Three Mile Island: Medical and Public Health Aspects of a Radiation Accident

  • The March 1979 accident at Three Mile Island provided physicians specializing in radiation medicine an opportunity to observe the field under conditions never seen before. Since no, injuries occurred at the site or within the community, medical personnel were immediately involved in efforts to allay fear, provide accurate information, and replace labortory resources rendered ineffective by the release in the reactor building. Valuable insights concerning medical emergency planning are derived from the accident; suggestions are made for handling any future mishaps.

  • Pharmacogenomics research requires an intelligent integration of large-scale genomic and clinical data with public and private knowledge resources. We developed a web-based knowledge base for KPRN (Korea Pharmacogenomics Research Network, http://kprn.snubi. org/). Four major types of information is integrated; genetic variation, drug information, disease information, and literature annotation. Eighteen Korean pharmacogenomics research groups in collaboration have submitted 859 genotype data sets for 91 disease-related genes. Integrative analysis and visualization of the large collection of data supported by integrated biomedical path­ways and ontology resources are provided with a user-friendly interface and visualization engine empowered by Generic Genome Browser.

  • Many plant species are used in China in tradtional medicine for the prevention and treatment of cancer. This paper presents some of these species with defals on other pharmacologic evaluation and its tradional Chinese meditional uses. The known bioaktivities and some chemical constituents of each of the species given. Information on bioactivities of each species resulting from tests on experimental animals are given. Many of the known chemical constituents of each species are given. Various species of plants elective for various types. In this meeting I will present on some antitumor of the plants which are as follows ; (1) Akebia trifoliata(Thunb.)Koidz. ((2) Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F, H, Chen ., (3)Ziziphus jujuba Mill., (4)coriotus versicolor(Fr.) 지적재산권 보호를 위한 전통의학 DB 구축에 관한 고찰 (Grope for a Summary Program about a Traditional Medical Database for Intellectual Property Protection in WIPO)

  • Objectives : In the WIPO conference about the protection of intellectual property for traditional knowledge (TK) and genetic resources (GR), there was a demand concerning the necessity of recognizing the invention of TK and GR and the foundation of a related database. Methods : In the standard of the foundation of a database, the content and resource identification standards, the technological standards and the security and transmission standards were discussed. In a decision on intellectual property, it means the protection and recognition as a technology precedent of the materials of the database. Results : Massive material on traditional medical care technology in Korea has existed in many areas. However, it is hard to make a database because it is difficult to organize and find the data. In addition, a database demanded by WIPO is not only the material of images or texts of simple technology information, but also the use of patent decisions about traditional knowledge technology and the public sharing of information in related areas. A traditional medical care database would consist of the core of a subject and the related areas. The core part is the medical herb resource and Oriental clinical technology. Conclusions : These are necessary to detail the kind of medicines and prescriptions, their use, and their processing. In the related areas, it needs to detail PIAS and clinical data in regarding the industrialization. These DB have to protect the TK and the GR of Korea.

임상간호사의 재난간호 핵심수행능력 영향요인 (Factors Affecting Disaster Nursing Core Competencies in Clinical Nurses)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 임상간호사의 재난간호 교육요구도와 핵심수행능력 정도를 알아보고 핵심수행능력에 영향을 미치는 요인을 확인하고자 함이다. 연구결과, 재난경험에 따라 교육요구도에 차이가 있었고(p=.036), 연령(p=.013), 부서(p=.007), 재난교육 경험유무(p<.001), 재난대비 인식정도(p<.001)에 따라 핵심수행능력 정도에 차이가 있었다. 또한 재난간호 핵심수행능력 정도에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 재난대비 인식정도(p=.003), 재난교육 경험(p<.001)을 확인하였다. 이에 재난상황에서 신속하게 대응할 수 있는 재난역량을 향상시키는데 기초자료로 활용될 것이며 임상실무 교육프로그램 개발을 모색하는데 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

  • This research evaluated how the composition of Yak-sun(oriental diet therapy), taken as a nutritional supplement with daily meals, can effect the medical condition of those suffering from modern diseases like obesity and hyperlipideia. We produced Yak-sun tea, determined its nutrient composition and physical characteristics and evaluated how this tea effects affects the active oxygen concentration inside the body by clinical practices. The study results indicated that this tea significantly decrease active oxygen concentration. We think that scientific and objective evaluation was done on the components of Yak-sun tea prescription. We concluded that we could apply the components not only in the form of tea, but also in other food forms. The information we received from this conclusion will provide basic information for the application of oriental medicinal resources into other foods and will also be a steppingstone in the field of functional food research for the development of medicinal herbs which is already an important research field world-wide.

의사들의 정보추구행태를 반영한 의학정보시스템 개발 및 평가 (Construction and Feedback of an Information System by Analyzing Physicians' Information-Seeking Behavior)

  • 의사들은 학술연구와 환자진료에 관한 정보요구를 가지고 있고, 전자정보원을 이용하여 해결하고 있으나 정보원의 선택이나 검색에서 어려움을 겪는다. 본 연구는 의사들의 연구와 진료정보요구를 지원할 수 있는 검색시스템을 설계하고 개발하는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위해 의사들의 정보요구에 적합한 정보원 개발을 위해서 정보이용행태에 관하여 심층인터뷰를 하였고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 검색 시스템인 MediSearching을 개발하였다. 개발된 시스템은 효용성 검증과 제안을 얻기 위해 추가 인터뷰와 테스트검색을 통하여 피드백을 받았다. 의사들의 정보이용행태에 관한 인터뷰 결과 소속병원의 종류나 진료 과목에 따라서 차이를 보였다. 대학병원 의사들은 연구와 관련된 정보요구가 컸으며 학술지 논문을 주로 이용하고 있었으나, 전문병원이나 개인병원 의사들은 진료와 관련된 정보요구가 대부분으로 동료와의 대화로 해결하는 형태를 보였다. MediSearching은 연구와 진료정보요구를 동시에 지원할 수 있는 검색시스템으로 개발되었고, 인터페이스와 검색효용성이 검증되었다. 기존의 한국 의학 정보 사이트에서는 제공 정보의 종류나 검색방법에 따라 서비스 범위가 모두 달라 의사들은 동일한 검색 과정을 반복하는 불편함이 있었으나 이를 해결한 것으로 파악되었다. 또한 파일 형태나 언어와 상관없이 정보원의 추가가 가능하도록 한 점에서 유용한 것으로 평가되었다.

고혈압 관리를 위한 헬스레벨 7 FHIR 기반 생체정보 교환 서비스 모델 구현 (Implementation of Service Model to Exchange of Biosignal Information based on HL7 Fast Health Interoperability Resources for the hypertensive management)

  • 고혈압은 전 세계의 심혈관 및 뇌혈관 질환의 중요한 사망 원인으로서 지속적인 혈압관리가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 급성장하고 있는 모바일 헬스케어 환경에서 지속적으로 혈압 관리를 받을 수 있는 생체정보 교환 서비스 모델로서 HL7 FHIR을 선택하였다. 개발한 HL7 FHIR 프레임워크는 매니저(스마트폰)과 에이전트(혈압계) 간에 블루투스 헬스기기 프로파일과 통하여 IEEE 11073-10407 PHD 프로토콜로 통신하여 혈압정보를 획득한다. 테스트 결과 고혈압 환자의 혈압 모니터링, 측정기록관리, 문서 생성, 측정정보전송을 성공적으로 수행하였다. 실제 임상환경에서는 TCP/IP 프로토콜을 통해 측정정보를 전송할 수 있으므로 모바일 헬스케어에서 지속적인 연구와 활성화가 기대된다.

상급종합병원과 희귀난치성질환 전문병원의 희귀의약품 사용현황 (Current View of Orphan Drug Usage in Tertiary Hospital and Rare Incurable Disease Hospital)

  • Objective: Until now, there is minimal number of research for overall domestic status of orphan drug use in Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify the list of orphan drugs available in Korea and to understand the status of orphan drug usage in tertiary Hospitals and rare incurable disease Hospital. Methods: We made domestic orphan drug lists based on available orphan drugs in Korea. Based on this lists, we conducted e-mail survey from August, 2014 to September, 2014 to identify domestic status of orphan drug usage including the availability and management of orphan drugs. Results: There are three hundred and eighteen orphan drugs (184 ingredients) registered in Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Among the three hundred and eighteen orphan drugs, Two hundred and twenty-eight drugs (102 ingredients) were selected. Information on each item was collected and documented with generic and brand names, manufacturers, wholesalers, indications, FDA approval status and insurance coverage. Forty-three tertiary hospitals and thirty-two rare incurable hospitals responded to the survey questionnaire (57.3%). According to the survey result, the antineoplastics and immunomodulating agents group has the highest percentage (40%) usage in the hospital. Of fortythree tertiary hospitals, thirteen hospitals manage orphan drugs separately (30.2%). Based on the reply, most of the healthcare professionals commented the drug information related to efficacy and safety including medication counseling of orphan drugs is insufficient. Conclusion: Through this study we anticipate providing an understanding of orphan drug usage status in Korea. We found the limited resources to the information on orphan drugs and this information requires updating on a regular basis. This can be the basis for further studies about preparing drug information, educational resources for rare disease patients.
