig which can measure the force while the door is opened or closed.

  • In this paper, the effect on the lateral and torsional behavior of ballastless railway plate girder bridge by the installation of the lower horizontal bracing has been reviewed. First of all, the most efficient lower bracing arrangement has been reviewed by comparing and examining the lateral displacement due to the train load, targeting analysis models with different arrangement types of lower bracing. Next, the research on torsional behavior of plate girder bridge with lower bracing has been conducted. In addition, the torsion constant from FEM analysis results has been compared with the torsion constant of a railroad plate girder bridge with a closed section by substituting the upper and lower horizontal bracing with equivalent thickness. Based on this comparison, the impact on the bridge span length and the cross section area of the lower bracing has been examined. Through this study, the curve graph related to lateral buckling moment and torsional constant ratio is presented and the range of plate girder bridge requiring torsional reinforcement is proposed.
